Everyone has a limit of good behavior and that includes Yang Baek Hee. Baek Hee finds out the truth behind Red Socks and is predictably pissed. We and everyone else find out the truth behind the night with Jong Myung. Bum Ryong is an idiot but he ends up redeeming himself and everybody gets their happy ending.
Top 10 Moments:
- Ki Joon is still worse than slime stuck underneath a person’s shoes
With the truth now, Baek Hee explains to Bum Ryong that although the misunderstanding has been cleared, she is not willing to turn Ok Hee into the daughter of a divorcee (really? So you’re telling me you’re staying married to that slime and having Ok Hee be mentally tortured by that slime because of Ok Hee? Don’t blame your daughter for that. Hold yourself responsible). She concludes by telling Bum Ryong that there must be a reason for their misunderstanding lasting 18 years and tells him not to come by again. When Bum Ryong expresses reluctance to enter the house and get his mother because of Ki Joon, Baek Hee tells him he has nothing to worry about because her husband isn’t around. Except the very same husband is around and starts using a golf stick to poke Baek Hee, accusing her of going back to her old ways now that they’re in his house and she’s back in her home town (wait what? Dude, the house is Baek Hee. Your ass is homeless, broke and several shades of fucked up. And don’t poke her with that stick. Who the hell do you think you are?). Bum Ryong pushes the stick away from Baek Hee and tells Ki Joon that he and his mother won’t come to his house again, except Baek Hee tells Bum Ryong that he should let his mother spend the night as she would send her over to his house when she wakes up the next morning. Ki Joon laughs at the sight calling Baek Hee and Bum Ryong ridiculous. When Bum Ryong apologizes, Ki Joon tells him that if he still likes Baek Hee, Bum Ryong can marry her, but he should be aware that her old habits haven’t gone anywhere as she’s still the Red Socks girl. When Bum Ryong makes to attack him, Baek Hee slaps Bum Ryong across the face and tells him to go home and stop being rude to her husband (you have got to be kidding me. Seriously Baek Hee? Seriously? You call that thing a husband?). The move snaps Bum Ryong back to himself and soon he’s carrying his mother on his back and taking her home whilst Baek Hee cries as she looks at the pager.
2. Ok Hee kicks ass and Bum Ryong loses his mother
Morning has Ok Hee running into Ki Joon at the breakfast table. Ki Joon is of course being his annoying self as he grills Ok Hee as to what time Baek Hee left the house, the previous night. When Ok Hee simply replies that she went to bed early and so wouldn’t know, Ki Joon replies by asking what time Ok Hee went to bed. Having had enough, Ok Hee snaps at Ki Joon by telling him that if he comes up straight from work instead of gambling all night long, he would be able to know exactly what time Baek Hee left the house. As Ki Joon sputters, claiming that Ok Hee knows nothing… she cuts him off by telling him that she knows that her mother is paying off his debt, and tells him that her mother isn’t someone who runs his errands (you go Ok Hee! Tell him) and she doesn’t want her mother to live like that anymore. When Ki Joon asks her what she’s going to do about it, Ok Hee replies that Ki Joon never wanted to be a husband or a father, so she would protect her mother. When Ki Joon mutters that Ok Hee is becoming more like Baek Hee, Ok Hee asks him what’s wrong with her becoming like her mother, especially considering that now, she really likes her mum (awww, and go Ok Hee! Put that slime of a man in his place. Good for you!). Baek Hee finally gets back home and hurries Ok Hee out so they can make it to the ferry on time. Except, before Baek Hee can leave, Jang Mi comes to pay her a visit, informing her that Bum Ryong’s mother passed away the previous night. Baek Hee is of course shocked, although she’s unwilling to go to the woman’s funeral because of what the gossips would say. Jang Mi is us all, asking why Baek Hee is so scared of what people think about her, and reminds her that his friends are the only people Bum Ryong has left. Speaking of Bum Ryong, he’s at his mother’s memorial service telling Doo Shik that he’s truly an orphan now: with no parents, siblings or family members. When Bum Ryong says that he has no one, Jong Myung cuts in to remind him that he has Doo Shik and Jong Myung (Awwww). It would seem he also has Baek Hee because she ends up showing up with Jang Mi in tow. She drops her condolence offering and even stays for a meal, although it just fuels the rumor mill with everyone gossiping about her.
