Dan Tae comes through for Gong Shim, except she’s not as pleased when the truth comes out. Joon Soo’s back in town and he’s back to being himself and helping Dan Tae like he’s meant to have done from the start. Gong Mi is STILL annoying and Dae Chul’s not as smart as he thinks.
The Episode in 1o Moments:
- Dan Tae confronts Dae Chul and Joon Soo plays right into Dae Chul’s hands
After pulling up Dae Chul’s sleeves and confirming the butterfly tattoo on his arm, Dan Tae accuses Dae Chul of being the one who’d kidnapped Joon Pyo and who’d tried to kill Soo Yong. Dae Chul tries to bluster through the accusation by claiming that Dan Tae doesn’t have any proof but Dan Tae points out Dae Chul’s butterfly tattoo and states that that’s proof because Joon Pyo’s mother was referring to the kidnapper’s tattoo when she said the word ‘butterfly’ before she died. Dae Chul calls the assumption circumstantial as he’s not the only one with a butterfly tattoo and when Dan Tae shows him the image of him visiting Soo Yong, he spins it as him heading there to visit an old friend. He demands that Dan Tae leave and Dan Tae warns him that he will go and get evidence. Evidence it turns out, is meeting Gil Bong and explaining to him that Dae Chul put Soo Yong in the hospital. Gil Bong’s shocked but he still sticks to his, he doesn’t recognize Dae Chul story and Dan Tae has to leave frustrated. Meanwhile, Dae Chul meets with Tea Hee who asks if he’s silenced Soo Yong. Turns out that her definition of ‘silence’ is to offer Soo Yong money (I knew it! Joon Soo should have spoken to his mother first instead of assuming things). Dae Chul lies that he needs a million dollars to bribe Soo Yong as the money he’d given Soo Yong from his personal stash isn’t enough to keep Soo Yong quiet. Tea Hee agrees but warns Dae Chul to do the job right. Unaware that his mother really is innocent and not planning on killing anyone, Joon Soo meets with Dae Chul to inform him that he would side with him and help cover up everything Dae Chul’s done till now (are we really going to drag this cover up bullshit for yet another two episodes? Shit! Someone, give me Gong Shim, please!). Dae Chul’s pleased that Joon Soo’s come over to the dark side and informs him about Dan Tae coming to the office to make a scene. He tells Joon Soo that he believes Dan Tae might soon discover something and when Joon Soo asks him what he’s to do, Dae Chul suggests that he fire Dan Tae (dude, you’re delusional. Dan Tae is Grandmother’s secretary. That is out of Joon Soo’s jurisdiction you dimwit) and then cut off all ties with him. Joon Soo replies that he understands.
2. Doing his uncle’s dirty work
The next morning, Dae Chul finds Dan Tae in his office, holding Dae Chul’s toothbrush. Dan Tae isn’t flustered at being caught and just tells Dae Chul that he’d like to borrow his toothbrush because he has something of Dae Chul that would prove that he’s the kidnapper and he wants to run a DNA test to see if it’s a match (dude! Have you caught the motormouth disease from Joon Soo? Why are you running spilling everything to this guy?). He even tells Dae Chul that the evidence he has is Dae Chul’s DNA which would still be on Joon Pyo’s clothes. The words have Dae Chul realizing that Soo Yong might have kept Joon Pyo’s clothes and he calls Joon Soo to ask him to get rid of the evidence immediately. And so Joon Soo approaches Gong Shim and lies that he forgot something in Dan Tae’s apartment and needs to get in urgently. Gong Shim believes him and tells him the passcode and Joon Soo makes his way into Dan Tae’s house where he creates a mess searching for the clothes. He finally finds the box with the clothes, grabs them and makes his escape. He almost gets caught by Dan Tae who starts to head up the stairs into his apartment and there’s a tense moment. But then Dan Tae decides to head into the convenience store and get his much loved Kingsize lunchbox and Joon Soo’s able to make his escape. He meets his uncle at a furnace where Dae Chul collects Joon Pyo’s clothes and claims that Joon Soo shouldn’t be worried and should just remember that he’s doing it for his ‘mother’. With those words, he throws the clothes into the fire (Joon Soo, you idiot! Although I blame Dan Tae with the mouth that just won’t quit).
