Seo Woo might find love in a place she’s not looking, but she can be certain that Yoon Do will continue to be his brutally honest self. And honestly, the girl needs the stern talking to. Hye Jung and Ji Hong continue to be sweetly in love. Hye Jung gets a glimpse of Seo Woo’s family life and Ji Hong gets to work trying to mend the bridge between Hye Jung and her father.
The Episode in 10 Moments:
- Hye Jung and Ji Hong are hopelessly in love
Hye Jung runs to wrap her arms around Ji Hong. As she does so, we hear her tell us in voiceover that love is history, written as a joint project by two people. The key is to see how much you can understand and accept the other person’s past. We then cut to the next day at Kookil. Hye Jung is all smiles as she calls Ji Hong just as she’s about to get on the elevator. The call drops and Ji Hong dials his voicemail and we see that back when Hye Jung had called him and he hadn’t picked up his call, she’d accidentally left him a voicemail, telling him that she wants to be his girlfriend. In her panic, she’d ended up saving the message instead of deleting it (hehehe) and Ji Hong laughs to hear it. Hye Jung though is unaware that Ji Hong’s listening to her message as she’s in the OR. She sends off a sleepy Kyung Joon and tells him to go get some rest. Kyung Joon heads to the resident lounge where he runs into a food delivery man (hello Namgoong Min. You’re so Dan Tae in this moment. Speaking of Dan Tae, I really should watch and recap the final two episodes of Beautiful Gong Shim) who’s come to drop food off for the doctors. The man makes to leave but brings up the fact that his seven year old son limps when he walks. He tells the gathered doctors that he’d gone to a clinic but they’d informed him to go to a hospital because the problem might be neurological. Kang Soo replies that he would set an appointment with Ji Hong on the man’s behalf and the food delivery man is extremely grateful. Ji Hong on the other hand has finally arrived at the hospital and has come because Hye Jung had asked him what he was doing when she’d called (awwww. That’s so cute). The two lovebirds then walk hand-in-hand, although they have to keep separating when it seems like they’re about to be seen. Outside the hospital, they listen to a love song from the same jack on Hye Jung’s phone and hold hands some more. Their moment though is ruined by Kang Soo who calls regarding yet another patient that’s wheeled into the ER (Kang Soo. The breaker of all things romance. Hmmph!).
2. When it rains, it pours
The next day, Ji Hong’s back on duty at Kookil and the food delivery guy, comes with both his sons for the meeting with Ji Hong. The limping son’s name is Dal and when Ji Hong has the little boy walk around a bit, he looks very worried. Meanwhile, over at the doctor meeting, Myung Joon’s feeling smug to realize that neurosurgery’s revenue has increased. He attributes the rise to his nagging and when Tae Ho replies that it’s because they hired Ji Hong, Myung Joon spins it around and states that it also had to to do with Soo Jeong’s live stream of her surgery (a surgery that was performed by Ji Hong. Someone needs to give this guy a memo). He however, tells Tae Ho that the credit limit for the department would be increased and they would get their vacation days back. With that done, he goes on to his plans to open a senior center and Tae Ho can barely keep from grimacing at the announcement whilst the other doctors in the room clap and smile. We then cut to Ji Hong’s office where he explains to Dal’s dad that Dal would have to undergo an MRI so they can find out exactly what’s wrong with him. Dal’s father though is worried about the cost, and whilst they’re talking, Dal’s older brother Hae runs out of the room, wanting to pee. He stumbles into Seo Woo and then runs to use the restroom. Seo Woo waits for him outside the restroom, holding out his phone when a laughing Hae comes out. Hae asks if Seo Woo’s a doctor as well and calls her pretty. Seo Woo thanks him, stating that that’s what she needed to hear. She then brings up Hae’s constant smiling and Hae confesses that he laughs at everything, even when he’s sad. He then sees his dad and runs to meet him, but stumbles on the way again. Seo Woo calls a passing Yoon Do over and states that she thinks there’s something wrong with Hae. She asks his father about Hae’s laughing and he confirms that Hae laughs all the time, even in his sleep. Seo Woo tells the father that Hae’s ill and she points out all the symptoms Hae’s been exhibiting: the frequent urination, the tripping and the constant laughter. Yoon Do diagnoses it as gelastic seizures and suggests they run some tests.
