The truth will always be devastating, especially when you don’t see it coming. Hae Young discovers the truth, as does Tae Jin as does the other Hae Young. Do Kyung flails and his friends come to his rescue. Other Hae Young sinks to a whole new low and Do Kyung makes a decision that would have you scratching your head and wondering what the hell he’s thinking.
Top 10 Moments:
- Tae Jin doesn’t know just when to give up
Whilst Hae Young and Do Kyung are on their way back to Seoul, Tae Jin shows up at Hae Young’s parents house and is caught by her parents whilst trying to call her. When he mentions to them that she’s not picking up her phone, her mother asks why Hae Young should pick up. Tae Jin gets on his knees to apologize. The move though, does nothing for Hae Young’s mother who simply tells him to leave because she can’t accept him, but it does touch Hae Young’s father who gives him Hae Young’s new address (the Park siblings house). Why do I have the feeling that Tae Jin would be looking to move to the area next?
2. Hae Young and Do Kyung are still as cute as ever
After getting back home from the trip, Hae Young’s at first panicked at the thought of heading to work late, especially since she hadn’t given So Kyung any notice to that effect, but she can’t help herself from doing a running leap into Do Kyung’s arms (Gah! How can you two be so cute?), thus fulfilling his vision of when he saw her running down the stairs to leap into his arms.
3. Breakfast at the Park household
Whilst Hoon is moaning to the phone at Anna about what she’s done to take the wind out of his sails in enforcing himself and moving out of the house, Jin Sang spends the morning looking for his phone and his car and wailing about not knowing where everything is or who he was out drinking with the previous night. Hoon accidentally spills jam on Do Kyung at the breakfast table, and their morning begins with Do Kyung snapping at him, So Kyung refusing to butter his bread, and Hoon showing his siblings his new manicure, courtesy of his crazy girlfriend (Hahahaha). He explains that it’s because of his new manicure that he won’t be having a go at Do Kyung that morning and even though Do Kyung tells him to try anyway, Hoon is convinced that he won’t look cool (Lol. I think he’s also a bit aware that the man who slaps him around at work, can just as easily slap him around in the house). Jin Sang finally makes his appearance at the table and explains how his car was confiscated at the prison because he was trying to get a furloughed prisoner (who looks hot. We have to admit it) released. The news further pisses off Soo Kyung who calls him dirty and demands he leaves the house. Their conversation then dissolves to them talking in French as Do Kyung leaves and Hoon puts jam on his bread.
4. Tae Jin presses and finally gets Hae Young to agree to meet him
After not being able to locate her at her parents home, or being able to reach her via her cell, Tae Jin does the next logical thing: look for his ex-fiance at her place of work. However, Hae Young isn’t in the office yet. He’s on his way out when he runs into Hae Young’s coworkers, with other Hae Young in tow. Tae Jin doesn’t even give other Hae Young a second look (and how glad am I of that!) and just goes on his way. When other Hae Young asks her coworkers who Tae Jin is, she seems surprised that he’s Hae Young’s ex-fiance (Why? You didn’t think she could nab a man that hot? Pshaw!). Hae Young is on her way in when Tae Jin leaves. She spots him first and ducks for cover, but he still manages to see her and sends her a message just as she’s settling into her desk, asking if she wants him to beg some more, as he will do so if only it would get him her forgiveness. Seeing the text message has Hae Young making up her mind to tell him the truth and she texts Tae Jin that they need to meet. Shortly after she does that, Do Kyung calls, asking to hang out later that night. Hae Young explains that she’s meeting Tae Jin and would be a little late. Do Kyung immediately asks her to see him first (panicking that the truth would come out are we?) and when she tries to insist that it’s only fair for her to see Tae Jin first, he insists that he has something to tell her and she should meet with him first and that he would come to her office. She smiles, her mind going to a potential proposal and immediately tells him that he’d better not bring her flowers or do anything embarrassing like go down on one knee. Plus, he shouldn’t do anything embarrassing at the restaurant, nor should he put on a show in front of a lot of people (Hahaha. Hae Young, don’t ever change).
