Sometimes having the very thing you believe in taken from you, can make it seem like all hope is lost. Soo Ho tries and fails to get Bo Nui to see beyond the superstition. Seol Hee finally lets us and Soo Ho know what happened years ago and Bo Nui says her goodbyes.
Top 10 Moments:
- Gun Wook has an overactive imagination
Whilst Gun Wook stays at the bus stop in the pouring rain, umbrella by his side, waiting for Bo Nui to come back home, he remembers Bo Nui telling him that she has to sleep with a tiger and imagines her having sexy times with Soo Ho. Except, reality is the exact opposite of his imagination as Bo Nui simply turns around the minute she spots Soo Ho looking in on Bo Ra and tells the nurse to keep an eye on her sister for her. That done, she walks straight into the pouring rain, walking till a blue umbrella suddenly keeps her from the rain. She turns and sees a drenched Soo Ho holding out an umbrella over her head. When he tells her to just think of him as an utility pole, a walking talking, umbrella holding utility pole, she says nothing, just continues walking till she gets to a bar and goes in. Soo Ho wondering what’s going on with her goes in with her. Bo Nui however is just content to drink the night away, and when one of the sleazy drunks approaches her, she warns him that she has bad luck and should he stay around her, he would die, but if he was born in the year of the tiger (Again? Bo Nui, seriously?!), then she is okay with a one night stand. When the man makes to get her to join his party, Soo Ho drags him out and chases the man away when he mentions the guy’s company ID still hanging around his neck and his wedding ring. When Soo Ho gets back to the bar, he points out to Bo Nui that Bo Ra’s not dead, but Bo Nui’s focus is on the fact that Bo Ra hasn’t woken up yet and she stalks out, back into the rain. When Soo Ho catches up to her, she screams at him to stop interfering with her life, but Soo Ho asks her what she would have done if she’d been recorded. Bo Nui, not grateful for the help screams that and so what if she’d been recorded (seriously Bo Nui? Seriously?), at least then she would have been able to save her sister. The words has Soo Ho grabbing her hand and leading her to fulfill her wish before the sun rises, since he is after all a tiger (roar?).
2. The talk about belief
Whilst Gun Wook is telling Seol Hee that Bo Nui isn’t his type (yeah right, keep telling yourself that bucko), and so he’s not jealous, and Seol Hee telling him that Bo Nui is probably with her boyfriend, Bo Nui is at the moment with Soo Ho (the one we hope will become her boyfriend) whilst he lists out the logical reasons as to why he believes she should give up on her superstitions, namely the fact that she had to have her tiger before midnight and yet although she didn’t land the tiger at that specified time, her sister is still alive. Bo Nui though speaks to what she believes in that, everyone she loves, leaves. Starting with both her parents who she buried at the age of 16 and now, the only other person she has in the world, her baby sister Bo Ra who she now has to let go off. She asks what she can do, saying that she’s so scared and it’s all horrible and she’d rather die first because every day for her is like stepping on thin ice and because she doesn’t know when disaster would strike, every second is hell for her. She speaks and walks away, leaving a frustrated Soo Ho who claims to be done with it all, attempting to walk away. Except, he doesn’t walk away, but instead turns around, and after a conversation with Bo Nui explaining that she doesn’t want to go home where she’s always reminded of Bo Ra, piggybacks her to his house (awwww).
