Seo Woo is once again thinking only of herself and when we wonder how she ever became a doctor, we see the role model she has in her father and totally get it. Hye Jung’s relationship with her father is still rocky although her relationship with Ji Hong’s seeing great progress. Yoon Do’s willing to put himself out there, Soo Chul survives (thank heavens!) and Hye Jung takes a small and yet big step in her relationship with Ji Hong.
The Episode in 10 Moments:
- Ji Hong stays calm in the face of the disaster
We open with Ji Hong remembering the friendly banter between Hye Jung and Soo Chul in the hospital. He tells us that what he admires the most in a romantic relationship is the couple’s ability to express childish emotions. Ji Hong had then gone to his office to throw a tantrum and continues that in a romantic relationship, being childish is healthy. Being childish and vulnerable is the best gift a couple can give to each other. We then return to the present and Soo Chul’s accident. Hye Jung runs to him and although Soo Chul recognizes her, he can’t move his hands and legs. He’s also only able to move one finger. Hye Jung fills Ji Hong in on Soo Chul’s condition when Ji Hong arrives and Ji Hong praises her on a job well done and reminds her that she can’t lose it because Soo Chul’s counting on her. They put Soo Chul in a neck brace but Hye Jung notices that it seems like Soo Chul’s having difficulty breathing. When Ji Hong checks him out and they notice he’s bleeding internally, Hye Jung can barely rein in her tears. They rush him to the emergency room where Ji Hong quickly works on getting the blood flooding Soo Chul’s lungs, out. It’s a success and Ji Hong moves to the next point of action: getting CT scans to know the exact damage they’re facing.
2. Soo Chul’s scared and wants Hye Jung to operate
Pa Ran turns out to be the general surgeon working on Soo Chul. But Neurosurgery has to go in first to repair the nerve damage. Pa Ran tells Ji Hong that the bleeding looks minimal but Soo Chul could go into shock should he spend too long in surgery. Pa Ran leaves and Ji Hong asks Hye Jung if she wants to go into the surgery, reminding her it would be distressing should anything go wrong. Hye Jung asks him if she would get stronger should she go into the surgery and Ji Hong states that being weak is not necessarily a bad thing. The words help because Hye Jung decides to sit out the surgery. Except, when she tells Soo Chul of the decision, he tells her that he wants Hye Jung in his surgery. Telling her that he knows she can do whatever she sets out to do, Soo Chul admits that he’s scared, but he’s knows he will stop being scared should Hye Jung be there. She agrees and he smiles. So, when Ji Hong’s scrubbing up for surgery, Hye Jung joins him to inform him that she’ll be joining in. Ji Hong gives a little smile as he states that it’s okay.
3. Chairman Hong’s suspicious
Tae Ho’s watching a video of a surgery when Myung Hoon walks in to complain about Tae Ho ignoring his calls and to ask if Tae Ho’s aware that Chairman Hong will be speaking to the press that day. Tae Ho replies that the Chairman doesn’t report to him and Myung Hoon fakes concern by saying that he’s worried about Chairman Hong who he thinks should just stay quiet seeing that his stocks is affecting the hospital. Tae Ho cuts through the bullshit and reminds Myung Hoon that they’re not on friendly terms. Myung Hoon immediately drops the act and tells Tae Ho to stop resisting especially because unlike Myung Hoon who comes from a prestigious family and who owns the hospital, Tae Ho’s nothing without Chairman Hong. He tells Tae Ho to report to the Chairman that he should keep pushing as he’s sure that Chairman Hong will soon reach his limit. Chairman Hong hasn’t reached his limit yet though because after the press conference, he heads to his office where Sung Jong’s waiting for him. Sung Jong wonders why the Chairman is holding press conferences that won’t make a difference but Chairman Hong believes that something’s fishy and he intends to flush out the person responsible and install a new board. Sung Jong calls Chairman Hong a perfectionist and tells him to rest as Sung Jong will handle it. Chairman Hong then brings up Myung Hoon, stating that with the latter’s interest in the geriatrics center, he’s the one most likely to profit from Chairman Hong being slandered. Sung Jong insists that it can’t be Myung Hoon because Myung Hoon’s only concern is expanding the hospital. When he and Myung Hoon meet in the hospital hallway however, he tells Myung Hoon that Chairman Hong won’t be backing down and Myung Hoon states that there would be bloodshed.
