We make a shocking discovery as to who Park Tae Soo’s grandson is and it’s a discovery that will complicate things a whole lot more. Jung Nan Jung finally gets what she’s been scheming for so long to achieve and is now on the warpath to bring down all who oppose her and Ok Nyeo decides to come very close for the sake of Jeonokseo.
Top 10 Moments:
- Myung Seon dies and Jung Nan Jung is free to continue to wreck havoc
Ok Nyeo immediately chases Myung Seon’s murderer and just about catches him too. But his partners come to his rescue and they shoot at her, the killer’s able to make his escape. By the time Ok Nyeo gets back to the others, Myung Seon is dead and the Officer of Law Enforcement explains that with the absence of Myung Seon, the one true witness to Jung Nan Jung’s crime, every claim they make can be accounted as being entirely made of assumptions. He warns them to be wary, especially considering the power Lord Yoon and Jung Nan Jung wield and with those words leave a frustrated Ok Nyeo and Tae Won behind. Meanwhile, Dong Joo meets with Jung Nan Jung to inform her that Myung Seon’s been handled. When she brings up Ok Nyeo, Jung Nan Jung expresses her desire to kill Ok Nyeo but says she can’t touch her yet as the Queen Dowager has her eyes on Ok Nyeo. The very same Ok Nyeo is at the moment with Tae Won who is frustrated that his plans to get back at Jung Nan Jung ever since his mother died when he was 14 keep right on failing and make him feel like he’s just hitting his head against the wall. When Ok Nyeo tries to console that all hope isn’t lost yet, Tae Won confirms that the Officer of Law Enforcement is right and without witnesses or solid evidence, they can’t prove anything. The words put Ok Nyeo in the very same slump as Tae Won.
2. Just a crack is all that’s needed
Tae Won’s drinking when he gets a surprise visitor in Mak Gae who’s come because Lord Yoon wants to arrange a meeting with Tae Won. Tae Won’s not interested and even Mak Gae bringing up the fact that Lord Yoon had gotten Tae Won out of his treason charge and ultimately prison, just has Tae Won more pissed as he points out the fact that he was framed for the treason. He tells Mak Gae to get lost and Mak Gae goes to meet Lord Yoon and inform him that the time’s not a good one to meet with Tae Won. Meanwhile, Ok Nyeo meets with Lee Ji Ham to tell him about the failure that was the attempt to apprehend Jung Nan Jung. Lee Ji Ham suggests that she bid her time and wait. Ok Nyeo though is impatient to get started and Lee Ji Ham tells her that power never lasts forever and all that’s needed is for a crack to appear. Once the crack appears, the entire structure will come tumbling down. He tells Ok Nyeo not to be reckless and attempt to bring the powerful down all at once. Rather, she should think of a way to make that small crack. The next morning, Ok Nyeo informs Treasurer Ji that she’s heading to Anguk Dong. Treasurer Ji though takes the moment to rib Jong Hwe about the fact that Treasurer Ji’s been assigned Jong Hwe’s duties, meaning Jong Hwe must carry out Treasurer Ji’s jobs in return. When Jong Hwe makes to protest, Treasurer Ji pretends like he’s going to tell Dae Shik and Jong Hwe hurries to carry out the action, making Treasurer Ji bust out laughing (hahahaha). Ok Nyeo also laughs and warns Treasurer Ji not to torture Jong Hwe too much as it might all come around some day. She then leaves, but runs into Chung Doong who tells her about the court lady he’d found and how she’d almost killed him. He tells Ok Nyeo that he’s scared especially because all the court ladies and maids he’d found for her had all died. Ok Nyeo though isn’t willing to give up the search and states that she must meet with the court lady.
