A life lived with love is infinitely better than one lived with fear and just might lead to our lead’s happy ending. Tae Jin strikes back and it’s brutal in scale, especially because he has the support of Chairman Jang. Do Kyung’s mother realizes there’s yet another Hae Young in her son’s life and transfers the blame on her. The two Hae Young’s make up. Hae Young confronts Tae Jin and Do Kyung finally says the magic words.
Top 10 Moments:
- Scary Mornings
After spending both their nights dealing with the pain Do Kyung suffered at the hands of Tae Jin, morning has Do Kyung all ready to go pick Hae Young up at her house and he sends her a message to that effect. She replies all cheerful that she’s touched although there’s no smile on her face when we see her, as she still can’t get over Do Kyung’s pain. She brushes herself up anyway and makes to get ready. Do Kyung, so focused on getting to Hae Young’s on time doesn’t notice till Hae Young sneaks up on him and surprise-scares him. He flinches and immediately goes down (hahahaha. It’s funny but sad because we all know he’s like that because he’s afraid of dying), causing Hae Young to worry as she now wonders if maybe she scared him just a little too much. Do Kyung doesn’t stay down for long though and rises. Soon, they’re both back to their lovey dovey ways with Do Kyung thanking Hae Young for falling in love in first sight with him and then putting in all her efforts to make sure he ended up with her. As he opens the car door for her to get in, she smiles, happy at the action. Meanwhile, Jin Sang is in his room, feeling all sorts of uncomfortable with the kiss he’d leveled on Soo Kyung the previous night. Suddenly movement beneath his covers has him begging Soo Kyung not to ‘do this’, only for Hoon to pop out, scaring him, even as Hoon laughs and tells him that he saw him kissing Soo Kyung. Hoon is all up for having a brother-in-law who is a lawyer, although the words do nothing but annoy Jin Sang and he tells Hoon that you don’t marry every woman you kiss, otherwise Jin Sang himself would have been married a million times. He tells Hoon to stop trying to complicate matters for him because he’s already trying to be rational and logical and trying to think his way out of the mess he’s now found himself. When he tells Hoon that further pressure might just have him drowning himself in a bowl of water, Hoon makes to calm him down whilst unknown to the both of them, Soo Kyung is outside the door, listening in on the conversation. Soo Kyung finally barges in, asks Hoon to get out of the room, and tells Jin Sang that drowning himself in a bowl of water is improbable. She tells him to let her know when he’s made his decision as she has made hers and walks away from a wailing Jin Sang saying that he doesn’t know how to make the decision himself and so someone should help him reach one.
2. Some psychologists are so smart & Do Kyung is so sweet
Seeing that Do Kyung is still having visions of himself dying (And seriously writer-nim. When will you put us out of our misery and just get through with this huh? This whole Do Kyung dying feels like we’re hanging by a thread), Doc suggests to Do Kyung that he should explain everything to Hae Young and then suggest to her that seeing that Tae Jin is out to kill him, they should pretend to be broken up, just so Tae Jin wouldn’t be so angry and try to kill him (wait what? Seriously Doc!). Thankfully, Doc’s sunbae is there to talk some sense into the situation as he reminds them all that in the original vision, Do Kyung and Hae Young were already broken up and Tae Jin tried to him anyway. After having Doc excuse them, Doc’s sunbae asks Do Kyung how he’s feeling. When Do Kyung explains that he’s feeling at ease, Doc’s sunbae states that that means he’s on the right path. He goes on to say that Do Kyung’s current situation is a consequence of his past actions, so he’s facing the consequences of neglecting his actions out of fear and anxiety. He tells him that the circumstances will all repeat themselves until Do Kyung turns to love (wait, so basically love conquers all? You sure there Doc because Tae Jin looks mighty pissed to me, and love seems to be enraging him even further). He explains that once Do Kyung turns to love because he’s learned everything he’s supposed to, then all those similar scenarios will organically delete themselves from his life scenario, which is why Do Kyung’s scenario is changing. When he asks if Do Kyung has noticed the scenario changing, Do Kyung flashes back to all those instances when he’d said something other than what he’d said in his vision and how that had led to him