When our lead learns to read social cues and our female lead, beautiful and sweet kisses happen. Soo Ho finally admits to himself and to others that he likes Bo Nui. Bo Nui likes him back but wants to put him at arm’s length. Gun Wook is still crushing on Bo Nui and Seol Hee’s still trying to end up with Soo Ho, but the only one Soo Ho’s interested in is the superstitious bug who’s wormed her way into his heart.
Top 10 Moments:
- The Morning After
Just as expected, Ryang Ha and Dal Nim wake up holding each other, snuggled beneath the covers (hahahaha. I so totally saw that coming). Whilst Ryang Ha is screaming that it must all be a nightmare and Dal Nim is screaming and asking him what he did to her the previous night, Seung Hyun who has been looking for Dal Nim comes walking into the room to ask if Ryang Ha has seen Dal Nim. Although Dal Nim’s legs can clearly be seen beneath the covers, Seung Hyun doesn’t notice as she explains to Ryang Ha that Soo Ho had to head to Seoul with Bo Nui the previous night because Dae Kwon, Hyun Bin and Ji Hoon had tossed Soo Ho into the water. Whilst Ryang Ha is horrified at the act, knowing fully well Soo Ho’s phobia, Dal Nim is horrified that not only did Soo Ho return back to Seoul, but he did so with Bo Nui. Meanwhile, Seol Hee is trying to coordinate Gun Wook’s upcoming interview. When the interviewer asks if he can ask Gun Wook questions about his first love. The words take Seol Hee back to when Soo Ho had told her, on their walk the previous night, that he’s not sure what love is, but he knows that she was his everything at a particular point. When Seol Hee had asked if she was still his everything in the present, Soo Ho didn’t say anything and had just walked away. Even as Seol Hee realizes that Soo Ho had spoken in past tense, Gun Wook keeps checking those who enter his changing room, hoping to see Bo Nui. He finally calls Dal Nim and is not too pleased that Bo Nui went to Seoul the previous night with Soo Ho. Bo Nui on the other hand is still at Soo Ho’s and her attempts to disengage their clutched hands has a sleeping Soo Ho pulling her to him. He holds on to her so tightly that she isn’t even able to reach for her phone to pick up Gun Wook’s calls (it’s cute but I feel sad for Gun Wook. You promised him you’d be there Bo Nui).
2. The interview and an angry confession
With Bo Nui not picking up, Gun Wook heads in for his interview. Just as he gives the interviewer his Korean name, whilst explaining that he’s always been called Gary since he was little, he spots someone who looks like Bo Nui and gets so distracted that he rises from his seat mid-interview, and has to settle back in when he realizes that it isn’t her. The interview continues with baby pictures of Gun Wook being shown whilst Gun Wook explains to those watching that he’s searching for his father: Choi Ho, unaware that Choi Ho is at the moment watching the show. Choi Ho looks pained when the woman at the convenience store that he’s come to buy things at scoffs at the fact that Gun Wook earns a lot of money but hasn’t seen his father in years. He’s even more pained when he hears Gun Wook tell the interviewer that he resented his father a lot as a kid and walks away, not hearing the rest of the interview (seriously dude. That’s the time you’re supposed to wait a while. I’m sure he ended it with how much he loves you and wants to see you. Why be in a hurry to not hear the rest of the interview huh?). Bo Nui comes running in after the interview is over and even as she’s apologizing and telling him that she watched the interview on her way, whilst on the bus, Gun Wook leads her outside to ask her why she hadn’t come on time. Bo Nui’s reply that she had been taking care of a sick Soo Ho is met with Gun Wook going twenty questions, asking if Soo Ho had been at the point of death because he doesn’t see why Bo Nui couldn’t come or why she wouldn’t have picked up his calls and had instead decided to spend all night with Soo Ho. He starts to raise his voice and when Bo Nui wonders why he’s so angry, he blurts out that he likes her. When he makes to continue, Bo Nui stops him, believing that he’s speaking from a place of anger and tells him not to say anything he will regret because that’s not what their relationship is like (and that’s what happens when you blurt out a confession in the midst of an argument to a woman who basically considers you her baby brother. *Sigh*).