3. The lady at Anguk Dong dies
Ok Nyeo gets to Anguk Dong and prepares medicine for Lord Yoon’s wife. She’s just about to go in when Tae Won enters and when he asks about Lord Yoon’s wife, Ok Nyeo replies that she’s been sleeping. Except, when Ok Nyeo get in, she screams and by the time Tae Won enters, he sees Lord Yoon’s wife, dying, as she coughs up blood. He tries to get Ok Nyeo to call for the physician but Lord Yoon’s wife is aware that her time’s come and instead takes the moment to ask Tae Won to let go of the resentment in his heart and forget about getting revenge. She wants him to focus on living his life and when Tae Won agrees but begs her to stay alive so she can see it happen, she apologizes to Tae Won, tells Ok Nyeo to take care of Tae Won on her behalf and then dies, leaving Tae Won to wail for her as Ok Nyeo dissolves into tears (awwww. And I really really liked her. I hope you pay for this Jung Nan Jung). The news soon spreads and Do Chi comes running into the merchant organization to deliver the news to Jak Doo and Jae Myung, who wonders why all these bad things keep happening to Tae Won (I know the reason. Her names starts with Jung and ends with Jung). All three of them then head to Anguk Dong where Tae Won who is dressed in funeral robes accepts them. Jae Myung offers his condolences and tells Tae Won that Lord Yoon’s wife has most likely gone to a better place where Lord Yoon and Jung Nan Jung wouldn’t be able to control things. He then exclaims at how silent everywhere is and immediately puts Do Chi and Jak Doo to work on hosting an appropriate funeral, complete with professional wailers so Lord Yoon’s wife will be able to go on to the afterlife without feeling lonely. By nighttime, Anguk Dong is bustling with people who’ve come for the funeral, and the professional wailers are gathered outside, wailing. Everybody’s present, even Chun Doong who’s come with his minions to help out. Lord Yoon however is conspicuously absent.
4. Tae Won and his father finally meet
Turns out Lord Yoon had no idea that his first wife had died until Mak Gae comes running in that night to inform him of his wife’s passing after a long battle with illness. Mak Gae suggests that he go for the wake but Lord Yoon figures that he doesn’t have the right to be there. Mak Gae though suggests he go so as not to make people talk. Meanwhile, Jung Nan Jung hears the news and is delighted that after causing her all that trouble, Lord Yoon’s first wife is finally dead. She figures that it’s just a matter of time before she becomes Lord Yoon’s legally registered wife. The next morning, Lord Yoon heads to Anguk Dong and although he’s clearly surprised to see Ok Nyeo there, he doesn’t say anything and instead keeps his peace as he enters the house where he sees Tae Won, still in his mourning robes. He recognizes him as Tae Won, whilst Tae Won wonders what he’s doing there and gets angry when Lord Yoon replies that he came to pay his respects to his late wife. Tae Won accuses Lord Yoon of coming and tarnishing his first wife’s memory and when Lord Yoon doesn’t know why Tae Won’s saying the words, Tae Won informs him that his first wife had been poisoned by Jung Nan Jung. The words have Lord Yoon slapping Tae Won hard across the face as he believes that Tae Won’s only speaking like that because of how much he hates him and Jung Nan Jung. Tae Won though isn’t done as he shouts that Jung Nan Jung used Lord Yoon’s first wife’s maid to poison her with an undetectable poison and then had the maid killed. Tae Won vows to make to Jung Nan Jung pay for the murder and Lord Yoon stumbles backwards in shock, and then he leaves the room.
5. Lord Yoon gets mad and Jong Hwe gets back in Dae Shik’s good graces
Lord Yoon asks Mak Gae if he’s aware of Jung Nan Jung possibly killing his wife. Mak Gae denies her being capable of such and when Lord Yoon gets home and confronts Jung Nan Jung about it, she calls the claims false and accuses the person who’s spoken of slandering her. When she demands to know who told him the story, Lord Yoon storms out and Jung Nan Jung sinks to the floor, frightened. Meanwhile Tae Won returns to the merchant organization ready to get back to work and Jong Hwe who’s still being treated as trash by Dae Shik decides to get his revenge by sicking the inept police chief: Seok Woo on Dae Shik. Seok Woo thus comes running to Jeonokseo with police officers in tow and they make a mess of Dae Shik’s office. When Dae Shik challenges him as to what he’s doing, Seok Woo informs him that they’d gotten a report that Dae Shik lives off the poor prisoners in Jeonokseo and so they’ve come to investigate him. When Dae Shik screams at the slight, Seok Woo punches him in the face (ouch) and accuses him of obstructing justice. He has Dae Shik tied up which is when Jong Hwe comes screaming in line with his plan with Officer Yang and attacks Seok Woo, screaming that Seok Woo should release Dae Shik. Seok Woo orders him tied up as well which is why both he and Dae Shik are held in the police station and Dae Shik expresses his surprise at how loyal Jong Hwe turned out to be. When he apologizes, Jong Hwe tells him there’s no need for Dae Shik to apologize and this just has Dae Shik beating himself up for having been so rude to a nice person like Jong Hwe. When he calls himself crazy for having acted so badly to Jong Hwe, Jong Hwe lays it on thick that he’s even willing to take a knife for Dae Shik. It’s at this point that Officer Yang comes in and winks to Jong Hwe when Dae Shik’s not looking. The minute Jong Hwe’s released, Dae Shik takes to crying and hugging him (hahahaha. He really is a birdbrain isn’t he?).