3. Soo Ho the perfect caregiver
After taking Bo Nui to his house, Soo Ho starts running through a list of things he needs to make her sleeping self comfortable (which, awwwww), starting from blankets to a towel to pillows. He’s just about to set out to making Bo Nui comfortable when he receives a call from Ryang Ha stating that his employees were planning on paying Soo Ho a surprise visit at his house. Looking back at the sleeping Bo Nui, he exclaims that they can’t and begs Ryang Ha to make sure that they aren’t able to, adding a ‘hyung’ to sweeten the deal. The address shocks Ryang Ha sober (as expected. Hahahaha) and soon Soo Ho is moving Bo Nui’s head to a pillow so she can be more comfortable and wiping her face with a towel. As he looks at her sleeping form, he wonders at what kind of life she’s had (awwww. You’re thawing. How cute). Of course, Bo Nui is shocked when she wakes up the next morning, but everything comes back to her and she asks Soo Ho how he knew about the hospital. Soo Ho of course doesn’t give her an outright answer and Bo Nui apologizes for once again annoying, frustrating and bewildering him and promises that it would never happen again (Awwww. Why do I get the feeling that she’s sort of telling him goodbye?). She tells him that she’s thankful, bows and leaves after she tells him to be healthy, leaving behind a perplexed Soo Ho would wonders at the ominous respect she’s bestowed on him (hahahaha) and calls her a weird woman as he sets about arranging and the re-arranging his furniture (hahaha. Cute Soo Ho. Cute).
4. Everyone works through their emotions in their own way
After spending the night waiting for Bo Nui to show, Gun Wook finds himself knocking on her door the next morning, but still gets no answer. He rushes outside and scans the street, then turns happy when he sees Bo Nui. Except Bo Nui is so despondent that she at first doesn’t see him. When she sees him, she instructs him to go exercise like he’d clearly set out to do, but Gun Wook is focused on Bo Nui and if Bo Ra is alright. When she tells him Bo Ra is fine, he assumes that she’d spent the night at the hospital. When she tells him she didn’t and hushes him when he attempts to find out exactly where she’s spent the night, Gun Wook heads to a children’s playground where the kids all sit, looking at him as he uses their playground as his exercise point all the while working through the fact that even if Bo Nui is reckless, Soo Ho being Soo Ho wouldn’t have done anything (hahaha. Jealous Gun Wook is so cute), but then he distracts himself when he reminds himself that Bo Nui is pretty (you admitted it again. Hahaha) and Soo Ho is a man. At the thought he falls off his perch and lands on his butt, but then bounces right back home to worry and wonder (it’s killing you isn’t it Gun Wook. Hahaha). Whilst Gun Wook is distracting himself with exercise, Ryang Ha is teasing Dal Nim for the way she works through her own emotions: by writing in her diary. A diary that Ryang Ha had discovered the previous night whilst they’d all been drinking and filled with her praise and poetry for Soo Ho (hahahaha). When Dal Nim finally manages to get her diary back and escape, Ryang Ha wonders at Soo Ho, the hot commodity that all the woman want.
5. Soo Ho and Gun Wook have a pissing contest
Whilst Bo Nui is away from the office, trying to get across to the Shaman whose door sign says he’s gone to pray, Soo Ho spends the morning waiting for her to show up at work, wondering if maybe she’s fainted somewhere. Just as he gets to the elevators, ready to go bring her into work himself, Gun Wook shows up, cap hiding his face as he asks Soo Ho where he was the previous night and if he was with Bo Nui by any chance. He insists that he is of course coming from a place of a brother concerned about his big sister to which Soo Ho tells him to ask his big sister then because Soo Ho is not in the habit of sharing his employees personal life with outsiders. When Gun Wook tries to bring up the matter of Bo Nui’s superstitions, Soo Ho tells him that he’s aware that it’s because of Bo Ra. When Gun Wook sneers at Soo Ho saying that they (they being himself and Bo Nui) will handle whatever happens between themselves, Soo Ho calls him out for meddling in his ‘sister’s’ affairs (hahaha), basically calling Gun Wook a punk. With that done, he walks away with a smile on his face (Gah Soo Ho! Why so cute?). Except, his smile slips off when he asks Ryang Ha what it means when someone tells him to stay healthy. Ryang Ha laughing at the fact that Soo Ho’s gotten dumped earns him a kick in the shins and has Soo Ho pushing him out of his office (hahahaha).