3. Baek Hee makes a scene at the funeral
Ok Hee comes back from school with Bo Reum (Doo Shik and Jang Mi’s daughter) and makes to keep going, except Bo Reum stops her and asks if she’s not going to pay her respects to Bum Ryong who has lost his mother. The news surprises Ok Hee and she heads home to look for an all-black outfit she can wear to the funeral. She’s still searching for what to wear when Ki Joon comes home and hears from her about Bum Ryong’s mother. He gets that look in his eyes (that I have come to loathe as much as I hate his ass) when she says she wants to attend the funeral. Baek Hee is just about to stomp off after hearing some dirty old men say that she slept with Jong Myung, Doo Shik and Bum Ryong when she sees Ok Hee coming in with Ki Joon in tow who is laughing at the trouble he’s sure would ensue. When Ok Hee makes to pay her respects to the old woman, Baek Hee wouldn’t let her, even though Ok Hee explains that she was close to the old woman. Bum Ryong, remembering how much his mother likes Ok Hee tells Ok Hee that she can come and pay her respects. Except Baek Hee wouldn’t let her to do that. When Bum Ryong frees Ok Hee from Baek Hee’s grasp so she can pay her respects, Baek Hee screams that she can’t let her daughter pay her respects to the old woman. When Bum Ryong asks her how she can be so cruel when she too is a mother, it sets off the old biddies at the funeral who start saying that Ok Hee must be Bum Ryong’s daughter, and that’s the last straw for Baek Hee who screams that Ok Hee can go on and pay her respects to her grandmother. The news startle everyone who hadn’t expected her to confirm it and soon Baek Hee is asking her daughter if she’s shocked to which Ok Hee, being very calm says she’s just a little bit shocked. Although she’d always suspected Bum Ryong of being her father because she’d liked him when they’d first met. Baek Hee clarifies to Ok Hee that she was a romantic, but she didn’t sleep around and she doesn’t want Ok Hee ashamed of her to which Ok Hee replies that she’s proud of her: for keeping a baby at 18, when she herself wouldn’t have made that choice, and she’s thankful to Baek Hee for having her and raising her.
4.Bum Ryong figures out the person who made Baek Hee’s Red Socks video
Whilst Baek Hee and Ok Hee are having their moment by the sea, Ki Joon is involved in a high stakes gambling game where he’s muttering about making enough money to win the lottery and then dumping Baek Hee, thus killing three birds with one stone. Bum Ryong who can see and hear what’s going on tries to get Jong Myung to interrupt the game and save Ki Joon from further bankruptcy, but his plan is halted by the cops showing up (ha! Gambling is illegal isn’t it?). He instead tells Ki Joon what direction to run towards and Ki Joon makes to run but falls before he can get very far. As he makes to rise, he exhibits the exact same movement the person with the camcorder that Bum Ryong had spotted at the nightclub 18 years prior made after he’d fallen down, and the puzzle slides into place for Bum Ryong. As Ki Joon stops in his run to catch his breath, Bum Ryong catches up to him, and with a log of wood to Ki Joon’s neck and asks if he was the one that recorded the Red Socks video. Ki Joon, unrepentant blames Bum Ryong for everything that happened because according to him, if Ki Joon hadn’t taken his camcorder that day, then he wouldn’t have called the police and Bum Ryong wouldn’t have had to beat up the reporter, thus ending up in jail and Baek Hee’s life wouldn’t have been ruined. As Bum Ryong asks what all of us are wondering, how the hell did Ki Joon end up with Baek Hee, Ki Joon gives a smarmy grin, saying that he refused to remain a stalker forever and says that Bum Ryong should be grateful that he took Baek Hee off his hands because it hasn’t been easy living with her and Ok Hee is turning out to be her mother’s daughter. The words push Bum Ryong into a blind rage and he starts to strangle Ki Joon, telling him that he doesn’t regret beating up the reporter and now that he has nothing else to lose, he will be sure to come and kill Ki Joon just as soon as his mother’s funeral is over and with that, he lets him go.