6. Ji Hun continues to ingratiate himself within the Yoon household
Ji Hun meets with Jung Nan Jung who thanks him for his contributions in getting Lord Yoon out of prison and settling the political situation (oh, you mean the political situation you created all on your own?). She tells him that the Queen Dowager has also taken note of his contributions and will reach out to him soon. She then moves on to when the family will meet and Ji Hun replies that he will send a message to his house soon. On his way out, he runs into Shin Hye and asks to have tea with her (and might I add that these two will have very pretty babies. Just saying). She serves him tea and then he launches into a speech about being a very ambitious person which is why he’d considered his marriage to her a stepping stone for himself. He apologizes for his ambitions but Shin Hye doesn’t mind as replies that she can’t stand men without aspirations. She promises to be a good wife to him. At the words, Ji Hun smiles.
7. Ok Nyeo makes a request for Park Tae Soo and Jung Nan Jung, for ‘Shin Hye’
Ok Nyeo receives a surprise visit at Jeonokseo: Court Lady Kim who’s come to invite Ok Nyeo to the palace because the Queen Dowager wants to meet her. The others at Jeonokseo are happy at the perceived closeness with the Queen Dowager whilst Jung Nan Jung who gets to the palace after Ok Nyeo is horrified to hear that she’s at the moment meeting with the Queen Dowager. The Queen Dowager though is asking if Ok Nyeo would like to work in the palace as the Queen Dowager’s personal maid. Ok Nyeo respectfully turns down the offer, stating that she would rather prefer to work at Jeonokseo. When the Queen Dowager tells her that she’s willing to grant any of Ok Nyeo’s requests, Ok Nyeo remembers at the last minute the warnings of the head of the Palace Guard: Choon Soo, and decides not to tell the Queen about the fake treason. Instead, she asks that Park Tae Soo’s honor be restored. The Queen Dowager smiles, saying she knows what Ok Nyeo’s asking for, but the request isn’t something she can easily decide and so she says she will think about it. Outside the Queen Dowager’s chambers, Ok Nyeo runs into Jung Nan Jung who gives a biting smile and comments on the fact that she and Ok Nyeo are always meeting in the palace. When she suggests they someday meet outside the palace, Ok Nyeo’s face turns hard as she says she has no intention of doing so, and then she walks away. Jung Nan Jung meanwhile, meets with the Queen Dowager and turns on the waterworks as she begs her to let her be a good mother to Shin Hye and not send Shin Hye off to her husband’s family as the daughter of a concubine. The Queen Dowager immediately understands that Jung Nan Jung is asking for the Revered Lady title, but warns her about the fact that people would talk about her getting the title shortly after the death of Lord Yoon’s first wife. Jung Nan Jung doesn’t care though and next thing we see, she walks into the Yoon Household looking dazed and breaks the news to Mak Gae and Dong Joo that the Queen Dowager bestowed the title on her (heavens save us all. She will now be totally unbearable). She of course immediately thinks to all those who have insulted and belittled her and how she’s going to show them how powerful she has now become.
