There’s more to everyone than meets the eye, although Kyung Ja doesn’t care as long as oppa is pretty (hehehehe). Hyun Ji works her magic and soon Bong Pal’s thawing around our friendly ghost. Myung Chul remains a coward and there’s more to Hye Sung might not be what everyone thinks he is.
The Episode in 10 Moments:
- Ghosts have always troubled Bong Pal and this particular one isn’t going anywhere
Bong Pal leaves the police station and sees a young boy with his mother. The sight takes him back to the past when as a boy he’d seen a black mist push his mother in the path of an incoming vehicle (yikes. That just gave me hollow vibes, courtesy of Bleach). At her funeral, he sees a horrific looking female ghost grinning at him (his mother perhaps?) and things only get worse at school where he becomes the boy who begs the air for mercy (his classmates couldn’t see that he was pleading with the horrific ghost) and therefore, the social outcast. We then return to present day with Hyun Ji doing her flying leap to kiss Bong Pal. Unfortunately for her, Bong Pal sees her coming and pushes her away (hahaha). She begs him to just stand still but Bong Pal’s not having it as he asks her if she’s really hitting on him. Plus, she keeps talking rudely to him even though he’s clearly older. Hyun Ji blushes adorably as she smiles at the compliment, telling him that she’s older because she’s been dead for five years now and Bong Pal’s only a sophomore. Bong Pal’s not interested and tells her to get lost. Except, she doesn’t go anywhere and even opens his house door for him when he grumbles about having forgotten his key. Bong Pal’s not grateful and tells her to leave. Hyun Ji though, doesn’t go anywhere and instead follows him all over the house as he cleans up (hahaha. She’s so adorable with her smiling up at him and being cute. Utterly adorable).
2. Hyun Ji just wants to kiss Bong Pal and Chun Sang and In Rang figure out Bong Pal’s secret
When Bong Pal finally takes a break from cleaning, Hyun Ji compliments him on his cleanliness. He tells her to get out and she pleads with him to just close his eyes and let her do her thing (hahaha. She’s so cute). Bong Pal won’t budge and when she tries to fake the whole, look, there’s something over there, so she can sneak in a kiss, he catches her, having figured out that that’s what she’s planning. He tells her that he can always get someone else for her to kiss, but Hyun Ji insists that it has to be him. He still isn’t interested and even her using aegyo isn’t enough to get him to change his mind. What she gets however is him flashing his ghost talisman at her, which has her disappearing from his house. But she pops right back up once he’s outside and follows him around (she’s like a little puppy. Hahaha. So cute). Meanwhile, Chun Sang and In Rang are the Ghostnet club where In Rang finally finds the video recording of Bong Pal fighting a ghost. In Rang tries to temper Chun Sang’s enthusiasm at them having video proof by pointing out that they can’t really see much. Chun Sang however is obsessed with the fact that Bong Pal can clearly see the ghost. When In Rang points out that they too had seen the ghost, Chun Sang educates him on the silver code that allows humans to see ghosts, but only at the point where they’re terrified. Bong Pal however doesn’t need the silver code and can see the ghosts clearly, which is why they need him to join their club.
3. Bong Pal just can’t get his alone time at the park and he picks up yet another tail
Bong Pal’s moment of silence at the park is interrupted by Hyun Ji who notices that he’s starting at Hye Sung and the brood of girls, flocking around him and the dog he’s walking. Hyun Ji tsks that that’s how a man should look and asks Bong Pal if he’s a squid (hahaha. Not the way to get him to agree to your terms sweetie). She suggests he get a dog but Bong Pal ignores her and she zeroes in on his lunchbox, particularly the rolled omelet which she says she likes a lot. Bong Pal suggests she go get herself one, but she reminds him that as a ghost, she can only eat food prepared by the living and when Bong Pal acts like he’s about to give her the food only to laughingly pop it into his mouth, she scowls at him. But then Chun Sang and In Rang join in (ha! I can just hear Bong Pal wondering why the hell no one just wants to leave him alone. Hehehehehehe. Poor Bong Pal) and make their introductions. Bong Pal’s not impressed, nor does he budge when Chun Sang and In Rang tell him that they’d witnessed his courage the previous night and so want him to join them in fighting the darkness. Instead, he walks away from them, leaving a delighted Hyun Ji behind as she makes to grab the rolled omelet. Except, Chun Sang absently grabs it first and offers half to In Rang, causing Hyun Ji to glare and then blow cold air on Chun Sang (hahahaha. Huffy Hyun Ji is so cute. This girl’s just plain adorable with everything). Bong Pal meanwhile heads to class which is surprisingly full because Hye Sung is the one filling in for the former professor who’s had to leave the school for personal reasons. He does the roll call and Bong Pal takes the moment to be completely smitten with Seo Yeon. It’s this that Hyun Ji sees when she pops up right beside him and smiles as she states that he likes girly girls like Seo Yeon (hahaha. Adorable this girl. She’s utterly adorable). Bong Pal’s so frustrated that he asks her why she wouldn’t leave him alone. Except, he says the words aloud and disrupts the class. He apologizes and Hye Sung continues reading the roll call, whilst Hyun Ji smiles at him even as she whispers that she doesn’t have anything else to do. Meanwhile, Chun Sang and In Rang are over at Ghostnet, wailing about their lack of funds and the horrible comments they get from a persistent commenter. To make it worse, the landlord bangs on their door and tells them to leave in a week and Chun Sang and In Rang decide to tail Bong Pal so they can film him fighting a ghost, gain popularity and wealth and start to welcome girls into their club (spoken like true dorks).