5. Ki Joon sells Baek Hee’s house
Well aware that Bum Ryong is coming for him after his mother’s funeral rites are over, the waste of space that is Ki Joon packs his luggage and lies to Baek Hee that he’s going on a seminal. When Baek Hee says she will give him a divorce, he insists on not signing any divorce papers sent to him because he doesn’t want her reunited with her first love (why I out to smack his head. Someone, smack his head). He’s already left when Jang Mi and Doo Shik come running in informing Baek Hee that the word around town is that she’s sold her house. This sends Baek Hee running, searching for her signet ring (seriously Baek Hee? With a gambler for a husband, it didn’t occur to you to keep your signet ring at, I don’t know… maybe a fucking bank?), but it is not in the house. Ki Joon has taken it and he has indeed sold her house to a hotel developer and eloped with the money.
6. Yang Baek Hee rises like a phoenix from the ashes
After discovering her missing signet ring, Baek Hee runs into Ki Joon’s bedroom and finds… nothing. Not his clothes, his underwear, his books. The only thing left in the room is a note Ki Joon had written saying she would regret ever looking down on him. Seeing it has her dropping the meek So Hee persona she’s been cultivating as she comes out with a sledgehammer on her shoulders, Yang Baek Hee style (Whoohoo. You go Baek Hee. Beat the shit out of that jerkwad. Beat him good). Her first order of business is to give her famous death glare to the CCTV Ki Joon had had installed in her house through which he can see everything going on on his mobile phone and then she smashes it with her sledgehammer. The act gives Ki Joon shivers as he starts to quake on the ferry he’s on, asking the captain who is clearly not Bum Ryong when they would be leaving (wait, he’s still on the island? Baek Hee!!! Hurry. You can still catch that rat bastard!). The captain smiles back as he says they will leave when all the passengers have finished boarding. Back at home Doo Shik and Jang Mi are surprised to learn that Ki Joon is also the one that’s Boston Red Socks (Aha. Called it) and ask Baek Hee if she would like to call the cops. Baek Hee however is not interested in calling someone else to do her job for her and tells Doo Shik and Jang Mi that she intends to catch the bastard with her own hands (you go girl! Make him pay!). Next order of business is to call Jong Myung who is on the ferry at the moment with Ki Joon who is pissed that some Ahjummas are blocking his exit off the ferry with their produce that has spilled all over the entryway. The plan is to have Jong Myung stall Ki Joon and he sets out doing so by spilling the produce all over the floor again. Whilst Jong Myung works his magic, Baek Hee is sulking, insisting that she’s not getting on Bum Ryong’s speedboat. Except Bum Ryong just carries her and dumps her on the boat (Hahahaha) and soon their on their way to the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack (Hahahaha. I love this. I love this). When it’s finally time for the passengers to disembark, Ki Joon is in a hurry to get the hell out of dodge, except, it’s at that point in time that Baek Hee’s boat comes into view and he suddenly looks like he’s about to piss himself (Hahahaha). He makes to escape anyway, except Jong Myung catches him and drags him back into the boat. Baek Hee spots him from Bum Ryong’s boat and leaps, even whilst the boat is still inches from the ferry, so focused on Ki Joon that she makes the successful leap and gives him a kick in the head that knocks his stupid ass cold (a standing ovation for the awesomeness that’s Baek Hee).