making up with Hae Young. Doc’s sunbae concludes that if Do Kyung turns to fear at any point, then his scenario wouldn’t change and so Do Kyung should just relax and go all the way. He then adds that he too is curious about the ending (trust me Doc. So are we). With the affirmation he’s received from Doc’s sunbae, Do Kyung visits a florist and gets a bouquet which he brings to Hae Young’s office. Other Hae Young spots him and expresses surprise at the flowers, and Do Kyung’s bruised face. She also adds that Do Kyung used to say that he hated women who cried and yet Hae Young cries a lot, but that she knows that a woman as fearlessly honest and who can love him as passionately and shamelessly as Hae Young is perfect for him (awww. You’re definitely getting sweeter there other Hae Young). She offers him her congrats and Do Kyung drops the bouquet on Hae Young’s table whilst she isn’t there and smiles to see her joking with her colleagues. When Hae Young gets to her desk, she’s surprised to see the bouquet and wonders if her heart should flutter because they’re hers or if they belong to other Hae Young. She says though that the flowers feel like they belong to her (hahahaha) and when Do Kyung texts her that he dropped the flowers off, she’s positively delighted and squeals that it’s hers, whilst Do Kyung ask if he’s not better than the star she liked when she was in school. She squeals that he definitely is and turns around in her chair, holding out her bouquet until she bumps her leg on the edge of her desk (hahahaha. Never change drama queen Hae Young. Never change).
3. Chairman Jang urges Tae Jin on although shady partner tries to caution him
Tae Jin meets with Chairman Jang who he informs that Do Kyung’s studio would be seized by that day or the very next day. Chairman Jang wonders though if that would be all; if Tae Jin doesn’t have anything else planned (why I ought to punch this asshole in the face myself!). When he asks if Tae Jin is only taking a building from Do Kyung, Tae Jin explains that Do Kyung’s house isn’t on the market yet. Chairman Jang though says that Tae Jin is really cool after losing so much and so he doesn’t think he needs to feel sorry for him anymore. He adds that if he hadn’t taken out his investment after just listening to Do Kyung, Tae Jin would still be driving a nice car and would have a chauffeur to boot (Gosh this man is scum. Utter scum!). He tells Tae Jin that he felt sorry because he’d thought it was his fault, but if Tae Jin thinks he’s done enough, then it’s all good (see why you’re such an idiot Tae Jin. You’re always getting advice from the wrongest people. Like dude, don’t you have any friends you can actually talk to?). When Tae Jin says he will look into what more he can do, Chairman Jang tells him that as a man, Tae Jin needs to do more than jab at the other man, he has to knock the man down completely. Tae Jin takes the advise to heart and leaves, although he does notice an extra pair of shoes at the door. Turns out shady partner was actually in the room and had gone hiding the minute Tae Jin had showed up. Now that Tae Jin’s gone, he steps into the room and Chairman Jang tells him clearly that he didn’t take out his investments because of shady partner’s shady dealings but because Do Kyung told him to (all this because Do Kyung told your bratty daughter the truth and demanded that she apologize for insulting his mother? You’re a real piece of work Chairman Jang). Later that night, Tae Jin meets with shady business partner for drinks (like seriously Tae Jin. Quit with the alcohol abuse. It’s obviously messing with your ability to think). Drunk off his ass, he admits that he doesn’t feel excited with all the trouble he’s causing because everything is going so smoothly for him, due to someone else helping him along. Shady business partner asks how anyone can feel excited about ruining someone else’s life (wow. Shady business partner speaks sense) and tells Tae Jin to quit if it bothers him. Tae Jin still thinks it’s all about him though, stating that everyone who matters know that he went to prison because of Do Kyung and that when he got out, Do Kyung ‘took’ his woman. And so he feels that everyone is waiting for him to retaliate (no one is Tae Jin. It would surprise you but no one cares for your paltry life. They have better things to do with their time, unless they’re Chairman Jang who is using you for entertainment) and he wants to put it to a vote as to what he’s to do. Shady business partner votes for Tae Jin stopping right there (you know Tae Jin has gone off the rails when you’re screaming at him to listen to shady business partner).