3. Meet Dan Tae’s Girlfriend, Gong Shim. As for Gong Shim, she doesn’t have a boyfriend (Hahahahaha)
Dan Tae and Gong Shim have dinner together (he still hasn’t gotten home yet and has no idea that he’s been robbed) and whilst Gong Shim tries to get Dan Tae to confess that they’re perfect for each other, Dan Tae’s former colleague: Min Jung shows up, looking gorgeous and snarky as she wonders if Dan Tae’s now taken to tutoring little kids (Bitch! Who the hell you calling a kid. Shut the fuck up and sit your ass down). She comments that it must be Gong Shim’s second time taking the exams and calls Dan Tae a weird teacher. She makes matters worse by informing Dan Tae that he should have gotten Gong Shim a burger because kids like those and then she attempts to crash their date by asking if Dan Tae’s got a girlfriend yet and then sits down and asks Dan Tae to buy drinks for her. When she asks Gong Shim to head on home, Dan Tae states that he has a girlfriend and introduces Gong Shim as that girlfriend. Min Jung’s shocked and Gong Shim’s pleased (as are we! Dan Tae, you did good!). Gong Shim even snarks about them going home to have some wine and considering that Min Jung’s such a huge fan of drinking alcohol, she can come along with them. Min Jung runs away and on their way back, Gong Shim tries to pry as she asks Dan Tae if all men don’t like sexy types like Min Jung. Dan Tae replies that he likes cute girls like her (awwww). He then asks her what she likes about him. She’s about to reply when she spots her father riding a bicycle and coming towards them. She immediately pushes Dan Tae away (hahahaha) and when her father shows up, he’s none the wiser. He does wonder what Dan Tae’s doing on the ground though and tells him to exercise more often. After he leaves, Gong Shim apologizes for pushing Dan Tae away, stating that she’d been startled to see her father. Dan Tae’s all forgiving and repeats his question, only for Gong Shim’s father to cycle back and then down goes Dan Tae yet again as Gong Shim pushes him away (hahaha. Poor Dan Tae). Except, Dan Tae suffered for nothing as her father chuckles that he saw everything and wishes Dan Tae the best of luck (hahaha) even as he calls out to Gong Shim that she must be very embarrassed at the moment (hahahaha). The moment of levity is destroyed though when Dan Tae gets home and finds his place completely ransacked. When Gong Shim mentions that Joon Soo’s been by and so must have forgotten to properly lock the door, Dan Tae rushes to the bag and realizes that Joon Pyo’s clothes are gone. The realization saddens him and he pulls Gong Shim into a hug (that will teach you to let the baddie know your plans Dan Tae. I thought you were smarter than this).
4. Joon Soo redeems himself and comes to the rescue.
The next morning at Star Group, Dae Chul who cannot leave well enough alone instructs his hired good to put Dan Tae in the hospital for a long time. The man is just about to attack Dan Tae with a pipe when Joon Soo knocks him out cold with a fire extinguisher. Joon Soo’s visibly shaken and only relaxes when Dan Tae confirms that the hired goon isn’t dead. Dan Tae comments that it must have been hard for Joon Soo who wouldn’t hurt a fly and we flashback to before Joon Soo met with Dae Chul and we see that he’d met with Dan Tae first to apologize for the way he’d acted and how he’s tried to save his mother and brought even more hurt to Dan Tae. He admits that it had been Dae Chul who’d attacked Dan Tae’s father and states that he realized that now he wants to help Dan Tae find Joon Pyo and kidnappers. The words have Dan Tae sighing in a relief as he tells Joon Soo that he’s glad to have his friend back (so are we Dan Tae. So are we). Dan Tae brings up the high possibility of his mother and uncle getting implicated for their crimes, Joon Soo replies that he’s okay with them getting punished for their wrongdoing (well would you look at that. He’s finally learning and growing. Proud of you Joon Soo). Dan Tae though is of the opinion that it should be done so Tea Hee and Dae Chul don’t repeat such offenses (you’d better not be hinting that Dae Chul will be able to walk away with it all writer-nim. I want him punished!). Joon Soo admits that he should have thought like that from the start and offers to tell Dan Tae everything he knows about his uncle.