3. Soo Ho’s in love and he’s not denying it
Worried for Soo Ho, Ryang Ha comes running into Soo Ho’s apartment, screaming his name and is relieved when Soo Ho comes out his grumpy self, whole and well. When he sees the salt and red beans in Soo Ho’s fridge (hahaha. And how much do I love how Soo Ho’s just letting Bo Nui take over his space: his desk; his fridge, with her superstitious items. So cute), and hears the rest of the tale, Ryang Ha tells Soo Ho that Soo Ho’s in love, and reels out all the signs that confirm it. He’s even more delighted when he realizes that Soo Ho is making no attempt to deny that he’s in love (awwwww. Soo Ho). But then, he’s horrified to learn that Soo Ho hasn’t reached out to Bo Nui since, to try and set up their next date. And so, whilst Bo Nui is asking an absent Bo Ra what she should do about everything that’s happening, she gets a text from Soo Ho asking her about her plans for the rest of the day. When she replies by asking him if he’s feeling better, adorable Soo Ho decides to send her different and totally unrelated emojis, which has Ryang Ha wailing about Soo Ho’s IQ level. When Soo Ho notices how excited Ryang Ha seems to be about his love life, he attempts to push him out of the house, only for Soo Ho to get a text from Bo Nui, asking if he’s feeling better and telling him that she would see him by Monday. Ryang Ha is positively delighted at no game Soo Ho and Soo Ho, huffy asks him to leave (awwww. My poor baby bird. Give him some dating advise Ryang Ha. Hahahaha).
4. Gun Wook’s living in la-la land and realization dawns on Seol Hee
Back at home, Gun Wook pulls out the owl Bo Nui had given him and smiles at it. Seol Hee spotting the owl guesses that it’s from Bo Nui and that Gun Wook likes her. When Gun Wook confirms it, she asks if he intends to date Bo Nui. When Gun Wook tells her that he intends to do so, Seol Hee is all up for it, as long as he only dates Bo Nui for a month and then breaks up with her (wait what?), because he’s Gary Choi and he has to leave soon enough (so what? Tennis stars can’t live in their home countries and then travel for their matches? He can afford it you know. Plus, dude, if your plan is to break Bo Nui’s heart after a month, don’t even consider it because Soo Ho’s there, ready to date her for forever. Plus, Seol Hee, wouldn’t you be going back with Gun Wook in a month? Why are you so focused on dating Soo Ho then? Do you want to break his heart a second time). Outside, Seol Hee runs into Bo Nui who’s come bearing gifts for Gun Wook as an apology for not making it to his interview on time. Seol Hee wonders if it’s also an apology for Bo Nui having to listen to his feelings and asks Bo Nui if she likes Gun Wook. Bo Nui says she doesn’t, so Seol Hee asks her where she was that she couldn’t make it to the interview. When Bo Nui answers that she’d been with Soo Ho who had been tossed into a pool as a joke, Seol Hee gets frantic, shouting and asking why Bo Nui didn’t take Soo Ho to the hospital. She tells Bo Nui that it wasn’t Bo Nui’s call to make (actually, Seol Hee, it’s not your call to say it’s not Bo Nui’s call. You’re nothing but an exg-irlfriend. Bo Nui’s the one he likes. See the difference?). Bo Nui though stays calm as asks Seol Hee why she’s shouting at her. When Seol Hee tries to bring up the, ‘you don’t know what trauma he’s been through’ talk, Bo Nui tells her that she does know. Seol Hee is surprised, but even more surprised to learn that it was Soo Ho that had filled Bo Nui in on the details of what happened.