5. Everything comes spilling out
With his plans with Hae Young confirmed, Do Kyung heads to her office to see her, whilst telling himself that he won’t push her away anymore out of guilt (Ha. Getting ready to confess I see… Hope you remember those words should shit hit the fan), and he just wants to love her. He also hopes that she doesn’t abandon him, no matter what he tells her and that she should hold onto him tightly (why does this monologue have me feeling like things are about to go horribly wrong?). Hae Young calls Tae jin to cancel and when he’s understandably frustrated, she apologizes and promises that she would see him the very next day. Tae Jin agrees and we see from his side that he’d gotten her a bouquet of red roses (Wait a minute. For the very same woman who told Do Kyung that she doesn’t do the whole flowers and public display thing? Dude, you almost married her! How can you not know that?) and he’s holding a ring box (wait what? You were going to propose? You do realize that even if she hasn’t moved on yet, she wouldn’t be chomping at the bit to get hitched to you immediately right? I mean, even her mother hasn’t warmed up to you yet!). He sends Hae Young a message that he just wants to give her something and would see her outside her workplace (nononononoNo! This will not end well. I can see the train wreck coming from a mile away). Hae Young, excited at the prospect of seeing Do Kyung closes for the day and heads out with her phone to her ear, asking Do Kyung where he’s at. Tae Jin holding a bouquet of flowers smiles to see her. Do Kyung whose’s on the other side of the call sees Hae Young and smiles. Hae Jin waves at Hae Young who waves at Do Kyung. Tae Jin wondering who it is Hae Young is waving at looks in that direction, and out steps Do Kyung waving and smiling right back at Hae Jin. Tae Jin loses it, and heads straight to punch Do Kyung in the face, startling the passersby and Hae Young who can only watch the beatdown from across the road. Hae Young finally catches up to the men, wondering why Tae Jin is hitting Do Kyung and is commanding her to step away from him. She’s still of the mindset that Tae Jin’s hitting Do Kyung out of some misplaced belief that they’re engaged. Hurt, Tae Jin blurts out the truth: that Do Kyung was the one who ruined his business and had him go to jail. Hae Young, stunned, realizes the truth: Do Kyung ruined her wedding because he thought she was the other Hae Young. She walks away from both men, leaving Tae Jin to continue throwing punches at Do Kyung.
6. Hae Young confronts other Hae Young
After spending the rest of the day, lost in a haze, remembering all that went down, Hae Young narrows down on the one person responsible for her misfortune: other Hae Young. Ignoring the 15 missed calls from Do Kyung, Hae Young heads straight to the bar where other Hae Young is hanging out with their colleagues and attacks her, incoherent in her rage as the only words she can scream is “YOU!” with tears streaming down her face. Back at the office the next morning, everyone’s talking about the attack and when other Hae Young gets called in by Soo Kyung who asks why Hae Young would attack her for no reason at all, she accuses Soo Kyung of taking Hae Young’s side and gets back to her desk to send a message to Hae Young asking her to explain herself.
7. The friendship is strong within them
After the catastrophic truth revealing meeting, Do Kyung is understandable depressed and Jin Sang sighs with an “I knew this would happen” air. But, like a good friend, he doesn’t say anything and instead joins Do Kyung silently on his walk. On their way, they see Hoon whose questions of “Where are you going” is met with silence. Hoon joins them. They then run into the other employees whose greetings go unanswered. They too join them, and soon they’re six manly ducklings walking in a row (it’s cute because it’s cute, but sad because Do Kyung’s heart is breaking). When the other guys can’t walk anymore, they trail Do Kyung in a car as he continues his melancholic stroll and in the car, Jin Sang tries to explain the confusing situation to them, but they keep mixing up both Hae Youngs (hey! I said the friendship was strong within them. I never said they were smart!). Across town, Hee Ran is wailing that she was the cause of it all, as she’d been the one to tell Do Kyung about Hae Young getting married to Tae Jin and had even confirmed the high school Hae Young went to. She can do nothing now but break down in tears as she hugs her friend. Back with the little ducklings, in their bid to get Do Kyung to meet the woman he loves, they almost pick up the wrong Hae Young. Thankfully, Jin Sang is in the car with them to set them straight and they’re able to drive off without Hae Young seeing them. They finally decide to drag a reluctant Do Kyung with them to the beach for a day of fun and laughter in the sun. Do Kyung at first continues to wallow in his misery but his ducklings are able to sneak up on him and toss him into the ocean and soon enough, he too is playing in the water. When they’re out of the sea, Jin Sang tries to comfort Do Kyung the only way he knows how, by pointing out some pretty girls who have also come to the beach. Except, when the introduction is done, one of the girls ends up being yet another Oh Hae Young. Their expressions at the discovery and the way all the ducklings go back to following their depressed leader with their heads hanging low is just plain hilarious!
8. Hae Young suffers in silence, then snaps
Still trying to deal with her broken heart, Hae Young has a talk with her mother whilst eating uncooked noodles. She asks her mother if she remembers that there was another Oh Hae Young in her school. Her mother says yes. When she asks her mother to describe the other Hae Young, her mother just says the girl has big eyes (how much do I love that Mama Oh didn’t call other Hae Young pretty. Woman, you win best mother of the year as far as I’m concerned!) and asks what’s wrong. Hae Young instead reminisces about the fact that whilst she was in school, their house’s windows were always smashed by boys who liked the other Hae Young and were slighted by her, and yet she never received flowers or candy meant for the other Hae Young. She wonders if she’s destined to receive all the bad luck directed at the other Hae Young to which her mother snaps at her, wondering what is wrong. Hae Young though, says nothing. Instead, she heads out dressed in the most outrageous red fishnet stocking and wearing garish blue eyeshadow. She finally receives a text from Do Kyung saying: I’m sorry whilst at a cafe. She contemplates the message for a long while, then calls Do Kyung saying she was waiting to get more than a sorry. When she asks if he’s gone mad and how can that be the only thing he can say to her, Do Kyung asks where she’s at and then comes to join her at the cafe. He calls himself a coward and apologizes again, but Hae Young is not interested in an apology. She wants to know why he didn’t tell her the truth, that in trying to break up the other Hae Young’s wedding, he had broken up hers instead. Do Kyung explains that he didn’t want to because it would be like adding salt to her wounds. She’d been compared to the other Hae Young all through school and he didn’t want to cause her more pain. Hae Young snaps back that what’s worse for her is that in all his comforting her, in all her confessing her love for him, all he’s been doing has been to relieve the fact that he’d hurt Hae Young because he had loved the other Hae Young, and yet he hadn’t come clean to our Hae Young which he should have done the minute he knew she’d started to fall for him. When Do Kyung can do nothing but keep apologizing, even as he asks her what else she wants him to do, Hae Young tells him to get on his knees and beg. The words are a deal breaker and Do Kyung walks away and even though he keeps going back and forth, trying to work up the courage to go back to her and do just that, he carries on on his way whilst Hae Young wonders to herself why he’s never told her that he loves her especially when she’s sure he’s said those words to the other Hae Young.