4. Soo Chul’s surgery is a success
Jung Do’s checks up on Ga Jin to remind her to keep to all her post surgery appointments. He leaves the room and Min Ho runs to meet him to pass across bags of food as a thank you gift to the doctors and asks after Hye Jung. Hye Jung though is in Soo Chul’s surgery which at first runs into a little snag with some unexpected bleeding. Thankfully, Ji Hong handles it and he closes. When Hye Jung expresses her worry that Soo Chul’s vertebral artery is damaged, Ji Hong warns her not to jump to conclusions and to wait for the tests first. After they’re done, Pa Ran goes in for the general surgery to remove Soo Chul’s ruptured spleen and when he comes out, it’s with the good news that Soo Chul’s surgery was successful. Even more good news comes when it’s discovered that the sutured vertebral artery is a non-dominant one, meaning Soo Chul will be just fine. Ji Hong’s delighted to hear the news and Hye Jung tells him that she wants to give him a gift, as one human to the other. Ji Hong can barely stand still as Hye Jung draws closer to him and when she reaches and attempts to twine her arms around the back of her neck, he reaches out to her waist, thinking that she’s about to give him a hug. It turns out not to be a hug though as Hye Jung merely adjusts the collar of his gown (hahahahaha). She teases him for thinking she was about to do something else and he grumbles about her teasing him. They smile and she says thank you. And after she’s gone, Ji Hong comments on her having made his heart flutter (so cute).
5. Soo Chul considers Hye Jung very very special and Seo Woo doubts Ji Hong in HIS OR
Hye Jung heads in to meet Soo Chul who’s terrified because he can’t move his limbs. She reiterates what she’d told him before he’d been wheeled into surgery: that his top two neckbones have been fractured. Soo Chul completes the thought that they would have to be relocated and then screwed in. Now that Hye Jung’s done her job and his surgery was successful, she tells him it’s his turn now. Soo Chul asks if he’d be able to walk again and Hye Jung reminds him that he’d stayed silent and strong by her side when she hadn’t known what to do and had waited until she’d made her decision. He’d been so considerate even though he’d been so young and Soo Chul crows that he was cool (cute). Hye Jung replies that he’s super cool. Soo Chul then asks if his brain won’t be able to control his body anymore and Hye Jung asks him to move his finger. He’s disbelieving that he would be able to do that considering he can’t even move his limbs. But, he does move his finger and tells a delighted Hye Jung that it’s his turn to show how cool and strong he is. Hye Jung replies that she already knows how strong and cool he is and he should meet a nice girl he likes. Soo Chul tells her to meet a nice guy she likes and brings up Ji Hong, remembering him as her school teacher who’s now married (wait, how did that rumor spread so much?). When Hye Jung replies that Ji Hong’s not married, Soo Chul immediately jumps on that and tells her not to marry an older guy because she’s even too good for the richest business tycoons (guy, you’re good for a girl’s ego :D). Instead, she should date a guy like him. Hye Jung teases him that he’s alright now and Soo Chul winks at her (Gah! So cute). After briefing them on what they’re both meant to do: Seo Woo would look out for the tremor point and Hye Jung would keep an eye on the patient, Ji Hong, Seo Woo and Hye Jung head into the operating room for Soo Jeong’s surgery. As planned Ji Hong does the surgery, Seo Woo observes the tremor indication whilst Hye Jung tries to keep Soo Jeong calm and talking, even as she has to tell Ji Hong that the jolt of energy still didn’t stop the tremor. To make it all worse, Soo Jeong begins to lose her sight and Ji Hong observes that she’s probably bleeding. Seo Woo suggests they pull out the probe and wait till the bleeding’s stopped, Hye Jung suggests they continue and Ji Hong use a biopsy needle to suction out the blood until the bleeding stops. Ji Hong chooses to go with Hye Jung’s suggestion but when Soo Jeong’s vision gets worse and she starts to panic, Seo Woo brings up her suggestion that they should stop. Ji Hong halts the words and when she brings it up yet again (girl, I know you’re all you knew Ji Hong from decades past, but you can NOT be questioning him in the OR, during an awake surgery where the patient can hear all that’s going on. The patient wants to know that the doctors are in agreement and know what they’re doing. Your ass just implied that Ji Hong doesn’t know what he’s doing, or that he is willing to jeopardize a patient’s life just because Hye Jung suggested it and that is stupid and selfish and idiotic. Shut the fuck up!). Hye Jung tells her to shut it and thankfully, using the biopsy needle was the right call as Ji Hong’s able to stop the bleeding. This time around, the jolt works and the tremor stops as well. He hands Soo Jeong a bow and she shoots her arrow, hitting the bullseye dead center.