5. Everyone’s confessing to Bo Nui
Soo Ho spends the night thinking of Bo Nui promising not to leave him on the night he was ill, and he’s so thrilled at the words that he spends the time spazzing and squealing and being utterly adorable, until he decides to practice the right words to say so he can ask Bo Nui if she’s willing to hang out with him the next evening. When Bo Nui replies that she has plans, his high from all the excitement comes crashing down as he wails about her always having plans (hahahaha. So cute), and then he wonders if she’s at home. Cut to him riding his bike to her house, unaware that Gun Wook is at the moment asking Bo Nui not to give him a reply to his confession as of now because he wants to work on impressing her and getting her to open her heart to him. And the first phase of his plans is to ask her out on a date. When she smiles at the outrageous request, he leaves happy as he tells her that yes, he wants her to keep smiling like that (dude, you know she didn’t give you an answer to your request right?) and then he has to calm his racing heart when he gets to his apartment. Soo Ho meanwhile has stars in his eyes and a big smile on his face as he goes through the printed pictures of Bo Nui at the company workshop, which he’d printed just for the sole reason of having an excuse to see her. Except, Bo Nui isn’t picking up her phone and a lot of time has passed by the time she thinks to check it and sees Soo Ho’s messages to her about him being at the park and wanting her to come because he has something to give her. Bo Nui immediately runs to the park, but Soo Ho has already gone. Whilst she tosses and turns at night, thinking to herself that it’s for the best that she didn’t see Soo Ho, she gets a late night visitor knocking on her door and ringing her doorbell. She’s surprised to see Soo Ho at her house that late at night and says so. Soo Ho replies that he couldn’t sleep and kept tossing and turning till he felt like his head was going to explode. Plus, he couldn’t erase the ‘get well inscription she’d written on his hand for fear of losing the memory of the night they’d spent together (wow. Are you actually coming out to tell her your feelings Soo Ho. I’m so proud). He says he knows it’s not a rational or logical fear but that’s how he feels. He calls her a bug because no amount of calculations he makes can solve her and she’s messing with his head, his life, his everything but he doesn’t want to get rid of the bug, and would rather let it stay in his head. When he asks if he should keep the bug or kill it, Bo Nui simply tells him to leave as it’s early in the morning. She closes the door, although she looks like she wants to open it right back, and peeps at Soo Ho as he walks away all downcast (awwwww. Soo Ho. She’s probably worried about bringing her bad luck to you and hurting you is all).
6. Dal Nim unknowingly sabotages her love life and Seol Hee has her suspicions confirmed
Whilst Gun Wook is hitting balls and telling himself that getting rejected once doesn’t put him out of the game, Bo Nui is filling Dal Nim in on the happenings of the previous night Dal Nim is at first annoyed that Bo Nui’s love life is booming whilst hers is thorny, but soon she’s happy and thrilled for her friend. She confirms that the first person is Gun Wook and when she wonders who the second guy is: the guy who thinks he can compete against the best of the human race, Bo Nui doesn’t answer her. Dal Nim though guesses that it’s the man that Bo Nui describes as a summer breeze softly brushing against her heart. When Bo Nui replies that it would all fade away and would soon become only a pleasant memory, Dal Nim sets her straight by telling her that it’s already hard for two people to like each other at the same time, and advises Bo Nui to simply go with the flow. Bo Nui though isn’t interested in going with the flow as what she needs is advise on how to reject a confession (from Gun Wook, sure. But rejecting Soo Ho’s cute confession is wrong on so many levels). Soo Ho meanwhile is waiting for Bo Nui’s calls and wondering if his phone is broken. When his doorbell rings, he runs to it, thinking it’s Bo Nui, but his smile falls when he sees that it’s Seol Hee who’s come to try and stock his fridge and takes note of the salt and red beans in said fridge. When Soo Ho tells her that she should focus all her efforts on Gun Wook, her client, Seol Hee tells Soo Ho that what Gun Wook wants right now is Bo Nui (bitch, don’t give me that bullshit. Especially when we both know you’ve said that Gun Wook can’t be with Bo Nui for more than a month. Don’t pretend this is coming from a place of care and concern). Soo Ho though tells her that he doesn’t want to hear it (good for you Soo Ho!). When Seol Hee assumes that it’s because Soo Ho doesn’t like talking about other people, Soo Ho clarifies it for her that it’s because he likes Bo Nui (awesome. Awesome!!!). Seol Hee is surprised and she tries to bring up Soo Ho’s words that he doesn’t know what love is and Soo Ho replies that he wants to find out whether or not it’s love. Seol Hee though just confirms that Soo Ho and Bo Nui aren’t dating and says that’s enough for her. Outside Soo Ho’s apartment, and unaware that Bo Nui’s looking at the two of them, Seol Hee wonders if it’s all Soo Ho’s punishment for her hurting him back in the day. When she touches Soo Ho’s cheek after reminding him that she was once his everything, Bo Nui turns and walks away and so doesn’t see Soo Ho push away Seol Hee’s hands.