3. Bad news for Kookil and Hye Jung & Ji Hong just can’t get some alone time
Myung Hoon’s with some of his lackeys, boasting about the heights to which Kookil will rise when he comes across the news report declaring that Kookil’s at the center of a recruitment scandal caused by the head of the hospital’s administration and head of accounting who are accused of rigging the recruitment process so as to get their children employed in the hospital. Myung Hoon’s stunned to hear the news and pissed when his assistant confirms it. Kang Soo and Joong Dae are blissfully oblivious about what’s going on as Kang Soo has more pressing concerns on his plate: a news anchorwoman who follows his gangster doctor webtoon calls him to ask him to bring Hye Jung up on her show. Kang Soo ends the call but there’s still cause for concern as he’s unsure about what Hye Jung’s reaction would be should she learn the truth. To that effect, he tries tagging along with Hye Jung when she wants to head off to the cafeteria for lunch. Hye Jung though isn’t having it and sends him and Joong Dae off because she’s trying to grab lunch with Ji Hong. The two of them finally signal at each other that they should meet down at the cafeteria. Except, Ji Hong gets there first and In Joo and Pa Ran who sight him insist he sit with them (hahaha. Poor Ji Hong). He grumbles as he sits and when Hye Jung spots him sitting with In Joo and Pa Ran, the two of them have a brief moment of ‘why can’t we just get some alone time’ (awwww. You poor love birds). And then, In Joo and Pa Ran catch sight of Hye Jung and insist that she join them as well. Pa Ran though is smart and states his suspicions that Ji Hong and Hye Jung had planned on eating lunch together. Ji Hong doesn’t bother denying it and introduces Hye Jung as his girlfriend. Hye Jung blushingly confirms it and when Ji Hong starts offering her food, In Joo and Pa Ran take on the side-commentary position as they declare that Hye Jung and In Jong are still in the honeymoon phase but soon enough, they will get tired, become soo obsessive that they would need reassurance and finally get bored and exhausted (pfft. You two are just jealous). They do however congratulate Hye Jung and Ji Hong on their new relationship and promise to keep it a secret on their behalf. Meanwhile, up in Myung Hoon’s office, Sung Jong wonders if the nasty business came to light because of the audit. Myung Hoon dismisses it as being reported by one of the applicant who didn’t get into the hospital. He’s not bothered either as he figures that since the prosecutor in charge of the case is one of their VIP clients, Sung Jong talking to the man should have everything calming down.
4.Yoon Do offers Seo Woo love advice and Kang Soo comes clean to Hye Jung
Whilst Kyung Joon’s being a jerk to Joong Dae (awww. Poor Joong Dae) because he’s decided that soon-to-be-made-wealthy-by-his-webtoon Kang Soo’s his new favorite resident, Yoon Do shows Seo Woo, Hae’s scans and praises her on her being right. She points out that that makes two compliments she’s gotten that day: one from Hae and the other from Yoon Do. Yoon Do wonders why she’s acting so pitiful and Seo Woo asks if pity has anything to do with love (urgh! And just when I was back to not disliking her because of how she acted with Hae). Yoon Do tells her that there is none. He asks if she still has feelings for him and she tosses it right back and asks if he still has feelings for Hye Jung. Seo Woo then brings up the fact that Hae’s brother is Ji Hong’s patient and Yoon Do asks her to call Ji Hong and Hye Jung. Seo Woo looks at him for a moment and declares that she hates him but likes him as well. Yoon Do humors her and asks her why she likes him and she admits that she’d liked him at first because he had more to give her, unlike the other men who dated her because of what they thought to gain from her. Yoon Do then tells her to search her heart to see if what she feels for him is love or relief. Seo Woo doesn’t understand what the difference is between the emotions and Yoon Do explains that with love, a person is willing to go to the very end even if he doesn’t trust the person he’s in love with. Seo Woo calls it recklessness and Yoon Do declares that that’s what love is. Meanwhile, Hye Jung, Ji Hong, In Joo and Pa Ran are outside the cafeteria with the latter two teasing Hye Jung and Ji Hong on their relationship. Seo Woo then calls Hye Jung to tell her about meeting with Yoon Do about their patients and Hye Jung heads towards the hospital. But, before she can go far, Kang Soo comes running to her and tries to get her to promise not to kill him (hehehe). When that doesn’t work, he shows her the webtoon page and then explains about the talk show that wants her to come on for an interview. He tells her that she can get famous but Hye Jung wouldn’t have any of it and tells him to make sure not to give her number or address to the show, should they ask him for it.