4. Hyun Ji’s a matchmaker and Kyung Ja finds a new bias
At the end of the class, Hye Sung asks who his assistant is. Seo Yeon raises her hand and Hye Sung replies that she wouldn’t be able to handle all the duties on her own and so would need someone to assist her. Hyun Ji, seeing this as an opportunity to get Bong Pal together with his crush takes hold of his hand and lifts it high up (hahahaha). Hye Sung automatically takes that as Bong Pal agreeing to do the job and Seo Yeon comes to introduce herself to Bong Pal. Bong Pal lies that he hasn’t seen her around which has Hyun Ji making a face at his lie (hahaha). Seo Yeon leaves, Bong Pal scowls and Hyun Ji calls out after him that she knows he’s happy (hahahaha. I agree). Seo Yon heads over to Hye Sung who’s busy feeding the dog that had been stuck in the drainage in the last episode and when he gets a call about him having a presentation, he leaves the dog with her after asking her to make sure the dog finishes his meal. Meanwhile, Hyun Ji keeps following Bong Pal who scowls to see Kyung Ja hanging onto the guy she likes and causing the guy to complain about the sudden pain he feels. He doesn’t say anything though and just continues on his way. Hyun Ji greets Kyung Ja and then continues tailing Bong Pal. Kyung Ja on the other hand spots Hye Sung who unfortunately looks extra pretty at the moment. She immediately dumps her old bias and attempts to catch Hye Sung’s taxi, all the while screaming and calling him honey (hahahaha. Poor Hye Sung. The minute she gets her hands on him, she’s not letting go).
5. Hyun Ji just wouldn’t leave Bong Pal in peace and a spirit is killing people at Gampo inn
Hyun Ji spends the entire time Bong Pal’s working out chattering away about him working out in the heat and asking if he’s a real man when he growls at her to get off his back (he means that in the literal sense of the word too). She tells him that she’s as light as a feather and he’s too weak which would explain why he gets beaten by ghosts a lot. She then complains that she’s hungry and begins to jump on his back, demanding for fried chicken. She does it so many that Bong Pal finally loses it. Soon he’s chasing her all over the rooftop whilst she just laughs and tells him to catch her (hehehe. She’s just too cute, this ghost). That night, another ghost, not as cute and way more malevolent visits a man sleeping at an inn. The man screams when he sees the ghost up close and personal. And soon all we hear are cracks and snaps. The next morning, the neighborhood ajummas gossip about the man’s death and the fact that the inn is definitely haunted by the ghost of the girl Eun Sil who’d been beaten to death by a pimp and had died in a closet in the very same inn. Turns out that shortly after her death, people had started dying in the very same room and even the pimp himself had gotten stabbed. Myung Chul who’d been listening in to the conversation gets direction from the ajummas to the inn and meets the inn owner who’s trying and failing to convince her customers to remain at the inn. Myung Chul immediately gets to work, guessing that someone recently died in the inn. The woman’s surprised that he knows because she heard that he’s not that good (trust me woman, if he hadn’t overhead the neighborhood gossip, he would have no idea what to say). He continues that he can sense a woman’s energy, a woman with a grudge whose name is Eun Sil (hahaha. All stolen from the gossip mill. He’s smart). He then tells her to take a couple of steps back and as he tries entering the room with his scimitar, the blade is sent flying and Myung Chul is dragged into the room, causing the inn owner to run away even as Myung Chul screams at her to call a shaman (hahahaha. Poor Myung Chul. It’s still so hilarious though).