7. Soo Ho has his staff befuddled
The next morning, whilst Dae Hae is getting briefed, Soo Ho runs into him and after asking him how his work is going, awkwardly mentions to him that he should be sure to tell everyone, the employees inclusive how good it is working at Zeze. Dae Hae teases him that he will be sure to make sure that Bo Nui hears and when Soo Ho leaves, he thinks to himself that something must definitely be going on between Soo Ho and Bo Nui. Soo Ho meanwhile is at the elevator waiting for Bo Nui and when they finally get a private moment together asks her if she doesn’t have anything to say to him. Bo Nui replies that she doesn’t and steps off to meet her coworkers who are all terrified about the prank they’d played and are already preparing to hand in their resignation. Soo Ho wouldn’t have any of that though as he wonders if they’ve all made it a point of duty to keep attempting to hand in their resignation (he says this whilst staring at Bo Nui which is hilarious). When he tells them that they should all focus on the tasks they have to do because he has high expectations (another glance at Bo Nui. Hahahaha) and he’s counting on them all, they’re shocked and wonder if he has a screw or two lose (hahahaha).
8. Seol Hee is manipulative with a smile
Seol Hee invites Bo Nui out to lunch and apologizes for the way she’d overreacted when she heard that Soo Ho’s sick. Bo Nui apologizes right back for being sensitive as well and then Seol Hee brings out the big guns as she says she hopes Bo Nui and Gun Wook work out (why you. How dare you?!). She continues that she understands how Gun Wook feels because she’s in a similar situation as she wants to start over with Soo Ho. She tells Bo Nui that Soo Ho had told her that she was his everything (I see you’re forgetting to mention that was 10 years go huh Seol Hee?) and the same goes for her. She continues that they had each other’s backs in the past and then smiles all cheery that Bo Nui should keep it a secret because she wants to surprise everyone if it works out (what utter bullshit).
9. Soo Ho’s father causes a scene
Ryang Ha is dismayed that Soo Ho went storming Bo Nui’s house at 4am to make a confession. Figuring that that’s why she’s mad, Ryang Ha decides to teach Soo Ho the basics of dating, starting with pushing Soo Ho to get a wardrobe change and lose the shorts (but why? We like the shorts. They’re Soo Ho shorts. Hahaha). Whilst outside the Zeze building, they run into Yeong Il, unaware that Soo Ho’s father is watching it all happen. Looking at the two of them, Ryang Ha points out that they look so much alike that they could be father and son. The words get to Soo Ho’s father who is distracted and doesn’t watch where he’s going, and Yeong Il crashes into him. Yeong Il is very apologetic, but seeing Yeong Il up close has Soo Ho’s father even more flustered. He does however, collect the chicken shop flier Yeong Il insists he takes so he can call him should anything go wrong. Done with the shopping, and grumbling that Soo Ho still chose a shorts suit (hahaha. You can’t get rid of the shorts Ryang Ha. They’re what make Soo Ho, Soo Ho), Ryang Ha coaches Soo Ho on the next part of the plan which is to ask Bo Nui to come meet him at a restaurant he’s booked. Soo ho does so and according to Ryang Ha’s tutoring doesn’t give Bo Nui a chance to say no. He is still surprised though when Bo Nui readily agrees. Bo Nui’s on her way to their date when she sees a ruckus being made in Young Il’s store. She’s even more surprised to see that it’s Soo Ho’s dad who is making a mess and claiming loudly that he is Soo Ho’s father and not Yeong Il. He continues to toss things around and when Yeong Il recognizes him as one of the men in Soo Ho’s mother’s neighborhood, Soo Ho’s father calls him the genius from Seoul who he doesn’t know what he’d done to Soo Ho’s mother. He then proceeds to keep tossing things around and then mocks Yeong Il when he notices some machine parts in a box, asking if the man is dreaming of being an engineer now. Soo Ho meanwhile is at their agreed location and is surprised when Bo Nui calls. He rushes to the shop where his father’s passed out and as he apologizes and tries to get his father off the floor, his father wakes and starts to shout that even if the world comes to an end, the genius would still be his son. As they get outside, Soo Ho’s mother comes running in and Soo Ho has her take his father home. When Yeong Il suggests that Soo Ho leaves, Soo Ho insists on staying around and cleaning up the mess to make up for his father’s behavior.
