Eun has a birthday and proves that he might be a year older, but he still lacks the sense of an adult. Hae Soo and So’s friendship continues to grow, as does her relationship with Wook. Even the Crown Prince joins the Hae Soo fan club and this new development has Yeon Hwa, very very unhappy.
Top 10 Moments:
- So’s not really the master at speaking about his feelings. Until he’s faced with the possibility of Hae Soo dying (awwww)
Hae Soo’s all smiles as she meets with Lady Oh who questions her about her skills. She’s pleased to inform the woman that she knows all about makeup, but then her face falls when Lady Oh asks her if she can read and write. However, Hae Soo’s all smiles again, when she sees So waiting for her outside Lady Oh’s rooms. She immediately starts chattering about how worried she’s sure So must have been, and just as she makes to thank him, So grabs her bandaged wrist (ow. That’s gotta hurt), and growls that she could have easily died. He wonders if she had to go to such lengths to not marry the king and Hae Soo admits that although she’d first considered going through with the wedding, she realized that she had to take control of the situation and save herself. A clearly affected So then warns her to never do it again, as he won’t forgive her if she repeats it.
2. Soo Kyung plants the seed of So needing to be the last prince standing in So’s head
General Soo Kyung returns to the palace and after paying his respects to Taejo and Ji Mong, goes off to see So next. Turns out that he was the one who took So underneath his wing whilst So was with the Shinjus and so he has a soft spot for So. He also thinks it’s about time So return to Shinju and when So replies that he’s staying in the palace so he can observe his mother and his brothers and find out what’s so important about being king, Soo Kyung points out that there’s only one prince that can exist in the palace: the prince that sits on the throne. He questions So about the exact reason why he wants to live in the palace, and then walks away (seriously General. Why are you putting such thoughts in his head?).
3. Hae Soo wins herself yet another fan, in the person of Crown Prince Moo, although she also catches the attention of Queen Yoo (that is not good)
After leaving Queen Hwangbo’s quarters, Hae Soo hears Moo screaming and checks in on him. She’s surprised to see that he’s suffering from eczema and when Moo attempts to douse himself with cold water, she hurries over to him to stop him. Moo is at first unwilling to listen to her, but Hae Soo points out the instances when his condition gets aggravated, and soothes his skin with warm water. She then mashes some peppermint leaves in water to make a paste and starts applying it to Moo’s skin, with the explanation that it would help cool the irritation. Court Lady Oh walks in at this point however, and angrily pushes Hae Soo away, wondering how she dare touch the Crown Prince. She orders Hae Soo out of the room and Hae Soo walks away, and barely manages to avoid running into Queen Yoo. Queen Yoo though stops when she hears Moo telling Court Lady Oh not to scold Hae Soo because Hae Soo had helped calm down his condition. Queen Yoo takes note of this and immediately changes the direction in which she’d been heading.
4. Hae Soo and So continue to bond (awwww. He’s good for her)
As punishment for attending to the Crown Prince without permission, Court Lady Oh sends Hae Soo to the garden to water the plants. Hae Soo gets to work, tossing the water, every which way as she grumbles about the fact that her talents aren’t appreciated (hahaha). She has no idea that So is in the shrubbery, getting some sleep, and so she douses him by accident (hahahaha). So finally reveals himself and brings up Moo’s illness. He reiterates that Hae Soo mustn’t tell anyone about Moo’s illness, so that she doesn’t get killed for it. Hae Soo points out that with proper management and nutrition, Moo’s illness can be managed. She then grumbles about Lady Oh’s punishment, and even So telling her that she was let off lightly isn’t enough to put her in a good mood. He then suggests that she name the trees as a means of bonding with them, and gives suggestions that has Hae Soo wondering if he’s teasing her (hahahaha). So replies by telling her of a tree he’d named back in Shinju, but which he’d had to burn down when he’d been surrounded by wolves. He tells Hae Soo now, not to think of running but to instead stay faithful to whatever it is she’s decided to do.
5. Even staying in the palace can’t keep Wook away from Hae Soo
Wook stumbles upon Hae Soo practising her writing skills and smiles at the sight. She explains that she’d used the wrong herb because she couldn’t read and had thus been given the writing assignment by Lady Oh. This is news to Wook who then asks how Hae Soo was able to read the poem he’d written her. He’s saddened when Hae Soo tells him that it had been Lady Hae who’d read the poem for her and Wook mutters that he really owes Lady Hae (dude, you have no idea!). Wook then helps Hae Soo with writing the name of the herb she’s been trying to write, and then follows it up by writing his own name on the parchment, explaining to Hae Soo that his name means the morning Sun. Hae Soo smiles to see Wook’s name written down and Wook slips a bracelet onto her wrist, promising to restore her back to her original position even as he gets her to promise him that she won’t take it off.