6. Something’s creepy about Hye Sung and Bong Pal starts to thaw
Hye Sung takes the new dog with him to his vet clinic and his nurses gossip between themselves about Hye Sung’s propensity for bringing home strays. Safe in his office, he takes off his coat and we see a strange and creepy tattoo on his back, even as he gives the camera a hard look (now that’s creepy). Over on campus, Hyun Ji spends the day following Bong Pal all around, attending his classes with him, bugging him when he attempts to study, asking him for food even though he doesn’t give her anything to eat and bothering him so much on the bus home that Bong Pal takes to listening to music to ignore her. At home, she keeps bugging him to make her a rolled omelet that he snaps and asks her to go back home. She then admits that she doesn’t have any memories of her home and doesn’t even know why she died, which is why she has to steal food at other people’s memorial. She mentions that she sometimes gets bitten by dogs and makes a face, asking if Bong Pal pities her. Bong Pal believes that she’s lying and when Myung Chul knocks on the door, he tells her to scram. Myung Chul senses Hyun Ji’s energy but chucks it off to focus on his belly. Next thing we see, Hyun Ji’s looking hungrily from the outside at the spread Bong Pal lays out for Myung Chul (poor Hyun Ji), whilst Bong Pal tries to find out who had beaten up Myung Chul. Myung Chul doesn’t say and when Bong Pal finally catches sight of Hyun Ji who begs him to make her some sausages, he rises from his seat and decides to make her some, telling Myung Chul when Myung Chul wonders who they’re for, that he’s making them for a persistent stray cat. When Hyun Ji whispers to him to make it a lot of sausages, Bong Pal smiles (awwww. So cute).
7. Hyun Ji sees her chance and almost takes it and Bong Pal’s homeless?
Seo Yeon’s passing by Hye Sung’s veterinary clinic when she sees the dog Hye Sung had rescued and then Hye Sung himself, putting up posters, searching for the dog’s owner. He tells her that the dog’s owner hasn’t been located yet and asks her to keep his vet clinic a secret from the others. Seo Yeon smiles as she agrees. Over at Bong Pal’s, Hyun Ji sneaks into the house whilst everyone is asleep. Myung Chul doesn’t stir and neither does Bong Pal, thus giving Hyun Ji enough time to search his room. She takes note of the framed pictures of his parents and wonders why Bong Pal lives alone. She also finds his textbooks for the Civil Service Exam and his accounts book. Seeing the later has her concluding that Bong Pal is miserly and she figures that that’s the reason why he wouldn’t help her or give a chance. The word chance has her looking at the sleeping Bong Pal and she works up her courage to kiss him. Just as her mouth gets very close, Myung Chul screams the words “don’t do it”, and Hyun Ji halts. Myung Chul goes back to bed, but his screaming had woken up Bong Pal who is immediately suspicious about what Hyun Ji was attempting to do to him. He then proceeds to chase her around the house till she disappears, telling a now awake Myung Chul that it was the stray cat that had stepped on him. The next morning, Myung Chul deals with the aches and pains from the beating he’d received from the ghost and asks Bong Pal what his father had said in his last letter. When Bong Pal replies that he’d tossed the letter away, Myung Chul takes to rummaging through the garbage which is where he’s found by a woman who assumes that he’s there to steal the boxes. Myung Chul explains that he lives in apartment four-zero-two but the woman claims that no one lives there. Myung Chul describes Bong Pal to the woman but the woman explains that she’s been living in the building for ten years and no one lives in the apartment unit. Whilst Myung Chul is having this argument, Bong Pal passes by, wondering where Hyun Ji’s at (awww. She’s growing on you isn’t she?).
8. Chun Sang and In Rang have their suspicions confirmed
On getting to school, Bong Pal runs into Seo Yeon who recognizes him and wishes him luck with his next class, even as she tells him that she would see him in Hye Sung’s class. She walks away and Bong Pal is all smiles. It’s why he’s in a good mood when his pen drops and someone helps him pick it up. His smile drops though when he sees that it’s Hyun Ji who points out that he must be happy to see her (he is. He’s just not going to admit it. Hahaha). They continue with their bickering, unaware that Chun Sang and In Rang are hiding at the back of the class and can see Bong Pal having a conversation with the empty air. Chun Sang’s creeped out and In Rang figures that Bong Pal can also communicate with ghosts (or he’s schizophrenic. There’s always that option). Outside the classroom, Bong Pal receives a call about work and he’s thrilled. He tries to insist that Hyun Ji not follow him and when she tries to wheedle a favor out of her agreeing to stay away, he sighs and walks away. Chun Sang and In Rang who have been tailing him, follow. Over at Bong Pal’s apartment, whilst complaining that Bong Pal doesn’t fix anything, Myung Chul’s horrified when he remembers that he left his scimitar at the haunted inn. He immediately heads there, unaware that that’s where Bong Pal, Hyun Ji, Chun Sang and In Rang are. The last two make sure they take their pills before they head in though.