6. Seo Woo’s willfully oblivious
In the changing room, Seo Woo brings up Hye Jung’s words in the OR and wonders if Hye Jung had spoken like that because she had to prove that she and Ji Hong are close. Hye Jung replies that Seo Woo’s the one who was being unprofessional during surgery, what with her questioning Ji Hong’s decision. Seo Woo though sees it as Hye Jung openly embarrassing her and showing off (like seriously though, is this girl actually a thirty one year old woman? She’s basically a sulking child in the body of an adult woman). And even Hye Jung asking her how she would feel if she was the one in Soo Jeong’s position with her head open and her doctors arguing, isn’t enough to get Seo Woo to see any differently. Seo Woo then gets called into Ji Hong’s office where he questions her about her professionalism and the fact that her actions could have caused the patient to panic and doubt Ji Hong’s ability as a doctor, a patient who was very much awake. Seo Woo though is of the opinion that Ji Hong is being too harsh as she’s sure he wouldn’t have done the same with Hye Jung. Ji Hong states that he would do the very same thing if it’s Hye Jung in question and asks how long she will continue to compare the way he treats her and Hye Jung. When she replies that she will continue to do so for the rest of her life (I’ve figured it out, the girl’s had a body switch. Forget that she’s in the body of an adult, that’s a 15 year old girl, throwing a tantrum in a grown woman’s body), Ji Hong sighs and tells her that he’s done trying to persuade her to think otherwise. He tells her she’s off his surgeries for the moment and tells her to leave. Seo Woo sulks as she leaves and Ji Hong grumbles that she drives him nuts (you and me both).
7. Soo Chul allays Ji Hong’s fears and Hye Jung finally tells Min Ho why they can’t just pick things up from where they left off
Hye Jung runs into her father who tries to work up the conversation that Ga Jin’s getting discharged the next day. Hye Jung merely bows and walks away, leaving her father looking stumped. On a lighter note, Ji Hong goes to check on Soo Chul who grumbles that Ji Hong could have easily been briefed by Hye Jung seeing that Ji Hong’s dating Hye Jung. Ji Hong admits to not dating Hye Jung and Soo Chul brings up the fact that Ji Hong’s not married. He sounds so surprised that Ji Hong absently asks if Soo Chul’s married then. Soo Chul admits that he is and the news immediately cheers up Ji Hong who’s all smiles as he says that Soo Chul will recover soon because Soo Chul’s strong and amazing (hahahaha. Ji Hong you silly you. Pile it on some more). He even adds that Soo Chul’s handsome man and tells him that he should let him know if he’s in any form of discomfort. With that done, he walks out, leaving Soo Chul looking confused (Hahaha). Meanwhile, Min Ho sees Hye Jung being warm and friendly with one of her patients. Seeing how radiant she can be with another patient, he has her meet him and asks her exactly what it is that he’s done wrong, stating that she’d left home and torn his heart out in the process (huh? So are we forgetting the part where you kicked her out and when you and Ga Jin took hush money from Myung Hoon?). He tells her that he’s not been able to sleep properly because he’s been worried about her. Hye Jung puts a stop to his words, wondering why he’s suddenly acting the way he’s acting. Min Ho points that children might forget their parents but parents never forget their children. He wonders what he’s done to offend her (oh gee, I don’t know. Maybe it’s the dumping her off on her grandmother part, or all those years before that when you didn’t seem to give a damn?) and why she won’t allow him to get close to her. Hye Jung tears up as she points out that they’ve never been close, and have never been present for each other. With that said, she walks away.