5. Acting according to the script
Turns out that sending Joon Soo to Dan Tae’s apartment had been a ruse from the very start as Joon Soo apologizes for the mess he’d created to throw Dae Chul off should the latter have come to investigate by himself. He also apologizes for the burning of Joon Pyo’s clothes but Dan Tae surprises him by stating that those clothes had been a fake as Joon Pyo’s clothes are safe elsewhere. Joon Soo smiles at the good call and then produces his phone to play the recorded conversation he’d had with Dae Chul where the latter had told him to get Dan Tae fired. Except, Dae Chul’s at the very moment on his way to seeing Joon Soo and when Dan Tae spots his shadow, he sends Joon Soo’s phone flying and then goes into an exaggerated act pretending to be mad and accusing Joon Soo of having raided his house. Dae Chul buys the ruse and orders Dan Tae to release Joon Soo, stating that Dan Tae should be careful otherwise he would lose everything. Dan Tae replies that they would see who would end up losing everything and walks away, secretly smiling to himself once he’s out of sight.
6. Kim Gil Bong grows a conscience and Soo Yong might die
Whilst Dan Tae’s watching Gong Shim at work and being completely proud of how well she’s doing and how much her colleagues admire her work ethics Dae Chul receives a phone call from Gil Bong who calls to inform him that Dan Tae’s told him that Dae Chul’s the one responsible for Soo Young’s accident and Gil Bong doesn’t feel comfortable taking Dae Chul’s money anymore. He tells Dae Chul that he intends to meet with Dan Tae, show him the note and also mention that Dae Chul had paid him (seriously though. Why is everyone so insistent on telling this man their entire plan before they execute it. Like seriously though. Why?!). Dae Chul tries to beg Gil Bong but the man hangs up and we see that Dan Tae had been right beside him all along. Whilst at Gil Bong, Dan Tae receives a call that has him rushing to the hospital where the doctor informs him that Soo Yong had yet another seizure and the family has to prepare themselves as there’s a possibility that Soo Yong will die.
7. Grandmother meets an unconscious Soo Yong and Gong Shim learns the truth
Dan Tae’s aunt comes to bring him food and clean his apartment and ever helpful Gong Shim is there to help in whatever way she can. When Dan Tae’s aunt leaves however, she mistakenly drops her visitor’s badge, letting her into the ICU and Gong Shim decides to take it to her at the hospital. Unaware that Gong Shim’s headed there at the moment, Dan Tae takes Grandmother to visit Soo Yong after she insists on seeing him and insists that she doesn’t care that he’s in a coma. Seeing him in a coma affects her however, but she pushes through to thank Soo Yong for his help in taking care of Dan Tae, stating that she doesn’t resent him because she’s aware that he wanted to bring Dan Tae back. She continues that all that matters to her is that he’d taken care of Dan Tae and she wishes she could talk to him and thank him in person. She tears up and thanks Dan Tae, calling him Joon Pyo after he comforts her and calls her Grandmother. It’s these words that Gong Shim hears and is startled. Dan Tae tries to explain but Grandmother wins out and has a sit-down with Gong Shim to explain the details of everything that happened with Dan Tae/Joon Pyo. After her meeting with Grandmother, Gong Shim meets with Dan Tae and confirms that the month when he’d been MIA had been the month when he’d learned the truth, and that Joon Soo has no idea. She also realizes that it’s because Dan Tae’s focused on catching the killer that he hadn’t come clean with her and she asks him if he would go back to being Joon Pyo after his kidnapper’s been captured. Silence is all the confirmation she needs and she requests to see his father who’s in a critical condition.
