When a man cruises on a high for a long time, his fall can sometimes be tragic for him but satisfying for others. Lord Yoon falls out of the Queen Dowager’s favor and lands in prison. Ok Nyeo gets her name cleared and a new lease in life. Tae Won continues to plan his moves to put his merchant organization on the map, but a personal tragedy seems to be drawing closer.
Top 10 Moments:
- Ok Nyeo asks for a new leaf on life
After Lord Yoon and Jung Nan Jung leave the Queen Dowager’s rooms as per her orders, she asks Ok Nyeo why she’d initially claimed responsibility for Tae Soo’s death. When she hears that Ok Nyeo was told to say so in order to have her life spared, the Queen Dowager tells Ok Nyeo that she believes her, then asks her to say anything she wants and it would be done. Ok Nyeo tells her about Tae Soo’s last words to her, which was that she should retire from being a spy. She asks the Queen Dowager to help her leave her spying ways behind and return to Jeonokseo as a warden.
2. Treasurer Ji and Chun Doong get released
The head of the Palace Guard pays Ji Hun yet another visit, asking him this time around to release Treasurer Ji and Chun Doong. When Ji Hun tries to continue to hold them captive by claiming that they aided and abetted a criminal on the run, the head of the Palace Guard retorts that Ok Nyeo has been cleared on all criminal charges (yippee!) and so cannot be considered a criminal. Therefore, Treasurer Ji and Chun Doong cannot be said to have aided a prisoner and therefore, they should be released. Ji Hun’s disbelieving stare is met with a declaration that the Queen Dowager has granted Ok Nyeo full pardons, and so Ji Hun has no choice than to let the foster father and daughter duo be reunited.
3. Things return to normal
Or as normal as they can be anyway. When Ok Nyeo and Treasurer Ji get back to Jeonokseo, Treasurer Ji is worried about the reception they would get, him in particular as he’s been missing from work for days. He’s fully prepared for the Chief’s wrath, except the prison chief doesn’t say anything but warn him not to let that repeat itself again and ask Ok Nyeo to do just her work peacefully. Treasurer Ji is shocked by the uncharacteristic behavior but a flashback shows that the head of the Palace Guard had met with the Prison chief and delivered the Queen Dowager’s message that Ok Nyeo and Treasurer Ji must not be questioned about what they’ve been doing or where they’ve been. With the warnings that the head of the Palace Guard is fully aware that the prison chief was the one that tipped off Lord Yoon as to Ok Nyeo’s whereabout, the prison chief keeps mum. Although he’s thrilled that Ok Nyeo has some sort of connection with the Queen Dowager and wonders how best to milk that relationship. The others though are just thrilled to have her back and say so.
4. The Queen Dowager strikes at Lord Yoon
Morning brings with it resolute determination as the Queen Dowager calls for the head of the Palace Guard and sends him with a royal declaration to Lord Yoon, stripping him of all his titles and posts. The news greets Lord Yoon with shock as he’d expected his sister to be angry but not that livid. To make matters worse, the Queen Dowager has Lord Yoon arrested and no amount of bravado from Jung Nan Jung could keep Lord Yoon from being tied up and led away from the house like a common criminal. (Here’s hoping this is just a taste of exactly how you will get your comeuppance at the end Lord Yoon because I’m already laughing over here).
5. The Prison Chief makes Ok Nyeo an offer
Remembering her connections with the Queen Dowager and how intelligent and capable she is, the prison chief promotes Ok Nyeo to being his assistant. This nets her an office space in his office as well, where he explains to her that he has plans to be more than the chief of a prison. But to become more, he needs money and his assets are paltry as they are at the moment. He then gives Ok Nyeo full reign over his entire finances and Jeonokseo’s as well so she can build him wealth and in exchange, he would do anything she wants. Ok Nyeo meets with Woo Chi and Ji Ham to ask them for advice and theirs is simple: take advantage of the opportunity that has been provided. After all, it would be beneficial to the prison chief and the prisoners who would be better fed.
6. Lord Yoon is brought to Jeonokseo
Not content with just having her brother arrested, the Queen Dowager has him sent to the public prison: Jeonokseo, to complete his humiliation. The news meets the prison chief who is first panicked at the thought of Lord Yoon coming to offer him some more beatings, until Treasurer Ji completes the news that Lord Yoon is not there for a visit but has instead come as a prisoner. To make it even worse, the Queen Dowager gives detailed instructions as to how he is to be treated: he is not to get any preferential treatment and should be treated like a common criminal. Failure to carry out the instructions would result in severe punishment. He is also not allowed visitors or extra foods and snacks. The Queen Dowager however didn’t share this information with Lord Yoon who is utterly gobble smacked at the way the wardens treat him and speak to him (like a common criminal), at the fact that he has to share a cell with other criminals (like a common criminal), at the way the other prisoners bully him (like a common criminal), and at the way the other prisoners in his cell are able to eat lavish meal whilst he’s stuck eating plain rice (like a common criminal) Can you guess how much fun I’m having with the way Lord Yoon’s treated like a common criminal? Hahaha. And to make it even better, when he tells his cellmates that he’s Yoon Won Hyung, they beat him up for lying (Bwahaha. This just keeps getting better and better).
