Everyone has a breaking point, and sometimes a careless word might just do the most damage. Dan Tae and Joon Soo continue to sink into their love triangle. Gong Shim remains oblivious and Gong Mi remains a liar. Joon Soo’s mother forgets her roots in attacking Gong Shim, and Gong Shim just wants to bloom.
Top 10 Moments:
- Dan Tae apologizes and puts the catty girls in their place
Dan Tae pulls a resisting Gong Shim to the corridor, where, after he’s certain they have their privacy, apologizes to her for thinking that she was at home instead of believing her when she said she had been at the office. (not a bad apology Dan Tae. If only you didn’t pull that wrist grab to talk to her. So, apologize for the wrist grab!) Gong Shim calls him out on his reaction and he admits to caring too much about her. When she tells him not to care, he asks her to make him care for her less. She refuses to be the idiot who simply does whatever he wants. Their conversation is interrupted by the other catty secretaries and the minute Dan Tae hears Gong Shim’s name, he pushes Goong Shim out of the room and is therefore alone when the girls continue their catty gossip about Gong Shim probably being the Executive Director’s love child, and her dating her coworkers. Dan Tae walks to the girls to not only tell them that they could be held accountable for slander but he also gets them to promise to apologize to Gong Shim. Gong Shim sees this all happen with a smile on her face.
2. Gong Mi meets Joon Soo’s mother
Lunch has Joon Soo calling his mother over to meet the woman’s she been dying to meet since the day she was told her son had been brought to the hospital by someone who upped and left after the rescue. Of course when his mother says that they should take Gong Mi to the office so Joon Soo’s father who also wants to meet her can do so. The lying girl feigns a ‘what office’, and then fakes a shocked expression when she’s told that their family owns ‘Star Group’ (technically, Grandma owns it. You all are just caretakers until the rightful heir comes back. But this is not about you anyway. Gong Mi, I hope the day when all your lies will be revealed comes very soon).
3. Dan Tae gets Gong Shim a gift
Dan Tae waits for Gong Shim to come back from work and is positively delighted to see her when he spots her. They share a moment when they just stare at each other, and then Dan Tae informs Gong Shim that he got her a gift that she would really love. Cue to Dan Tae emptying a paper bag filled with wigs for Gong Shim to see (I can’t even… 😆 ). They spend the time trying on wigs, whilst Dan Tae is pleased that he was able to save Gong Shim some money. They have a mini argument about which wig she should wear to work the very next day and even though Gong Shim shoots down Dan Tae’s choice of wig, Dan Tae is totally smitten when she wears that very same wig the next morning when he spots her heading to work.
4. Joon Soo’s mother thinks something’s up
She complains to Joon Soo about Gong Shim not carrying out her duties, i.e. reporting back to her on her husband’s activities, and is instead hanging around her son. When Joon Soo claims that there’s nothing going on between them, she produces a collection of pictures she’d had private investigators snap; pictures of Joon Soo and Gong Shim hanging out. She threatens to fire Gong Shim right away whilst Joon Soo pleads with her not to even think of doing so. He goes to the rooftop to think and invites Gong Shim over. When he tells Gong Shim what’s bothering him, she gives him advice as someone who’s been yelled at all her life: take things easy and ignore the other person’s calls. The one who does the yelling is the one who ends up suffering more. She then takes him to a costume shop and they while away the time dressed in period pieces and wandering around, even though Joon Soo looks totally uncomfortable with the get up. Lol. He does warm up to it eventually though.
5. Dan Tae sees his dad
Whilst his aunt’s out of the office, Dan Tae receives a call from a man who identifies himself as his father’s friend to inform him that the big tree in Yangpyeong is going to be uprooted. The news shocks his aunt who pretends that nothing is wrong. Except, when Dan Tae goes to see the tree with his father’s friend who tells him that his father bought the tree from him 25 years prior and had been taking care of it ever since, he spots his father who also came to see the tree. His father however spots him first and runs away so that by the time Dan Tae reaches the road, he’s long gone. Dan Tae refuses to believe that it’s his father since his dad is supposed to be in the Philippines. We know better though.
6. Gong Shim subconsciously chooses sides
Whilst Gong Shim and Joon Soo are having a blast at their unexpected date, Dan Tae returns home to find the entire house flooded. The cause of the problem: a broken faucet in his bathroom. He immediately calls Gong Shim as a tenant demanding that his landlord come help fix the problem, seeing that it wasn’t caused as a result of his negligence. Gong Shim at first rejects him and simply tells him to call a technician and instead follows Joon Soo into a cab taking them to a fancy restaurant Joon Soo wanted to take her too. But she can’t forget Dan Tae’s words and due to her feelings of responsibility (trust me girl, that isn’t duty but love that’s driving you) cancels on her plans with Joon Soo to go be with Dan Tae.