8. Getting grilled by the parents and Gong Mi’s still self-serving
Whilst still thinking on Gong Shim’s words, asking him if he would return to being Joon Pyo after his kidnapper’s been found, Joon Pyo’s thoughts are interrupted by Gong Shim’s father who calls him downstairs where he and Jae Boon proceed to grill him on his relationship with Gong Shim and his personal life. That has Jae Boon stumped as she realizes that Dan Tae’s broke (hahaha. Technically, no), has no living parents (his Grandmother’s the Chairwoman of Star Group) and doesn’t seemingly have a future (huh… not quite). Gong Shim interrupts though before the questioning can get too personal and she excuses herself and Dan Tae for a little private chat whilst her father expresses his satisfaction with Dan Tae because he’s clearly easygoing and he loves Gong Shim. Gong Mi joins them and they fill her in on the relationship and ask for her opinion. Gong Mi states with a smile that they should be happy for them if Gong Shim and Dan Tae like each other (I wonder if you’d be saying the same when you learn that Dan Tae’s the heir of Star Group and not Joon Soo like you’ve always thought).
9. Gong Shim’s imagination is still very active and Gong Mi remains annoying
Whilst her family talks about her love life downstairs, Gong Shim’s talking with Dan Tae to whom she explains that she’d spent the rest of the day thinking about a lot of things. When Dan Tae asks her what she’s been thinking about, Gong Shim replies that although she understands his situation, she feels he should still have confided in her nonetheless (you go girl! Tell him). Dan Tae points out that he’s still the same person but Gong Shim asks for the night to think things over. Thinking things over turns out to be her imagination working overtime as she imagines Grandmother offering her money and insisting she break up with Dan Tae because she can’t accept Gong Shim into her family. She even tosses water in Gong Shim’s face and Gong Shim has to shake her head as she realizes that she’s watched way too many dramas (hahaha. Glad to see that you realize that Gong Shim). Except she launches yet into another daydream, this time, of Dan Tae all cleaned up and a chaebol, and he doesn’t recognize or acknowledge her. She wails that she doesn’t know what to do and so when she spots Dan Tae eating his ramyeon the next morning, as always, she’s runs off instead of waiting for him to finish eating and accompany her to work (awww. Poor Dan Tae). Meanwhile, over at the office, Joon Soo visits Gong Mi with drinks in hand and she casually drops the news that Dan Tae and Gong Shim are dating and her parents already think of Dan Tae as their son-in-law.
10. Setting the plan to catch Dae Chul in the act
Dan Tae meets with Joon Soo and unaware that Joon Soo’s crestfallen expression is because of Joon Soo’s discovery that Dan Tae and Gong Shim are officially dating, Dan Tae suggests that Joon Soo pull out as he’s sure the strain is most likely getting to him. Joon Soo though wants to see things through and the cousins move onto the next step of their plan which involves Dae Chul getting a package with an identical set of Joon Pyo’s clothes. Even as he panics, Dan Tae calls and informs him that the clothes Joon Soo had stolen had been a fake and the original clothes have been taken to be tested, alongside Dae Chul’s toothbrush. Dae Chul as expected, panic. Dan Tae and Joon Soo kick off the next part of their plan which is to get Ho Joong and his uncle who looks an awfully lot like Soo Yong in on the plan. Ho Joong’s uncle disguises like Soo Yong and Ho Joong installs cameras and a microphone in the room. Joon Soo then plays his role and calls Dae Chul to feed him a line about Soo Yong having regained consciousness and him being moved to another hospital because of the last attack. Dae Chul promises to handle things and Dan Tae again suggests that Joon Soo can step back for the plan. But Joon Soo insists on seeing things through and so is with Dan Tae looking in on the hospital room when Dae Chul enters, spots Ho Joong’s uncle who really does look like Soo Yong, and then moves to attempt to unhook Ho Joong’s uncle from the ventilator.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
No one in this episode. Funny because I kept wanting to bitchslap Joon Soo but after he redeemed himself and I saw that it was all part of the plan, everything was forgiven.
Headache inducing moment:
None in this episode. Although every time Dan Tae blurted out his plans to Soo Yong, I assumed that he was being stupid and got myself a migraine. But the minute I found out that the information was released on purpose? Well, away went the migraine and I said hello to the sense of satisfaction.
This episode’s a Raspiroska. It’s breathed life back into Beautiful Gong Shim, what with our two friends turned cousins, working together to take down Dae Chul. It’s amazing really because seeing the tables get turned on Dae Chul who continues to think of himself as the smart one is utterly satisfying and totallysweet. Here’s hoping our team succeed and Gong Shim ends up with Dan Tae because they’re our OTP.