10. The kiss
Bo Nui joins Soo Ho in cleaning up, and even him telling her to leave isn’t enough to dissuade her. Bo Nui tries to mend the situation by explaining to Soo Ho that his father and Yeong Il had gotten into an accident and so she believes that his father might have misinterpreted the situation, thus his reaction. Soo Ho though doesn’t think anything can justify what his father did (and I quite agree with him on that). After he’s done with the cleaning, Soo Ho makes to toss out the garbage whilst Bo Nui tries to grab the bag from him so she can help out. In their tussle, Soo Ho falls flat on his ass and Bo Nui laughs. She bends down to ask him if he’s alright and Soo Ho asks her to forget everything that’s just happened, everything his father did and all the embarrassing things that have occurred. Bo Nui replies that she’s not going to forget anything. She’s not going to forget how considerate Soo Ho was of her in that moment and how he tried to make up for what his father had done and so she doesn’t want Soo Ho to be embarrassed. When she makes to leave, Soo Hoo asks her if she can keep doing that for him because he knows he won’t be embarrassed about his weaknesses or his parents in front of her. When Bo Nui explains that Bo Ra comes first for her, Soo Ho replies that she can protect Bo Ra while he will protect her (Gah. Soo Ho!!!!). He then brings out a lucky tiger charm he had made especially for her and tells her to turn around so he can put it on her. When she just continues to stare at him, he apologizes for choosing a garbage area as the spot to hand it over to her (Gah! Too cute). Bo Nui tells him that she can’t accept the necklace because to her, Soo Ho’s her boss and nothing else. She adds that that was what she’d been planning on telling him at their meeting. Bo Nui then walks away but she doesn’t get very far before Soo Ho runs to come meet her. He reminds her of the night she’d told him she doesn’t hate him and Bo Nui replies that she didn’t says she likes him either. Plus he’d been sick and she was returning the favor from all those times he’d helped her. She states that she regrets staying then because she’d missed Gun Wook’s broadcast because of Soo Ho (Oh Bo Nui. You’re making a mess of this aren’t you?). She adds that for Soo Ho, it’s either go or stop and right now she wants him to stop. Soo Ho then tells her that he would ask her for one last time and would never ask her again: does she or doesn’t she like him? Bo Nui replies that he called her a bug and she wants him to catch the bug and kill it. She walks away again but Soo Ho catches up to her. When he spins her around and sees that she’s crying, he pulls her to him and gently kisses her (awwwww. So much better than you guys first kiss I must say). As he pulls away, he whispers if that’s what he’s supposed to do (triple swoon. Soo Ho, you slay me), and then he leans in for an even better kiss.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
I know, I know, why am I putting adorable Gun Wook? Well, because at the moment, he’s being an adorable brat. I understand that he and Bo Nui grew up together and I understand that he believes they have some sort of bond. But it doesn’t mean that Bo Nui owes him anything. He’s not her boyfriend and he’s not her father so him coming from that place of “what were you doing”, “who were you with”, “was Soo Ho dying”, feels wrong to me. Because Bo Nui is a caregiver and if his idiotic head doesn’t realize that, doesn’t see that she cares for everyone around her and so cannot be expected to abandon an ill Soo Ho, can’t see that Bo Nui would be with someone’s who’s ill (which to her is like an ill Bo Ra needing someone to watch over her) over someone that’s healthy, then he deserves a slap so he can see things in perspective and better understand her. Just saying.
Headache inducing moment:
Because I could see it coming; see that Seol Hee was going to do something that Bo Nui would interpret as something else, without staying till the very end to see Soo Ho reject Seol Hee. Nothing gets to me like the misunderstanding that arises because a female lead thinks the second lead making a play, means the male lead has accepted the second lead. Like, ugh!
This episode’s a First Kiss Punch. It’s sweet and pretty and because in my head, the vomit kiss never happened, this kiss is our lead’s first with each other and it’s all the more sweeter because Soo Ho keeps putting himself out there and the man who sometimes doesn’t get social cues, knew what was the right thing to do to comfort a woman who actually doesn’t want to send him away. It’s perfect.