4. Hae Young is just like her mother and Mama Oh is awesomely supportive
Hae Young runs into the house searching for ingredients to use to make a meal. She’s short one ingredient though and complains to her mother that they’ve run out. Mama Oh doesn’t say anything. She just takes off her apron and walks away whilst Hae Young gets to cooking. As Mama Oh walks, she tells us that on May 22, 1985, a baby girl was born in the town, with her first name being crazy and her last name being bitch (hahaha. Crazy Bitch. Your mother nicknamed you well Hae Young), and Mama Oh hated her because the girl took after her. But at the same time, she loved her because she took after her. As Mama Oh pays for the item she’s bought, she wonders why people with such big hearts live such sad lives. She states that because of that big heart, the crazy girl will experience all the hardships that Mama Oh herself has been through and that’s why she hates her and why she loves her as well. As she walks back home, she states that she used to get upset at this crazy girl who would bring home the very same can she’d spent all day kicking around, but then she also found it adorable. Mama Oh gives the missing ingredient to a delighted Hae Young who is hard at work chopping vegetables and Mama Oh makes to clear the sink. But she stops and looks back at Hae Young and states that she doesn’t know why it tears her up to see the crazy girl who is pouring out her heart after falling heads over heels in love with Do Kyung. She wonders if she would feel less sad if she takes the crazy girl’s side and cheers her on instead of discouraging and shutting her down. And so we see Mama Oh and Papa Oh, helping Hae Young make her rice balls for Do Kyung, all the while Mama Oh wonders if she would feel less sad if there was someone in Hae Young’s corner, cheering her on, and states that that’s why she’s at the moment, sitting beside Hae Young and helping her (awwww. Mama Oh is jjang).
5. Anna and Hee Ran meet and Jin Sang is all about enduring
Hoon invites Anna over to the studio where she assists him in recording sounds for a drama (Jung Yumi’s I Need Romance 2. Cute. I’m sure Eric had a great time seeing his former co-star up on screen). The two of them have a magical time and have lots of fun, except when they step out of the studio, they run into Hee Ran who Anna figures as the woman who was trying to seduce Hoon. Hoon immediately feigns a phone call and leaves Anna and Hee Ran to battle it out with their words, with Hee Ran stating that she has no interest in Hoon and Anna stating that with the way she’s protesting, there must be some interest there. She adds though that Hee Ran strikes her as being a professional who wouldn’t engage in such and volunteers that Hee Ran and Hoon can work on his screenplay in the coffeeshop she works at if Hee Ran doesn’t think she can trust herself. Hee Ran though simply tells Hoon that he has a nice girlfriend and walks away. Meanwhile, Jin Sang is all mopey as he tries not to go home to Soo Kyung. He ends up finding a street corner and lights a cigarette, not knowing that Soo Kyung is watching him. Soo Kyung remembers the first time she’d seen him smoke: when he’d failed his bar exams and had been drafted into the military for his 2 year service. He’d been discouraged at the thought of him having to wait two more years when he will not be as smart, to take the bar exams again but had soldiered up as he told her that men have things they must do even if they don’t want to, and so he would endure, and smoke this one cigarette to make himself feel better. As she watches him smoke and realizes that he thinks life with her is something to be endured like a man, Soo Kyung walks away, sad.