5. You just can’t hide the love and life’s hard for a single father
Hye Jung enters the room after the others and Ji Hong’s all smiles as he offers her a seat (hahaha. He soo can’t hide his feelings for her). Yoon Do’s immediately suspicious and Seo Woo confirms that she senses that something’s up. Ji Hong turns the conversation to the patients however, and suggests that they talk to the boys’ guardian. He then turns to Hye Jung to tell her that she should talk to the boys’ father seeing that she’s scrubbing in for the surgery (hahaha. He can’t even hide the stars in his eyes as he looks at her and Hye Jung’s not any better either). The move has Yoon Do and Seo Woo looking even more suspicious, although they don’t say anything. Hye Jung meets with the boys’ father to tell him about Dal’s tumor. She tells him that with surgery and treatment, Dal would be as good as new. When she gives him the go-ahead to ask her any questions he might have, he brings up the medical bill and Hye Jung guesses that he’s worried about how high the bill will be. He admits to being a single father and Hye Jung tells him to have Dal admitted whilst she would ask the Social Contribution Team about assisting the man with the medical bill (awwww. So amazing this girl). The boys’ father meets with Yoon Do next and he shows him the scans which clearly show the tumor pressing against Hae’s hypothalamus. The boys’ father’s depressed that Hae was so sick and he didn’t know, and Seo Woo tells him not to blame himself as most people wouldn’t have known either. He then asks if he can have Hae’s surgery in the next year and just concentrate on Dal’s. Seo Woo though points out that doing so would affect Dae’s own development and will bring with it a slew of respiratory problems. The words further depress the boys’ father and the next thing we see, he’s calling everyone he knows and trying to source for funds for the surgery. But he isn’t able to raise the amount he needs and he watches tearfully as his two sons play with each other.
6. Hye Jung gets roped into hospital politics and there’s a spark between Seo Woo and Young Kook (finally!)
Up in Myung Hoon’s office, he berates Tae Ho for not immediately having an idea of what they can do to salvage Kookil’s image. When the Chief Communications Officer enters the office, Myung Hoon berates the man as well for not having foreseen the situation. Tae Ho interrupts the verb lashing to tell the officer to release a statement informing the country that the two men responsible have been fired and the people who had gotten into Kookil as a result of their duplicitous practice have been let go as well. Myung Hoon though feels that that’s not enough to restore Kookil’s image and the officer brings up the TV show who want to feature Hye Jung because she’s the lead character/inspiration of a popular webtoon. He states that the show called to request to be able to do a segment on Hye Jung: a doctor who’s risen beyond her past to who she is at the moment. Myung Hoon sees the merit in the show and is impressed that it’s Hye Jung: a fellow he’d always suspected he will get along with. When the officer drops the news that Hye Jung had turned down the show, Myung Hoon turns to Tae Ho and demands that he ensures that Hye Jung agrees to do the show. Meanwhile, Seo Woo relaxes with Young Kook who brings up the fact that Hye Jung and Ji Hong are dating (hehehe. Of course those two can’t keep it hidden. It’s written all over their faces). Seo Woo’s not bothered (good. I hope she continues with this zen approach to her life) and Young Kook warns her not to argue with Hye Jung with regards to love and Seo Woo replies that she wouldn’t because she knows she would lose. She tells him that even her dad wants her to be close to Hye Jung and now she thinks Hye Jung’s moving around with a sprinkling of gold dust all around her. Young Kook points out that Hye Jung’s a friendly person who’s pretty flexible too. He offers to show her a video of Hye Jung singing with Tae Ho and when he brings out his phone, the two of them bump head. Young Kook looks utterly smitten like he can’t breathe ,whilst Seo Woo seems more unaffected (girl, you love him, and he loves you. And the best part? He can stand you. Go for him instead of bugging Yoon Do. I’m sure Young Kook’s all willing to treat you like a princess. He’s been doing that to you for a long while anyway). Whilst they’re watching the video and Young Kook declares that Seo Woo’s prettier that Hye Jung, Myung Hoon calls Seo Woo and tells her to invite Hye Jung over for tea.