9. An exorcism caught on camera
The inn owner is surprised to see young looking Bong Pal show up as the exorcist and asks him if he’s sure he can pull it off. Bong Pal gives her a reassuring smile even as he ignores Hyun Ji who blames the treatment he receives from everyone on his dismal wardrobe. The woman grumbles that she hopes he won’t run away like the monk had done the previous day. Unaware that the monk she’s referring to is Myung Chul, Bong Pal tells the woman that she can pay him after the job is done. The woman thanks him in advanced then runs away. Bong Pal heads to the room, whilst Hyun Ji sees something in the distance and makes a detour. Meanwhile, Chun Sang and In Rang set up their live feed as they tell their viewers that they would get the chance to watch an exorcism live. Turns out that what Hyun Ji noticed was a glowing blade. Meanwhile, Bong Pal is yanked into a wardrobe by Eun Sil who seems frightened as she tells him to run away (damn. She’s not the one who’s been killing people then. It must be the pimp). Turns out that it is the pimp as we see through the girl’s memories as he’d beaten her up and shoved her in the wardrobe. A sound outside the wardrobe has Bong Pal jumping out where he sees that the ghost had been strangling Hyun Ji. He immediately begins to fight the ghost and soon they tumble outside where their fight is captured on camera, courtesy of Chun Sang and In Rang. Outside the inn, Myung Chul shows up, changes his mind at the last moment (what a coward) and runs away. Meanwhile, inside the compound, Bong Pal is being beaten and Chun Sang and In Rang’s viewers talk about how good an actor Bong Pal is. Even as Chun Sang is explaining that it’s an actual exorcism and there’s no acting involved, ghost pimp lifts Bong Pal high in the air, frightening Chun Sang and In Rang who have to pop some more pills and close the doors. Hyun Ji who comes out from the room and spots this isn’t scared though as she screams that ghost pimp is going to die (kill him dear. Kill him!!!). The two then double tag him and start to fight back, but ghost pimp is too strong. Until, Hyun Ji notices the flashing stab wound that we see in flashback was where the pimp had been stabbed in a struggle. The man who had killed him had then hidden the knife and it’s the knife that Hyun Ji had caught its glow when they’d first gotten to the inn. Holding onto ghost pimp, she tells Bong Pal to attack the ghost pimp’s side. He does just that and the ghost pimp disintegrates. When Hyun Ji spots Eun Sil, she makes to head towards her but Bong Pal holds her back. Eun Sil then bows to both of them and departs and Bong Pal comments that she must have been wandering the earth because of ghost pimp. Hyun Ji points out that Bong Pal’s been really nice that day (he has hasn’t he? :). Our boy’s coming around).
10. Hyun Ji finally gets that kiss
Up on the rooftop in Bong Pal’s apartment, Bong Pal asks Hyun Ji how she always seems to know the ghosts’ weaknesses. Hyun Ji asks him if he wants her to teach him. When he nods eagerly, Hyun Ji smiles as she tells him that she won’t teach him (hahahaha). Bong Pal then asks her why she’s been following him, wondering if maybe Hyun Ji likes him. She denies liking him (I see your crestfallen expression there Bong Pal. Hehehe), and admits that she doesn’t have any memories. She doesn’t know how she died, where her house is or who her parents are. But then some memories popped back when she and Bong Pal did that… Bong Pal takes the chance to tease her as he asks her what they did exactly (hahahaha). Hyun Ji’s too embarrassed to tell him and Bong Pal keeps teasing her to tell him what it is that they did. Frustrated, she finally tells him not to bother and Bong Pal leans in and kisses her (well would you look at that. Was definitely not expecting that to happen). In the epilogue, we see Myung Chul return to the inn where he finds Chun Sang and In Rang passed out. He thinks they’ve died of a drug overdose until they startle awake and scream upon seeing him. Chun Sang wonders who he is and when In Rang comments that he’s a monk (wait, how do you know Myung Chul, In Rang?), Chun Sang relaxes.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
No one in this episode.
Headache inducing moment:
None in this episode
This episode’s a Paloma. It’s light and fresh and absolutely refreshing and has totally sold me on this beautiful, amazing drama. Hyun Ji is cute and adorable and fierce and full of so much heart that watching Bong Pal thaw around her is another layer that has me so content with this drama. I love it. I love how balanced they are and how they play to each other’s strength. I love that Bong Pal is starting to like Hyun Ji even if he wouldn’t come out and admit it yet. I loved that they started from hating each other, to her meddling in his life, to him cooking for her and to them working together to take down that ghost. And now that we have the kiss part settled, I’m interested in the rest of the mystery. Namely, is Hyun Ji really dead or is she in a coma? What exactly killed Bong Pal’s mother and what is Hye Sung’s true identity? In other words, this drama has me hooked and I want me some more.