7. Tae Won takes advantage of the situation
With the knowledge that Lord Yoon really is at Jeonokseo, Tae Won pays a visit to the head of his merchant organization to inform him that truly Lord Yoon is with him in his cell (thank goodness he finds out after he’s beaten Lord Yoon. Hahaha) and that since Jung Nan Jung is the one responsible for putting him in prison, the head merchant can take advantage of the situation. His solution: that the head merchant do business with the Lee Myung Woo, one of the richest men around and another sworn enemy of Jung Nan Jung. When his boss expresses his belief that Jung Nan Jung wouldn’t just sit there and accept it, Tae Won says they would make the man an offer he can’t refuse. Those words, plus Tae Won’s conviction is enough to convince his boss to go along with the plan.
8. Ok Nyeo agrees to help the prison chief
After weighing her options and talking to her contacts, including Tae Won, Ok Nyeo comes back to the prison chief with a formulated plan to make him wealthy. To start off though, she asks him to release Lee Myung Woo. When the prison chief explains how his hands are tied, seeing that it’s Jung Nan Jung that had the man arraigned and she pulled all the strings too, Ok Nyeo tells him of a way to pull it off: allow the prisoner to roam free during the day, and have him back in the prison at night in time for roll call.
9. The plan is set in motion
Starting with the head merchant going back into the cell to bow at Lord Yoon’s feet and beg for forgiveness for not immediately recognizing him. The other merchants join him in begging for mercy and Lord Yoon preens at the perceived respect. On the other side of Jeonokseo, Lee Myung Woo is leaving the prison cells in daylight to return at night. When he expresses his gratitude to Ok Nyeo, she tells him that the person deserving of his thanks is Tae Won, who would come to him with a proposition. She tells him to consider the proposition carefully, and bids him on his way. True to her words, Tae Won invites Myung Woo over and presents to him his proposal for their merchant organization to have an exclusive deal with his store. When Myung Woo explains that he can’t do so because of the hooks Jung Nan Jung has sunk into him, Tae Won tells him the secret that Lord Yoon is in Jeonokseo and has been declawed, meaning this is the time to strike if he wants.
10. Ok Nyeo’s suspicious and tragedy strikes
Well aware that the Queen Dowager is pissed at the entire family, Jung Nan Jung speeds up the search for the palace maid so she can have her killed and present her as a gift to the Queen Dowager so as to regain her favor. She doesn’t forget the poisoning of Lord Yoon’s wife however and her assistant meets with the maid they’ve used to infiltrate Lord Yoon’s wife’s house. Except, Ok Nyeo sees the meet and when she ends up meeting with Tae Won, she can’t get rid of the bad feeling she has and they head to Lord Yoon’s wife’s house where they find her unconscious. A doctor is called, and although Ok Nyeo suspects that she’s been poisoned, the doctor not able to detect the faint traces of poison in her blood stream claims she merely fainted out of stress. Although Lord Yoon’s wife regains consciousness, she’s still weak, and Ok Nyeo heads to the kitchen to see if she can find the powder she found the last time she’d been there. But she’s caught by the spy maid who asks her to leave. Except, even at Jeonokseo, Ok Nyeo can get her mind off the fact that she saw the maid sprinkle some powder on the food she served Lord Yoon’s wife and she saw the very same maid meeting Jung Nan Jung’s assistant. Morning brings with it terrible news as during rounds, Myung Woo is found hanging from the ceiling. This calls for the police and Ji Hun and Ok Nyeo have a brief glaring session. After examining the body, Ji Hun concludes that Myung Woo killed himself. Except, Ok Nyeo shares her belief with the prison chief that Myung Woo didn’t commit suicide but was murdered instead.
Character I wanted to bitch slap:
Strangely enough, no one in this episode. Ji Hun should be thanking his stars that he wasn’t being his pompous self in this episode. Although I’m a bit partial to him since I suspect he is Tae Soo’s grandson.
Headache inducing moment:
None for this episode as well. Nobody’s being willfully stupid and although it’s sad, I’m well aware that Lord Yoon’s wife would most likely die soon. It’s a pain, but not a headache, at least not yet.
This episode’s a satisfying frozen raspberry Daiquiri. It’s delicious, delightful (especially if like me you enjoyed seeing Lord Yoon fall) and a treat in itself; a perfect way to give some balance in-between the intrigue, especially because come next episode, the intrigue continues.