7. Hye Jung gets a taste of exactly how horrible a parent Myung Hoon is
Min Ho shows up at the hospital, as is his usual practice, with bags of food for the doctors. Kyung Joon who’s at the nurses station receives him and introduces him to Ji Hong who’s also present. Min Ho doesn’t recognize Ji Hong and Ji Hong suggests that they have tea together. Alone in Ji Hong’s office, Min Ho finally recognizes Ji Hong as his mother’s tenant. Ji Hong also admits to having been Hye Jung’s teacher and Min Ho expresses his regret that he never came to see Hye Jung at her school. Ji Hong asks if Min Ho had informed Hye Jung that he would be around and Min Ho deflates some more as he replies that he’s sure Hye Jung wouldn’t want to see him. Ji Hong doesn’t believe that but Min Ho’s proven right when he calls Hye Jung and she rejects his call. The next call that comes in for her is from Myung Hoon’s secretary inviting her to tea. Tea has Hye Jung, Seo Woo and Myung Hoon sitting in Myung Hoon’s office as he brings up the fact that he wants both Seo Woo and Hye Jung to be friends. He throws out a barb about Seo Woo needing to learn to unbend so she can be more like Hye Jung and then brings up the filming of the TV show. Hye Jung replies that she’d turned it down because she didn’t think she was the right person for the show but Myung Hoon tells her that she has to be willing to contribute her own quota towards helping the hospital manage its crisis. Especially because Seo Woo’s not qualified to do so (Damn. Dude, you’re a horrible father). Even Hye Jung’s shocked at the barb and when they’re outside Myung Hoon’s office, Seo Woo tells Hye Jung that that’s what her life’s like: she’s not handed everything she wants on a silver platter. Hye Jung’s noticeably down in the dumps but seeing Ji Hong has her perking up, especially when Ji Hong asks that she take him home. She admits that she’d been feeling down before but now that she’s seen Ji Hong, she’s all better. Ji Hong asks what the problem is and Hye Jung tells him that she’d had tea with Myung Hoon and Seo Woo and realized that things are much worse when you see them from a closer perspective. Ji Hong then asks her if she’s still interested in being a part of his life and Hye Jung’s all smiles as she admits that she is. They then head into Hye Jung’s car and although Ji Hong looks worried a number of times, Hye Jung doesn’t notice. Instead, she drives him and as she does, she tells us that she started the adventure of becoming a part of someone else’s life and her heart’s fluttering.
8. Seo Woo turns to Yoon Do for comfort and In Joo and Pa Ran continue to drive Yoon Do nuts
Whilst Hye Jung is all smiles, Seo Woo’s all tears and that’s how Yoon Do sees her when he gets to his house and notices her waiting for him. She’s tearful as she tells him that no matter how much she fights it, he’s the one that comes to her mind when she’s having a hard time. She then hugs him and asks him why it can’t be her. Yoon Do replies that it’s his fault not hers and Seo Woo points out how perfect they are together, even down to the fact that she’s tall enough for him. He tells her to head home as people would see and when Seo Woo tells him that she doesn’t care, he states that people like the two of them have two choices: Do what their parents want or not do it. But if they choose not to do it, then they must give their parents something else that’s satisfactory as well. He tells Seo Woo that she can’t do that and Seo Woo admits to not being able to do that because nothing she does can ever live up to her parents’ expectations. Yoon Do tells her that the reason why is because expectations are a form of greed that someone sets up to his standard with the hope that someone else will fulfill it. Seo Woo replies that her father was a good person when she was a kid and Yoon Do tells her to head home, stop whining like a little girl and break away from her parents (harsh. But it’s the truth. Girl, you’re thirty). Over at the hospital, Kyung Joon’s’s still being an asshole and Joong Dae finally has enough and storms over to Sooni Hawaii where he asks for something to drink and then proceeds to cry (Awwww. Poor Joong Dae. You should comfort him Soon Hee). Meanwhile, Yoon Do finds In Joo once again making herself comfortable in his apartment (hahaha). She asks him to get her something to drink and then tells him that she heard he likes girls with stories. She warns him not to fall for her because she has a lot of stories and Yoon Do scoffs at the impossibility of it (never say never Yoon Do). Even as he’s still dealing with In Joo, Pa Ran also shows up with the claim that he’s lonely. In Joo agrees that she’s lonely as well and states that she likes Yoon Do’s house (hahaha. This two are going to drive him out of his house). Pa Ran agrees because just the two of them hanging out is pathetic but with Yoon Do in the picture, well things aren’t so bad. Especially because they get to tease him (hahaha). A frustrated Yoon Do declares that he will get himself a girlfriend so he can kick them out but In Joo points out that his personality type is not one given to attracting girls (hehehe). When Yoon Do blusters at the insult, In Joo offers to call him good-looking if he gets her cup ramen (hahahaha. I so love this more playful In Joo. Love her!).