6. Soo Ho’s mother has an oppa, but something’s off with him
After recognizing the chicken seller Ahjusshi and then getting his restaurant off the bike he was driving the day she first saw him, Soo Hoo’s mother preps and preens in front of a mirror till she’s certain she looks good for her age and approaches the restaurant, calling out oppa in a sickening sweet voice when chicken Ahjusshi spots her. Soon they’re sitting down and having drinks with her explaining to chicken Ahjusshi that her son owns Zeze factory. Chicken Ahjusshi acts surprised (although I wonder how surprised he is considering that in the first episode where Soo Ho fainted, he was there at the conference looking at him with a not so friendly expression) and says delightedly that quite a lot of Zeze staff come to him to get some food. When Soo Ho’s mother asks about his children, he replies that he and his wife split after his business failed and he regretfully has no kids (hmmmm. Why do I have the feeling that he’s Gun Wook’s runaway father?)
7. Seol Hee lets us in on what happened
When Bo Nui finally makes it to the office, Soo Ho, who first takes the time to preen using his phone as a mirror (hahahaha. Cute) is just about to talk to her when Seol Hee interrupts (Argh! Girl, you have the worst timing) and invites him out to the promised tea. While they’re having the tea on a bench, we see in flashback that Seol Hee had been sleeping when Soo Ho had happened on her in the library and helped her complete her assignment, then disappeared just moments before she woke up. Present Seol Hee explains that she didn’t run away from Soo Ho but was instead running away from herself. And she didn’t approach Soo Ho because of she needed help with her thesis but because she wanted to see who her father chose over her brother. Turns out her brother although not as brilliant as Soo Ho, but still a prodigy in his own right, had gotten into an accident and left her family shattered, placing the burden of being a physicist on her, even though she had no aptitude for it. She does add though that she never submitted the thesis Soo Ho did for her, but Soo Ho never knew that because he had returned to Korea. She adds that she would like him to understand her 2004 self, even if he doesn’t forgive said self. But Soo Ho tells her that it was 2005, not 2004 and walks away. Seol Hee still considers it a victory though and cheers when she gets to her office. And Dal Nim walking in moments later with an ID pass from Soo Ho for Seol Hee makes her cheer even more (doesn’t mean he’s still going to end up with you so there).
8. Soo Ho’s experiment fails spectacularly
After realizing that Bo Nui is slowly turning the Zeze office into a superstitious den, with everyone having all sort of items on their desks to ward off evil (hahaha), Soo Ho goes to confront Bo Nui about the whole mess and walks in on her instructing a colleague on the “IF” game. When they’re excused, Bo Nui tries to speak but Soo Ho cuts her off, insisting that he doesn’t want to hear a word of her resigning if that’s what she has planned. He wonders how she can still stand to believe in superstitions considering the outing he’d taken her on, all for the sole purpose of discounting her superstitious beliefs to which Bo Nui just tells him to leave her to her superstitions, because she won’t clip her nails at night or even write her name with red ink for fear of the bad luck it would bring. That startles Soo Ho would decides to disprove her theory by writing her name, his name and even his father’s name in red ink. He tells her that nothing would happen but Bo Nui snaps at him that how would he feel if he discovers that he caused his parents’ death. That stops Soo Ho in his tracks as he wonders if Bo Nui believes she caused her parents’ death. Bo Nui doesn’t answer, but just tells him to be careful and then she walks away. Over at his parents’ house, Soo Ho’s father slips and falls. His mother ends up calling Bo Nui after she isn’t able to reach Soo Ho, and Bo Nui, feeling guilty that it was the writing in ink deed that had most likely caused the accident follows. Thankfully Soo Ho’s father is alive, just with a mild concussion, and soon enough Bo Nui is eating with Soo Ho’s parents and explaining how Soo Ho is a cool boss who looks out for his employees wellbeing. She does add that she’s planning on leaving Zeze soon though and Soo Ho’s mother expresses the disappointment we all feel that she has to leave.