6. It’s the beginning of a new romance for Baek Ah (awwwww)
Baek Ah spends the afternoon sketching incoming refugees, until his notepad is snatched out of his hand by a woman who calls him out for sketching mocking images of the poor who have been brought down by the drought. She wonders if it’s not enough that they were taken over by Goryeo, and now Baek Ah thinks to make art out of their suffering. Baek Ah tries to explain that the woman’s got it all wrong but she storms off without listening to a word he has to say. The woman is soon met by two men and we learn that she’s Princess Woo Hee. She’s asked to meet the foreign minister and although she calls the minister a traitor, she goes ahead with the men to meet him. Baek Ah meanwhile can’t locate her in the crowd and wonders if she’s a refugee.
7. Yo really needs to work on his romance skills (hahaha)
It’s Eun’s birthday and his brothers host a party for him. Yeon Hwa’s the one that arranged the night’s activities and she smiles when Eun thanks her. She tells him that she’s happy to do it because soon she will be off and married and her brothers are surprised by the news, particularly Yo who looks distinctly unhappy to hear that she’s not marrying into a royal family, but a noble one. After they leave the party, he corners Yeon Hwa and tells her to marry him so she can become the Queen of Goryeo. Yeon Hwa points out that she can’t be Queen seeing that Yo already has a wife, and she asks him if he will be willing to give up his past marriage for her. Yo replies that he has no intention of giving up anything for a girl (and that’s why you won’t be getting said girl), and pulls Yeon Hwa close to kiss her. She tries telling him to stop but he persists, until So calls out and asks if he’s not tired of living like a coward. That gets Yo to back away as he reminds Yeon Hwa that she doesn’t have any other options (as long as it’s not you, I don’t mind). So meanwhile tells Yeon Hwa not to look to Yo for what she wants as Yo won’t give it to her, and Yeon Hwa turns to So to ask him if he wants her to consider him then. The request stuns So into silence (I take that back. As long as it’s not So, then I don’t mind. Yo, take your poison Princess and take her far far away from So).
8. Hae Soo hosts a private party for Eun
Lady Oh lets Hae Soo off (as per the Crown Prince’s command), and Hae Soo hurries to her room to get dressed and to put on make up. She then sets out to setting up the pavilion and brings Eun to the spot where she thanks him for being her first friend in the palace, and the one who comforted her after Lady Hae’s passing. She then proceeds to sing the birthday song for him (awww) and throws in some dance moves as well. So, who watches from across the pond laughs at the sight and Yeon Hwa looks pissed at seeing him laughing at Hae Soo’s antics. Meanwhile, the rest of the princes (excluding Yo), pop out from behind the woodwork and praise Hae Soo on her singing skills. Moo’s quite pleased that he was the one who asked her to put together the event for Eun, and the princes then ask Hae Soo to sing a song for them. Hae Soo sings the song and as all the princes listen to her, she internally tells them not to worry about the throne, but rather, they should stay united as brothers.
9. Eun has an admirer, although he doesn’t like her scary gifts (hahahaha)
Back in the palace, Eun looks through the gifts he received and is scared out of his mind when a bear’s head suddenly pops up beside him (hahahaha). The person beneath the head is General Soo Kyung’s daughter: Soon Deuk, and she passes Eun the fur as her present to him. Eun though isn’t impressed as he scowls that she’s the one who keeps scaring him by sending him fur (hahaha. She’s like a cat leaving the carcass of its prey to impress its owner). He angrily drives her away and Soon Deuk stalks off.
10. Eun’s the most idiotic moronic person ever (seriously. What the fuck?!)
After Soon Deuk leaves, Yo whispers into Eun’s ears, his suggestion of what Eun should ask So for as his birthday present. And so, when So is finally brought into the fold by Baek Ah, and tells Eun that Eun should ask him for anything he wants as his birthday present, and he will make it available to Eun, Eun grins as he blurts out that he wants So to take off his mask so he can see his face (what an insensitive lout). The Crown Prince tries to get Eun to take back his request, but Eun like a spoiled brat, grumbles that he’d been told to make his request. So then reaches for his mask, unties it and pulls it off his face, thus revealing his scar for everyone to see. Everyone’s shocked at the sight and after So catches a glimpse of their reaction, he leaves the room. Hae Soo chases after him to get him to stop and give Eun the chance to apologize. So isn’t having it though as he pins Hae Soo to a pillar and demands that she looks at him. As he takes note of the pity in her eyes, he tells her that that’s the look he hates the most.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
Because this little fucker didn’t think things through before making his request. Seriously, I wish someone had slapped him. What a spoiled brat.
Headache inducing moment:
Poor So. And he was making such big progress in bonding with his brothers. Damn Eun for making the request.
This episode’s a Protect Ya Neck because that’s what Eun would be doing should I ever get my hands on him. His youth and the alcohol are in no way an excuse for him ripping the rug from beneath So’s feet and ruining the little steps that So had taken towards becoming closer to his brothers. And the fact that the Crown Prince had warned Eun about the decision and he’d gone ahead and insisted on seeing what’s beneath the mask proves that he had the chance to pull back and not carry through with the incident but he did it anyway. It’s fucking annoying and I just hope that So realizes that not all his brothers are as evil as Yo and as thoughtless as Eun.