8. Drought is coming to Jeonokseo and Tae Won gets a job offer
Unaware that Jong Hwe has resolved his issues with Dae Shik, Treasurer Ji, Hyo Sung and Yoo Geum are worried on his behalf when he strolls into Dae Shik’s office, all unconcerned. They’re even more surprised when Dae Shik’s back with his shifty ways and being all cordial and even friendly with Jong Hwe and Treasurer Ji storms off at the fact that now he has to do but his and Jong Hwe’s jobs because of Dae Shik’s fickle nature. Dae Shik in the meanwhile is meeting Ok Nyeo and informing her that Jeonokseo won’t be receiving any rations for the next three months because of the famine spreading across the country. None of the ideas Dae Shik suggests is feasible in feeding the prisoners for more than a month and he’s furious that the prisoners have to starve whilst Jung Nan Jung’s barn stays fully stocked up with rice. Someone else who’s pissed at Jung Nan Jung is Tae Won when he visits Gyo Ha at Sosoru and learns that she’s been given the Revered Lady title. Gyo Ha doesn’t let on him dwell on it that long however as she makes him an offer to take over Sosoru, seeing that it’s not only a place for Gisaengs but it’s also a place where political meetings take place. Meaning, it would be a good location for Tae Won’s fight against Jung Nan Jung.
9. Ok Nyeo plays a very dangerous game
Ok Nyeo runs straight to Tae Won who she informs about the fact that the prisoner’s rations at Jeonokseo are about to be cut off because of the famine. When Tae Won then asks her if she’s about to ask him for rice, Ok Nyeo tells him of her plan to siphon some of the rice being sent to Jung Nan Jung and take it to Jeonokseo instead. Tae Won is surprised at the audacity as are Woo Chi and Lee Ji Ham when she tells them of her plan. When she suggests they find a way of getting the rice, either by stealing it or conning it out of the people carrying it, Woo Chi pulls out, stating that he’s not willing to do anything to upset Jung Nan Jung. Lee Ji Ham however calls him out on the fact and asks him if that’s why he’s always stolen from the powerless peasants. Woo Chi denies doing that however, stating that he’s only ever conned rich nobles. This has Lee Ji Ham telling him to see this as his chance then to start figuring out a way to con Jung Nan Jung and Lord Yoon. He then turns to ask Ok Nyeo if that’s how she intends to find her crack and Ok Nyeo agrees as she states that she’s not being interested in running away anymore. The words has Lee Ji Ham offering his support and Tae Won also offers his support although he warns her that he won’t be bringing the other members of the merchant’s organization into the matter for fear of them getting hurt.
10. Park Tae Soo’s grandson is found
The two families: Ji Hun’s and and Shin Hye’s meet and spend the entire meal complimenting the other person’s child. So, there are compliments about how much Ji Hun’s a blessing to the family (on the part of Jung Nan Jung and Lord Yoon) and how Shin Hye’s such a sweet child and a blessing (on the part of Ji Hun’s father). On the other side of town however, we see the former head of the spies, Sun Ho meet with the court lady with the jade rings, who tells him not to side with any political fraction now that he’s going into the palace now that the spy network has been disbanded by the Queen Dowager and to wait for her command. Still on another side of town, Chun Doong gets a visit from one of the boys he’s sent out to help locate Park Tae Soo’s grandson and the boy comes with good news that the grandson’s been found. Meanwhile, Ok Nyeo’s at the market where Chun Doong’s minions try to pick her pocket. When she catches one of the them, they push her down and run away with her bag which they bring to Choong Nam who checks the contents, sees the jade rings and asks them who they’d stolen it from. Ok Nyeo makes her appearance and Chun Doong introduces them and apologizes on their behalf. Ok Nyeo is just about to leave when Chun Doong remembers his visitor and delivers the message to Ok Nyeo that Park Tae Soo’s grandson had been adopted by the richest man in Kaseong. In other words, it’s Ji Hun himself. Ok Nyeo then hurries to meet Ji Hun to talk with him but Ji Hun demands she tells him what she wants to say in public.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
No one. Thank heavens Ji Hun. You’re safe. Hope you find a way to keep yourself from getting bitchslapped in the next episode.
Headache inducing moment:
This episode’s a Citrus Sprinkler. It’s light and fresh and utterly amazing. We’re at least done with all the drama with the treason for now and the drama has me tingling with anticipation about us moving onto the next stage of things: meaning, getting Ji Hun away from the control of the Yoon Household, because he might be stupid but he isn’t stupid enough to stay close to a family that had killed his grandfather. Or at least I hope he isn’t. The guy does act like a complete moron sometimes.