6. Do Kyung’s studio gets repossessed
Whilst hanging out with Hae Young, Do Kyung gets a message from Tae Jin informing him that his peaceful days are over. So he’s not surprised when the very next day, debt collectors show up as start slamming repo papers all over his equipment and his studio. His sound crew though are surprised, shocked and pissed and come storming to Do Kyung’s office for an explanation. Do Kyung though wouldn’t have any of that and orders them out of his office where a furious Hoon puts the pieces together in his head. Do Kyung in the meanwhile is on the phone with another sound director who he’s trying to convince to employ all four of his boys, telling him that they’re very good at what they do and he adds his sound equipment to the deal so the director wouldn’t give his boys a pay-cut (awwww. Do Kyung. Even when everything is crumbling around you, you still put your boys first). Do Kyung’s mother comes running in and looks around, stunned at everything that’s going on. Hoon looking at her with so much anger states aloud that she’s the one responsible. Do Kyung’s mother can’t do anything but look around stunned. She does however go to the loan shark she owes the debt to wail at him for not trusting that she would pay it back on time. The man though informs her that the man who’s pissed at her son because he ruined his business and sent him to prison over Oh Hae Young is the one who bought the debt. Do Kyung’s mother looks frustrated at the news. Jin Sang hears of the news and is surprised at Tae Jin’s behavior. When he tries to talk to Do Kyung about appealing the decision to buy themselves some time to raise the money, Do Kyung tells him to leave the matter as he figures that he deserves that much for what he did to Tae Jin (no you don’t. Telling Chairman Jang to withdraw money from an investment wouldn’t necessarily have ruined the business as opposed to Tae Jin purposefully setting out to ruin you. There’s a big difference. Stop encouraging the guy). When Jin Sang blames himself for egging Do Kyung on and causing all this mess, Do Kyung smiles as he says that if all that hadn’t happened, then he wouldn’t have met Hae Young (awwww. Talk about love). The sound crew members all head out for drinks with Do Kyung and when he mentions getting them all jobs with another production house, they’re not thrilled as the person they actually want to work with, the person they admire, is Do Kyung. Soon they’re all teasing each other and Tae Jin who’s passing by sees Do Kyung smiling and is pissed that Do Kyung doesn’t look like his world is falling around him (it’s because he’s happy buster. He’s happy and in love). He waves at Do Kyung whose smile drops when he sees him, then walks into the bar and pays for the sound crew’s drinks and more, smiling as he says that he doesn’t think they have enough money (not now anyway. But when Do Kyung finally gets over the whole not dying bit, I’m sure he will be right back on his feet in no time. Talent like that can’t go to waste).
7. Do Kyung’s mother is a real bitch and other Hae Young is an unexpected ally
Unaware of what her boyfriend is going through, Hae Young finally has lunch with other Hae Young, to thank her for keeping her love note these past 13 years. Other Hae Young teases her about carrying the letter everywhere she goes and they both laugh. Hae Young then apologizes to other Hae Young for hating her when other Hae Young hadn’t done anything wrong to her. She admits that she sees now that the fault lies with the boys who praised other Hae Young and put Hae Young down. Other Hae Young smiles as she says that they would have been friends if they’d had different names to which Hae Young says that would have been impossible as pretty girls are only friends with other pretty friends (and what are you? Chopped liver?). Other Hae Young simply snorts as she tells Hae Young that she’s very pretty (tell her other Hae Young). They finish lunch in good spirits and are walking down the street when Do Kyung’s mother attacks other Hae Young screaming that it’s all her fault that the man she almost married is trying to ruin Do Kyung. Hae Young interrupts the beating to state that she’s the one who’s currently dating Do Kyung. Away from the street and in a cafe, Do Kyung’s mother gets caught up to speed and Do Kyung’s mother being the class A bitch that she is begins to diss Hae Young, wondering what Do Kyung sees in her when she’s not particularly pretty, not particularly bright and not particularly rich (at least she loves him. Which is more than can be said for you mother dearest). She tells Hae Young that Hae Young is playing out of her league and she