9. The other parties find out the truth and other Hae Young sinks to a new low
Whilst other Hae Young is having dinner with CEO Jang who is informing her that now that he’s marrying Do Kyung’s mother, he would rather not see other Hae Young again (Seriously dude! You suck at being a step-father), Tae Jin comes to crash the party. Other Hae Young recognizes him, even though he doesn’t even glance in her direction (Good for you Tae Jin!) whilst CEO Jang thinks his face is familiar. Tae Jin explains that he’s the owner of the company from which CEO Jang pulled out his investment because of Do Kyung and then goes on to tell CEO Jang that Do Kyung pulled out his investment because he was after Tae Jin’s fiancee and even though he’d thought CEO Jang was a good investor, he is sure that it would hurt CEO Jang for the world to discover how easily swayed he is about making investments (now that I think about it, he and Do Kyung’s mother are both easily swayed. They’re perfect for each other). Other Hae Young upon hearing this drives to Do Kyung’s house where Jin Sang is telling Do Kyung that he should have just gone on his knees and begged her and told her how much he loved her (Jin Sang, you are one smart cookie aren’t you?). When he asks Do Kyung why he wouldn’t just let Hae Young in, other Hae Young shows up to yap about the fact that after she’d left, she’d been hoping to hear from Do Kyung or at least receive some hate mail and that when she didn’t she wondered if maybe he didn’t love her (wait a minute! I thought the reason why you left was because you were sure that what he felt for you was pity, not love. Girl, what the hell you going on about?). But now that she knows he ruined Tae Jin because he thought she was getting married to him, she thanks Do Kyung and saying that now she can breathe (what the?). When Do Kyung snaps at her, wondering how she could say such a thing when he ruined someone else’s life because of her, other Hae Young claims that she doesn’t care; she doesn’t care if he ruins 100 people or 1000, all it proves is that he loved her (Girl, you’ve gone cuckoo. Absolutely craaaazy. Just sayin’). She tells him she loves him and when she moves to touch him, Do Kyung pulls back and walks away. At about the same time, Tae Jin is remembering CEO Jang telling him about other Hae Young who was supposed to marry Do Kyung and our Hae Young saying that it wasn’t because of her. Everything sinks in for him as he realizes what happened and he goes crazy, half laughing and half crying at the injustice of it all.
10. Do Kyung decides to be a noble idiot
After leaving his house, Do Kyung is about to cross the road when he sees the rest of his dying vision, where he sees himself standing in the road (projecting Hae Young’s self-destructive tendencies are we? See, this is the reason why you shouldn’t break up with her, thereby causing yourself heartbreak, thus leading to you just standing in the road whilst there’s a car heading towards you. Do you see the connection here Do Kyung?) and getting hit by a car (although, it does seem like the car aimed for you though, so I might just let it go?). Do Kyung of course goes in to see his psychologist, to inform him of the new development and says that it’s only right for him to end it this way with Hae Young (which way? You mean leaving her with her pulverized heart when you know how hard it is for her to recover from a heartbreak? Especially now that she really loves you? What a dumbass), especially since he’s going to die anyway. Seriously? Dude! What happened to all the talk of going all the way? What happened to your talk of letting go of the guilt and letting yourself love her? What happened to allowing yourself to be held onto till the very end? Since when did you become a bloody amnesiac Do Kyung?!
Character I wanted to bitch slap:
As a Nigerian born and bred, we have a variety of slaps our parents dole out to instill in us some common sense. We call it our auto reset button, one of them is the very famous: Ifoti. That is exactly what this girl deserves right now, the auto reset slap that would get her to get her head out of her ass and stop saying idiotic things like this shit. I can’t even… Argh!
Headache inducing moment:
Because the minute Tae Jin sent in that message I knew… I knew there would be a fallout. I knew it was going to be bloody. I knew we would all never be the same again. And yet I still screamed at him to go back, screamed at Do Kyung to stay away and screamed for Hae Young not to find out the heartbreaking truth. Basically, I did a lot of screaming.
Drink up because this episode’s a Margarita. The tears would come and the sweet will fade away for the collective kick this episode dealt us all. The heartbreak continues in the next episode, so drink up.