7. Ki Joon doesn’t know when to shut his trap
By the time Ki Joon comes to, it’s to find the gang, all holding weapons of all sorts and Baek Hee, sitting right beside his suitcase that she flips open and we see is filled with a whole lot of cash (son of a bitch). Baek Hee looking hard at him asks him why he wouldn’t give her a divorce when he was planning to run away with all the cash anyway. Ki Joon’s answer is that although there might not be anything between them, he still wanted her to be his legally (Son of a Bitch). Next Baek Hee asks him why the Red Socks, and it turns out that it’s Ki Joon that has been sending her packages and leaving mean comments about her online (sorry for thinking it’s you Jang Mi. So you only left the fly comment huh?). Ki Joon’s reply? He’d told her he would make her regret looking down on him (Are you nuts? You have got to be shitting me), plus, what’s past is past and there’s nothing she can do about it. Instead, she should try and live like the sophisticated Soo He. Of course Bum Ryong is glaring daggers at the idiot at this point, but said idiot is totally unaware and keeps running his mouth. When Jong Myung tells Ki Joon that Baek Hee might not want to do anything to him, but it doesn’t mean her friends wouldn’t shoot him and then dump his body for the fishes, Bum Ryong interrupts to say that it’s Baek Hee’s problem and she should be allowed to handle it. Except, even he is shocked when instead Baek Hee tells Ki Joon that she would do exactly as he says: not get divorced from him and instead live as his dutiful wife. Ki Joon is still praising her ‘smart’ choice when Baek Hee tells him to return home with her, so they can use the money to take care of the family, after all, ever since she’d lost her job, she’s been washing dishes at a restaurant. Now, it’s Ki Joon’s turn to be relied upon as the head of the house. Ki Joon is pleased at the words, but Baek Hee continues that however, if he signs on the dotted lines and gives her the divorce, she would let him keep all the money as alimony. While her friends are exclaiming that Ki Joon is a psycho who doesn’t care about money, Ki Joon quickly signs the divorce papers. Whilst Baek Hee calls him a piece of trash, Ki Joon starts running his mouth, claiming that Bum Ryong is the one responsible for turning her into Red Socks girl, because if he hadn’t taken his camcorder that night, things wouldn’t have gotten out of hand. Turns out Baek Hee hadn’t known that he is also the one who made the Red Socks video (Ki Joon had assumed she knew when she’d called him Red Socks, but she meant the packages and comments, not the video) and she immediately starts to beat the crap out of him (Hahahahaha. Beat him Baek Hee. Beat him till his mother wouldn’t even recognize him. The piece of shit). After getting his ass whopped, Ki Joon continues to run his mouth at Bum Ryong who’s helping him carry his luggage, by threatening to have them all behind bars. Bum Ryong though tells him not to think they’re even. The beating he received was from Baek Hee. Bum Ryong still intends to beat him to death, as promised, once his mother’s funeral ends in two days (Hahahaha).
8. Baek Hee’s friends come through for her
Now that she’s a newly divorced woman, Baek Hee and her friends go out fishing to celebrate. When Jang Mi notices how depressed Baek Hee looks, she reminds her that she has a daughter and friends to keep her company, plus she’s young and beautiful and can always remarry (awwww). Doo Shik offers her a job cleaning the cowshed and offers to pay her more by the hour than the others he’s got doing the job (awwwww) and Jong Myung offers to give her a loan for a house (awwwwwwwww), and tells her to look for one she would like. Bum Ryong then butts in, asking why Jong Myung is the one getting her a house, to which Jong Myung asks if he shouldn’t give Baek Hee a loan then (hehehe), saying that he feels responsible because he was partly to blame for getting on that boat with Baek Hee. When it all threatens to dissolve into yet another fight, Bum Ryong asks Baek Hee to make it all clear, what happened on the boat with Jong Myung, 18 years ago (yes please, tell us Baek Hee. What happened?). Baek Hee starts the secret unravelling with Doo Shik, informing him that the bracelet, which denotes the leader of the Becky’s clique wasn’t on her, but was on Jang Mi, the second leader of Becky’s Clique and the woman Doo Shuk was with that night. And so, Doo Shik should pass the bracelet on to Ok Hee, the 18th leader of Becky’s Clique. Next is Jong Myung who she tells that she’d been trying to take his secret to the grave. After performing CPR on him, Jong Myung had coughed up water from his lungs, confessed that that was his first kiss (Hahahahaha) and then pooped on himself because of the fear (Rofl. You have got to be kidding me… That’s the secret? Hahahaha. Poor Jong Myung. There goes your tough guy act. Hahaha).