9. Bo Nui says her goodbyes
Soo Ho spends his night imaging that Bo Nui’s still in his house, whilst Bo Nui spends her night imaging that Bo Ra is still up and about, teasing her for looking serious and wanting to eat out. The next morning, Soo Ho is shocked to get to the office and find Bo Nui’s desk empty. He’s even more surprised when his employees tell him that Bo Nui had cleared her stuff and then told them all to stay healthy. When Soo Ho had noticed that Dal Nim wasn’t at her desk either and had asked where Dal Nim was at, he’s informed that Dal Nim was with Bo Nui who had asked her to help her pack. Dal Nim on the other hand is now at Bo Nui’s apartment and is surprised at the fact because Bo Nui had always made it a thing of duty to keep Dal Nim from entering her house (awww Dal Nim. She’s telling you goodbye as well). As they eat the meal Bo Nui had prepared, Dal Nim wonders why Bo Nui’s leaving and asks if Soo Ho had anything to do with it. Bo Nui replies that he has nothing to do with her leaving, but hands Dal Nim an envelope to pass on to Soo Ho on her behalf. Dal Nim does just that and when Soo Ho asks if Bo Nui said anything to her, admits that Bo Nui had told her to stay healthy. Bo Nui on the other hand is at the hospital and has left Gun Wook to talk to an unconscious Bo Ra, whilst she informs Bo Ra’s doctor of her decision to get Bo Ra discharged and brought home (wait what? Why does this feel like a let’s die together scenario. Please tell me they will both be okay). When the doctor leaves, Gun Wook joins her to tell her that Bo Ra looks healthy and would probably get up soon. Bo Nui folds Gun Wook into a hug and tells him that it was really nice seeing him again (not good not good). She continues by telling him to work hard and that he should cooperate fully in the development of ‘IF’. Soo Ho on the other hand opens the letter to Bo Nui apologizing for all the trouble she’s caused; a confirmation of the bad luck she carries everywhere with herself. She tells him that she’s thankful for all he’s done for her and she might not have looked it but she was apologetic for all the help he rendered. She tells him that he was the first person to hold an umbrella over her head and for the first time she didn’t feel cold in the rain. She adds that she would hold that precious memory dear to herself and finishes by telling him to stay healthy.
10. Bo Nui comes close to the sea
Soo Ho rushes out of the office, trying to catch up with Bo Nui. He’s almost delayed by annoying Dae Hae who has come to collect money for the water he’d sold Bo Nui, either from Bo Nui herself or Soo Ho as her employer. Soo Ho doesn’t have the time for all that nonsense however and runs off without answering the idiot. He rushes to Bo Nui’s house, except Bo Nui isn’t there and when Gun Wook comes out to ask why Soo Ho is all concerned for Bo Nui when she was fine just moments ago, and waiting for Bo Ra to wake up, Soo Ho snaps at him that Bo Nui isn’t fine because she’s convinced that Bo Ra would die seeing that she wasn’t able to bed a tiger that night. The two men take off looking for Bo Nui who’s at the moment watching her little sister get discharged from the hospital. She leaves immediately that is done and so Gun Wook and Soo Ho don’t see her when they arrive at the hospital to discover that Bo Ra has been discharged and Bo Nui has taken her to a place with a nice ‘view’ and sure enough we see Bo Nui by the ocean, dropping her bag as she steps towards the waves.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
Because Bo Nui is going through a crisis and this idiot is only concerned about the bottles of water he’d foisted on her and getting money from her. He hasn’t been able to reach her for days and is not concerned about what she might be going through but is instead focused on money. I really really want to smack his inconsiderate ass.
Headache inducing moment:
Because something just gets to me whenever I see this kind of goodbyes. It’s the shutting down of hope that has me praying like hell that the person is not about to make a rash decision to end it all. Gah! The anxiety and mini heart attack.
This episode’s a Sour Cherry Gin Smash; simple and filled with so much highlights and cuteness courtesy of Soo Ho not knowing what to do about his crush. But, it turns just a bit tart at the end as we wonder if Bo Nui would survive this and worry about her mental state if she does. The woman has to stop getting into this kind of life and death situations.