7. Joon Soo gets a lesson in rebellion
After spending all day, hanging with Gong Shim who took it upon herself to teach him the tricks she’s learnt in the art of rebelling against her parents, Joon Soo comes to Dan Tae’s house out of concern for his flooding situation, and barely has enough time to get a grip on how close Gong Shim and Dan Tae seem to be, before Gong Shim is telling Dan Tae all about the fact that Joon Soo has never rebelled against his parents. Dan Tae shocked, decides to give Joon Soo lessons on being rebellious. And the first lesson of the day is: Stay out overnight. Seeing that Dan Tae’s house is flooded, Dan Tae suggests they all go out camping. Joon Soo is thrilled at the idea and asks Gong Shim to come along. Except she bursts his bubble by saying she would have to get permission from her parents first (This coming from a girl who was all up in arms about rebellion? Hilarious!).
8. Joon Soo and Dan Tae have yet another pissing contest
Whilst at the camping site, Dan Tae prepares a lettuce wrap and feeds Gong Shim, to the jealous eyes of Joon Soo who takes note of the action. Except, Dan Tae forgot to wait for the meat to cool a bit, and Gong Shim spits out the scalding food. Joon Soo smirking, prepares a lettuce wrap for Gong Shim, but he remembers to cool the meat down a bit, so when he offers it to Gong Shim, she eats it gladly. The action has Dan Tae so jealous that he throws out a barb about Gong Shim choosing to come help him out with his house and laundry rather than joining Joon Soo for dinner. Joon Soo responds that rather than just teach him how to rebel against his parents, Gong Shim went the extra mile by taking him to Insa Dong, and they then walked around town, with them dressed in hanbok finery. And the best part? Gong Shim didn’t even hear a word of their argument as she was listening to music through her ear buds. Hahahaha. They make it to the rental service in time, only to discover through Gong Shim’s ID, which she’d handed over as a collateral to rent their tent, that the very next day was her birthday. Seeing that it was almost midnight, Joon Soo heads to the car, then gets to Gong Shim in time to hand her a stuffed bunny (he won from the crane machine they’d played at) as her birthday present. Dan Tae on the other hand hands her soil in a cup, in which he’d planted a seed that would sprout on her birthday (Gah! These two guys just slay me. Gong Shim you lucky girl you).
9. Grandmother and Dan Tae are found out as is Gong Shim
Just as the meeting between grandmother, Joon Soo’s father and shady director Dae Chul is rounding off, grandmother is informed that Dan Tae is waiting outside. Because he’s been curious about exactly what the two of them are talking about, Dae Chul switches on the recorder on his phone and slides it into the corner of the couch. Dan Tae doesn’t even notice as he’d dropped his bag over the phone. So it is that the phone is able to capture the conversation where Dan Tae not only shows grandmother a computer generated picture of what Joon Pyo could possibly look like, but it also picks up Dan Tae asking grandmother if she’d thought some more about the butterfly mystery. On the other side of the company, Joon Soo’s mother asks Gong Shim to bring in a file from the accounts department. The file however is a detailed list of Joon Soo’s spending and when she crosschecks where Gong Shim has been with the places detailed in the list, she puts it together that Gong Shim was with Joon Soo. Even though Gong Shim tries to explain that they weren’t alone together, Joon Soo’s mother demands her resignation. Gong Shim agrees, but before she leaves, she basically tells Joon Soo’s mother to get off her high horse and stop being arrogant because money and power is not all that there is. She also adds that the woman shouldn’t live like that anymore and walks out (Girl, you have balls and class. A standing ovation for the awesomeness that’s Gong Shim!)
10. Gong Shim wants to bloom
After confronting his mother about her firing Gong Shim, Joon Soo tries to reach out to Gong Shim, except she’d already turned off her phone when she was leaving the company. He’s about to go looking for her when he’s stopped by an employee who tells him that he’s needed for a meeting. He weighs the decision for a moment, and then calls Dan Tae to look for Gong Shim on his behalf (and that’s why you’re not getting the girl Joon Soo. Sorry). Dan Tae spends the time looking all over for Gong Shim but can’t find her anywhere. When he finally returns home, he finds her watering her plants. With tears in her eyes, she points to the soil in the cup and the absent sprout of the seed. When Dan Tae tells her that she just has to be patient, she focuses on the fact that the seed has to sprout before the plant can bloom (are you talking about the plant or yourself Gong Shim?) She breaks down in tears, saying that the seed is just like herself, that no matter how hard she tries, she just can’t bloom. Dan Tae pulls her into a hug as she cries onto his shoulder.
Character I wanted to bitch slap:
Because woman, if you won a popularity contest at a beauty pageant then it goes without saying that you were born without a silver spoon in your annoying mouth. Plus, your husband is an illegitimate child who stood no chance until one heir of the company died and the other was kidnapped. So who the fuck do you think you are looking down at Gong Shim like that. I should enter the show and slap you so hard, all your wealth and its trappings fly off. Annoying woman!
Headache inducing moment:
Seriously Dan Tae, look at where you’re bloody putting your bag! I screamed so hard at this scene because if he’d only looked at the couch, he would have seen the phone and noticed that it was recording. Now the shady director will know that grandmother is still looking for Joon Pyo. Urgh!
This episode’s a strawberry basil sorbet bellini. It’s sweet and summery, making you think of butterflies and roses at the way our two men kept looking at Gong Shim and bubbly with all those emotions coming together. Ah, sweet perfection!