9. Bum Ryong is an idiot, but not for long
With everything now out in the open, Baek Hee breaks down in tears in front of Bum Ryong who comforts her for all the pain and scorn and ridicule she’s faced for the past 18 years in raising her daughter. Now that that bridge is somewhat mended, Bum Ryong focuses on mending his relationship with Ok Hee next. Except nothing he says cheers her up or bonds her to him, and just as she says that she doesn’t need a father (which has him hanging his head, poor Bum Ryong), she adds that her mother needs someone. When Bum Ryong doesn’t readily understand what she’s saying, Ok Hee clarifies that her mother is a woman and she deserves more than the life of a mother . She finishes that she will determine if she wants Bum Ryong as a father figure in her life by seeing how well he treats her mother. It is then that Bum Ryong drops the news that he got their house back. When Ok Hee asks how, he tells her that he sold himself for five years to a shipping vessel, to get a load of cash. And the idiot actually praises himself on doing a good job in taking care of Ok Hee and Baek Hee whilst, Ok Hee wonders at her mother’s terrible luck in men. When Ok Hee calls Baek Hee over and confronts Bum Ryong, the idiot who still doesn’t know what he’s done wrong tells her that he got the opening just in time, and would be able to make enough money to get Baek Hee’s house back as well as send Ok Hee to school. Ok Hee stomps off in anger (I feel you sister. I feel you. This one is a gigantic idiot), leaving Baek Hee and Bum Ryong alone. Baek Hee finally snaps at Bum Ryong letting him know that what his daughter wants after 18 years of his absence is not for him to disappear for another five year. When Bum Ryong still tries to say that Baek Hee has done an upgrade and Ok Hee is a smart girl whilst he doesn’t deserve to be in their lives, Baek Hee makes to leave. But, Bum Ryong grabs her hands in time and tells her that he’s never letting her go again, he will not let any other man have her, and he will not let her out of his sight, until the day he dies. He says all this and asks her if it’s alright with her and then he kisses her, like the man of action he is (You go Bum Ryong. When you move, you move). And the next morning, they act like a bunch of teenagers as they say goodbye to each other (cute), unaware that they’re being spied on by their nosy neighbors (hahaha).
10. The Ever-after
Jong Myung continues to police Ok Hee by preventing her from buying alcohol, sharing the ever useful information with the convenience store owner that she’s still in high school (hahaha). Doo Shik drank some punch and decided to have even more sexy times with his wife (hahahaha), meaning Bo Reum ends up getting another brother and Bum Ryong, Baek Hee and Ok Hee live happily together, with Bum Ryong and Baek Hee spending the time happy and in love; their second time romance being hotter and even more embarrassing to Ok Hee in front of whom they spend their days feeding each other and handing each other flowers. As Ok Hee watches her mother laugh and be happy, she concludes that truly the ever happy Baek Hee has returned.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
Because this man will not just stop with the whining and the being an absolute asshole. Because he’s disgusting. Because he’s slime. Because’s he is a waste of space and he getting his comeuppance still doesn’t make up for the fact that I want to slap then scratch off his annoying fucking face!
Headache inducing moment:
This is why I love last episodes. Other than everyone getting their storylines resolved, there are almost never any moments when I dig my fingers in my hair and cry or panic. None.
This episode’s a firecracker and it’s all Baek Hee. We see her return to her old self, all fight and passion and cute and girly and we love all these different parts that make her who she is. No wonder Bum Ryong’s still smitten after 18 years and her daughter wants to grow up like her. Who wouldn’t want to be such a firecracker?