should just go back to the man she almost married so that everything can be restored to the way it was. When Hae Young says nothing, just continues to look meek and quiet, Do Kyung’s mother snaps at her for not responding and tells her that if she really cares for Do Kyung, then she should get out of his life (no! Don’t listen to that woman’s drivel Hae Young. She’s poison. Pure and utter poison), rather than just sit there and watch Do Kyung die. She tells Hae Young that even if the man says it’s okay for the woman to stay by his side because he loves her, the woman should be wise enough to say goodbye to him first (so why not take your own advise mother dearest and say goodbye to your kids. You’re obviously not doing them any favors). She tells Hae Young to call Tae Jin, tell him that she broke up with Do Kyung and agree to go back to him. With those words of ‘wisdom’ she stomps off, only to run into other Hae Young who has been waiting outside the cafe and who tells her that she should stop and reminds her that other sons would have left her ages ago, but Do Kyung still stays with her because he’s kind. Do Kyung’s mother turns it around and blames other Hae Young for the troubles but other Hae Young points out that Do Kyung’s mother is partly to blame as well. Do Kyung’s mother says nothing, just stomps off, muttering to herself about needing an exorcism because they’re just too many Hae Young’s around (you might also want to exorcise the demon in yourself as well, thou witch of a mother).
8. Soo Kyung says goodbye to Jin Sang
When Jin Sang gets home, it’s to find Soo Kyung waiting for him. When he tries to buy himself some more time till the next day to come to his decision, Soo Kyung tells him to sit down as she’s come to a decision. She tells him that couples who have slept together once, will sleep with each other again, but in their own case, they haven’t had sex again since their drunken night which she takes to mean that they don’t have a shot at being together. She agrees that she can’t think of sleeping with him again either and tells him to go back to his own place because it won’t work. As she escorts him outside the house, she tells him that she’s only seen him smoke twice in his life: the first being when he had been drafted and the second being the previous day. She points out that this isn’t something he has to force himself to do because he’s a man (awwww. Soo Kyung. Ever the big sister) and tells him that it’s okay as she was already planning on raising the baby without telling him, but he found out anyway and so there’s no need for him to feel pressured at all. When Jin Sang calls her name, she tells him that they’ve been family for years and can’t be expected to turn into a couple over what happened that night. She tells him that she releases him from all responsibility and tells him to leave. When Jin Sang hesitates, she pushes and prods him till he leaves and Jin Sang marches on like she tells him to, only to break down in tears when he’s out of sight (awwwwww).
9. Hae Young speaks some hard truths to Tae Jin
When Tae Jin gets back to his apartment, it’s to find Hae Young waiting for him outside the door. She tells him that she has something to say to him and when he tells her to come inside, she insists on staying outside, even when he wonders if she thinks he would attack her whilst she’s inside the room. Tae Jin though insists on her entering, so she does. Inside, she starts by talking about the day before the wedding when Tae Jin had found the harshest words he could to break up with her. She tells him that hearing the words had made her want to kill herself and she’d found it difficult to even open her eyes the next morning and she’d wanted to kill herself and had wanted it to look accidental so Tae Jin wouldn’t have come to tell the truth at her funeral, thus making her feel humiliated even in death. And so, she’d tried everything she could in order to stay alive, even with the fear that someone would find out the truth, even though she had to pretend as if nothing had happened. She tells him that she couldn’t breathe and had to force herself to breathe, and now Tae Jin is telling her that he did that for her? At that point, Tae Jin who had stayed quiet through her entire speech turns around to say that Hae Young would have waited for him. Hae Young admits that yes, she would have. Tae Jin then says she would have gotten tired of waiting and Hae Young asks why he didn’t let her get tired of waiting, instead of making her wish for death. Tae Jin tells her that he didn’t want to put her through a lot and pressure her and Hae Young throws back that he didn’t want to pressure her and