8. Yoon Do starts courting Hye Jung
Hye Jung gets called by Kyung Joon who informs her that Yoon Do stated that she’ll be joining him for his surgery. She asks where Yoon Do’s at and we cut to Yoon Do talking on the phone and stating categorically that he has no interest in being a member of the board. He ends the call and notices Hye Jung standing behind him. She’s come in order to suggest that he perform the surgery with Seo Woo instead, seeing as Seo Woo’s more familiar with the procedure. But Yoon Do asks if Seo Woo should do it then just because she’s always done or if they can only get closer to those they’ve known. When he even ties it to asking if they should only date people they’ve always met, Hye Jung laughs at the leap. He reminds her of what they’d agreed on at the meeting that the fellows can be switched around and grumbles that her insisting on the usual annoyed him. The tone has her laughing and he’s pleased. But when he brings up the fact that her father had brought them food and he’d eaten it, he notices that she doesn’t laugh and concludes that that didn’t make her laugh. She gives him a look and he confidently states that that’s how he wants her to be looking at him (hahaha). Hye Jung tells him to stop being cheesy and he replies that women like cheesy and they eventually find it addicting. She laughs and he tells her that he considers her a woman and tells her that they will head into the cafeteria, eat lunch and then go in for their surgery. He takes her silence as consent and walks away.
9. The doctors let loose
Over at Sooni Hawaii, the party to welcome Kang Soo into the hospital and to celebrate Young Kook’s promotion is in full gear. Kyung Joon’s the emcee and Tae Ho gives a toast about the brain being the controller of the body, meaning neurosurgery rules over all (hahaha. Just try telling Christina Yang that. She’s all for the Cardio gods). Whilst the doctors are having a ton of fun, Yoon Do is meeting Myung Hoon, Sung Jong and Seo Woo for dinner where Myung Hoon and Sung Jong talk about the brilliant opportunities awaiting them all once the hospital gets privatized. Sung Jong mentions that they will need a lot of capable hands and Yoon Do replies that Seo Woo will do just fine. When Seo Woo mentions that he will do fine as well, Yoon Do states that he has no interest in management, otherwise he would have joined his father’s company. What he wants instead is to be free. Sung Jong tries to recover the situation by stating that Yoon Do can then support Seo Woo and Yoon Do excuses himself. Seo Woo catches up to him and he calls the conversation boring and uncomfortable, stating that he’s leaving. She calls it rude to leave in the middle of dinner and he fires back that dinner hasn’t even started yet. When he tells her to pass along the message to her family that he’s leaving so has to reduce the amount of humiliation she would feel, Seo Woo asks if he’s that uncomfortable with eating with her family that he would intentionally hurt her (girl, your father’s annoying and your grandfather even more so. Plus, neither of them is particularly interesting and no one wants to spend time with them). Yoon Do replies that in the ten years they’ve known each other, there hasn’t been a spark between them. Seo Woo replies that she’s felt a spark on her part and Yoon Do replies that it’s not enough to kindle a fire. Seo Woo then tells him that there’s misfortune in his future because that’s what happens to everyone who loves Hye Jung (Bitch). Yoon Do smirks as he states that he will deal with the misfortune (Sweet. You hear that Seo Woo, he’ll rather deal with the misfortune and get the chance to love Hye Jung than love your adolescent ass). With those words, he leaves and heads to Sooni Hawaii where the party’s in full groove and he’s made to drink two glasses of alcohol in rapid succession to catch up with the others. He pulls it off and even Ji Hong’s impressed as he acknowledges that Yoon Do can drink. Next up is Ji Hong