9. Hye Jung & Ji Hong continue to make progress
Hye Jung and Ji Hong get to Ji Hong’s house and after playing a game on the claw machine, Ji Hong admits that he’d gotten the machine so he can spoil himself with the experience he never had as a child. Hye Jung wonders if she should get one for herself as well and Ji Hong tells her that he met her father. He asks if he should stop (Awwww. See how far he’s come. He’s not pushing without asking her first) and Hye Jung tells him to go on. When he admits that he doesn’t know where to start from, Hye Jung blurts out that she doesn’t like her father. She also warns that she will never again see anyone who suggests that she make up with her father. Ji Hong then asks if it’s okay for him to see Min Ho though because he misses Mal Soon’s cooking. Hye Jung looks wistful as she replies that she misses it too. She admits that the reason why she doesn’t cook is because she’s worried that she will be good at it and that it will make her miss Mal Soon which would result in her crying. Ji Hong admits to not knowing what to do in the situation and Hye Jung directs him: wrap his arms around her and pull her into a hug. The next morning is Dal’s surgery and although they run into a minor complication in the OR, things soon stabilize and Ji Hong gets back to work, even as he takes the time to flirt with Hye Jung (hehehe).
10. Hye Jung has a soft spot for Tae Ho and Ji Hong’s trying to enter Hye Jung’s life
Ji Hong steps out of the OR and delivers the very good news to the boys’ father, who thanks him profusely. Hye Jung meanwhile meets with Tae Ho who tells her about Myung Hoon pressuring him to get Hye Jung to agree to go on the show. Now that it’s Tae Ho asking, Hye Jung immediately agrees. Tae Ho’s surprised that she made it so easy and Hye Jung smiles as she tells him she’s only easy for him. With both of them now free, Ji Hong offers to cook for Hye Jung. They then go grocery shopping and when they get home, Ji Hong serves Hye Jung soup. She tastes it and is surprised that it tastes just like Mal Soon’s cooking. As she digs into the food, she asks Ji Hong where he’d gotten the soup and it replies that it bought it at Min Ho’s. The words have Hye Jung freezing and she drops her spoon and looks at Ji Hong with betrayed eyes as she tells us that the start of a relationship is getting into each other’s life. It’s also welcoming your other half trying to enter your life. But it’s going to be very difficult to welcome him.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
No one in this episode.
Headache inducing moment:
None in this episode.
This episode’s a White Wine Spritzer. Simple, super light and refreshing. With Seo Woo not being as annoying and Myung Hoon not being a spoilt brat, we get an episode that’s beautifully light and simple. Our OTP continues to make us smile with how cutely they act towards each other. It’s a beaut to watch them fall in love and learn more about each other and it’s a perfect really. Sometimes, you just want an uncomplicated journey to the end point. And even Myung Hoon deciding that he wants the award for the worst father ever isn’t enough to dull the episode for me. Now I know that there will be a ton of drama with Ji Hong’s actions with the soup, plus Hye Jung agreeing to go on the program means her face would be everywhere which means that Chi Hyun will recognize her and come and tattletale to Myung Hoon. But right now, I’m not thinking of that. Rather, I shall continue to bask in the glow of the cute couple.