yet he hurt her so badly? She asks if he calls that love, when he chose to hurt her instead of pressuring her. She asks if that’s what men classify as love and wonders where they learned how to love. She asks him what he thinks would be harder for a woman: to get dumped the day before her wedding or to have to wait for her man. She asks him to think about it and then admits that she’d felt relieved when she’d heard that he was in prison as it made her think that she wasn’t such an undesirable woman. She tells him not to think he’s taking his revenge on Do Kyung saying Do Kyung took away the woman he loved because he never loved her. She tells him that when she was hurting badly, Do Kyung took care of her and she’s alive today because of him. Tae Jin snaps at her to come to her senses: Do Kyung did all that because of what he did, not because he liked her. Hae Young though doesn’t care as she tells him that it was because of Do Kyung that she was able to survive. She admits that she fell for Do Kyung first and begged him to like her back. She admits to telling Do Kyung that it was okay even after learning that he was the one who ruined Tae Jin’s business. Tae Jin looks at her with tears in his eyes as he calls her crazy. He then asks what she’s doing there and Hae Young tells him that he can ruin Do Kyung’s business and make him penniless but she’s begging him not to hit Do Kyung as him doing that, breaks her heart. Tae Jin replies that she’s making him a loser and Hae Young apologizes but begs him. With that said, she walks away leaving Tae Jin to mutter that she shouldn’t have come that day (please tell me it’s because he had initially planned something bad for Do Kyung and now her words have changed his mind)
10. Do Kyung finally says the magic words
With his boys now a drunken mess and crying about how much they would miss him, Do Kyung smiles then gets off the seat when he notices that it’s started to rain. He runs out and heads straight to Hae Young’s office where he waits, umbrellas in hand, for her to come out through the door. When he sends her a text message, telling her that he’s waiting outside for her, Hae Young smiles and tells the cab driver to drop her off at the rear door entrance, except, as she passes by the front of the office, she spots Do Kyung standing there (hahahaha. Busted). He doesn’t see her though so she begs the guard at the rear entrance to let her into the office. Although he initially tells her to use the front door, he eventually relents and so Hae Young is able to walk out of the building like she’s just leaving the office and Do Kyung is none the wiser. Do Kyung hands her one umbrella and rushes into the rain beneath the other. Hae Young grumbles and mutters that he brought two umbrellas instead of just bringing one but Do Kyung’s focus is on an elderly man caught in the rain without an umbrella. He runs over to the old man and hands him his umbrella then runs under Hae Young’s red umbrella (awwww. How romantic). Soon, they’re both walking hand in hand, but Hae Young wouldn’t stop harping about the fact that Do Kyung brought two umbrellas to begin with (hahaha), and Do Kyung has to tell her to quit talking for a moment as he has something to say. When she finally tries to catch her breath, he tells her “I love you” (awwww. Do Kyung, you slay me. Every single time). They smile at each other and as they resume their walk, Hae Young says to herself that the end of their story is a happy ending, whilst Do Kyung says they should stay happy just a little bit longer.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
Because this bitch has the audacity to look down on Hae Young and claim that should Hae Young actually love Do Kyung, then she should think of the best thing for him and leave him. Bitch, you think of what’s the best thing for him and get the fuck out of his life. You do not even have the right to call yourself his mother. Argh!!!!!
Headache inducing moment:
Because I could see that Tae Jin, the idiot is actually considering Chairman Jang’s words, meaning he’s allowing himself to be used for Chairman Jang’s entertainment and should anything actually go wrong, Tae Jin would be the one to be blamed and Chairman Jang will walk away smelling like roses. Like seriously dude, don’t do this to yourself.
This episode’s a Cinnamon Sour, fragrant and sweet, but with depth and just that tang we all get when we try to deal with all the suffering Do Kyung is going through and how justified he feels with the hurt. And although the unpleasantness of Chairman Jang and Do Kyung’s mum leaves us feeling sour, we round off with the sweetness of Do Kyung in love and admitting his love.