himself who’s asked to make a bomb drink. He laughs as he states he can’t pull it off and Hye Jung offers to go first. She balances the whiskey shot over the glass of beer and hits her head hard on the table, causing an impact that has the shot landing perfectly into the beer and it impresses everyone. Ji Hong laughs that he can’t do it, but when Hye Jung offers to help him out, stating that Ji Hong’s not good at things like that, his pride’s hurt and he insists that he would do it himself. He sets up the bomb drink like Hye Jung had and fails spectacularly (hahaha). When everyone insists Hye Jung do it on his behalf, he insists on doing it again. He fails, as expected and everyone has to suppress a laugh (hahaha. Poor Ji Hong. And that extra red forehead looks like it’s really painful). Back at the Jin’s dinner, Myung Hoon figures Yoon Do thinks of Seo Woo as a pushover, because why else would he have been so rude to leave without even saying goodbye. He tells her that the one with the most power in a relationship wins and wonders how she expects him to hand over Kookil to her if she can’t take the lead in her relationship (someone’s getting ahead of himself. Dude, the hospital’s not yours. Sit your ass down, jackass). Seo Woo has to rein in the tears through dinner, but when Young Kook asks when she’s coming over and sends her a picture of everyone including a very happy and smiling Yoon Do, the tears fall as she calls him a jerk.
10. Yoon Do learns the truth and Hye Jung takes a big step forward
Over at the gathering, Ji Hong signals to Hye Jung and he leaves. Hye Jung follows after and Yoon Do who’s spotted the exchange also follows them (puppy’s about to get his heart broken isn’t he?). Whilst the doctors deal with an unconscious Kang Soo who falls after downing a huge bowl of alcohol, Yoon Do spots Hye Jung and Ji Hong walking together, their body language giving them away as it sinks in for him (poor puppy). Ji Hong who’d said he wanted to do something for Hye Jung because she’d taken his drink on his behalf, takes her to a game arcade where they have such a great time playing the games that Hye Jung admits that she’s had a ton of fun and feels like a kid again. Ji Hong smiles and states that they’re going to do everything she loves. Next stop is a soccer field where they race to the goal post. Hye Jung wins and suggests they go again. As they walk back to their starting point, she reaches out and grabs Ji Hong’s hand (Gah! Cute!!!!!!), telling him with a smile that she’ll let him win this time around. As she leads him to the starting point, Ji Hong tells us that for the first time ever, a girl grabbed his hand before he grabbed hers.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
Talk about annoying and fake. And the worse part is, he’s actually insulting Tae Ho’s intelligence. Like seriously dude, nobody believes that you’re worried about the chairman. Nobody. So stop faking it and get the fuck out of Tae Ho’s office.
Headache inducing moment:
None in this episode, thank goodness!
This episode’s a Citrus Sparkler Cocktail. It’s light and fun and flirty and refreshing and has us bursting into big big smiles at Hye Jung’s little step of taking Ji Hong’s hand in hers and leading him. It’s symbolic really because it’s a first for the two of them and Hye Jung’s given a little acknowledgement to herself that she’s developing feelings for Ji Hong. Who knows, maybe soon she will be the active pursuer in the relationship. And then there’s Hye Jung telling Ji Hong that their time at the arcade made her think of happier times as a kid and when we remember that her childhood was filled with the unhappy moments of her parents fighting and her mother killing herself, Ji Hong giving her that precious gift of a happy carefree childhood is delightful. Plus, Ji Hong’s happy smile? Gah! My heart. It stops for him. And even the Jins and their drama aren’t enough to keep us from the happy. Whoohoo! We have progress people. Let’s celebrate.
