Once in a while, you get your victories while something even more tragic looms in the horizon. Ha Nuel shows he’s always merciful. We learn that Joon Suk had a good side, then crossed it when he took the step of no return. CEO Byun’s secrets are about to come tumbling out and Ha Nuel and Seok Ho are unaware of the tragedy they would soon learn about and have to deal with.
Top 10 Moments:
- It was all in his head
Hahaha. After Ha Nuel says the magic words (whilst smiling like a dork by the way), Geu Rin snaps him back to reality by asking him what he’s been thinking about. Turns out, the confession was all in his head. Just when he’s about to bring out the box and actually ask her to date him, Kyle calls out an injured Jae Hoon to Geu Rin, thus spoiling the moment. You just can’t seem to catch a break, can you Ha Nuel?
2. Seok Ho submits the evidence to the police and alerts Ha Nuel, Geu Rin and Jinu
After making the call, alerting Joon Suk to where he’s at (the police station) and what he’s about to do (submit the video evidence he got from Ji Young), Seok Ho plays the video for a police officer and asks him if he can reopen the assault case. The policeman says that if the video is confirmed as legit, of course it would be done. With that confirmation in mind, he meets with Ha Nuel and Geu Rin to give them the heads up. After that, he calls Jinu to deliver the news.
3. Yeon Seo tells the others how his meeting went
After Seok Ho gets back from his trip to the police station, he calls out Yeon Seo, waiting for the good news and is shocked on Yeon Seo’s behalf when he hears that Ga Eun only contacted Yeon Seo to tell him about her wedding. He is of course adorably defensive of Yeon Seo and is willing to cause a scene at said wedding. When the others come in and ask how the meeting went, Seok Ho breaks the news. They’re all outrageously hurt on his behalf and like Seok Ho, volunteer to ruin the wedding (how cute).
4. Joo Han’s arrested
Following the submission of the video evidence that proves that Joo Han was at the scene of the crime and a co-instigator, the police show up at his office to arrest him and seize everything in his office as evidence. Joo Han tries calling Joon Suk for help but the latter ignores him to focus on his lunch date instead. In the interrogation room, Joo Han tries to claim innocence of it all, until he’s shown Ji Young’s video where his face is clearly seen. When he’s asked if he plotted on his own or was given orders from the higher up to pull it off in order to keep Jackson from breaking their contract, Joo Han for some misplaced sense of loyalty does not come clean but just keeps insisting that he’s not behind the plot. When he asks that Joon Suk should be informed that he’s with the police, the investigator informs him that Joon Suk is already aware. The confirmation seals in Seok Ho’s words to him about how Joon Suk not looking out for him for much longer.
5. Ji Young gets what’s coming to her but Ha Nuel saves the day
After riding to the courthouse in her red sports car (seriously girl? You’re still riding that?), Ji Young is pelted with questions by the reporters outside, and then pelted with eggs by the irate fans who catch wind of her. Her father runs over to her to shield her from the assault and leads her inside (girl, that’s only a minuscule bit of what Ha Nuel went through. I don’t feel sorry for you). When Ha Nuel, Geu Rin and Seok Ho make it inside, her mother comes crawling, begging Ha Nuel for mercy (woman, don’t you even think about it. Remember all those times Geu Rin begged you and you were all righteously angry? Get out!). Seok Ho can barely keep Geu Rin from attacking the woman.
6. Ha Nuel’s just plain awesome!
At the court hearing, the defense lawyers plead the cases for their respective clients and Ha Nuel and Jinu are called to testify. Ha Nuel though pleads on Ji Young’s behalf that she not be punished for giving false testimony (Seriously Ha Nuel? Damn, you’re too nice for your own good). Trust Ji Young to be outraged at the kindness (girl, sit down. Ha Nuel just saved your ass). And then he rounds off his goodwill by asking that Joo Han not be punished either. Joo Han looks like he’s on the verge of tears, whilst Ha Neul looks back to smile at a proud Seok Ho. Although Seok Ho grumbles when they meet after the court hearing about why Ha Nuel had him do all that work, only to let the people responsible go. Ha Nuel just smiles and says Ji Nu didn’t want Joo Han punished either. Geu Rin though, isn’t in a forgiving move and spends their time at the office, chasing Ha Nuel around.
7. Seok Ho confronts Joon Suk
Riding on the fact that he not only got Ha Nuel’s name cleared, but Jinu also, Seok Ho meets with Joon Suk at the KTOP office. He tells Joon Suk that now that the boys have expressed their desires to let everything go, instead of paying back KTOP for all the trouble they were put through, Mango and KTOP should co-exist peacefully. It’s a term Joon Suk finds funny, especially because according to him, fair play is not something that occurs often in their industry. After Seok Ho leaves, Joon Suk laughs at the impossibility of them existing peacefully, especially when something even bigger exists between them (he’s probably referring to Ha Nuel’s brother’s case) whose truth would knock out Seok Ho.
8. Ddanddara gets their first CF
After eating ramyun with Jinu who’s planning on traveling abroad to study music, Seok Ho gets back to Mango Entertainment to find Man Shik, Min Joo and Geu Rin eating ramyun, with the good news that a ramyun brand has requested for Ddanddara to film a CF for them. The boys shoot the CF wearing cowboy costumes (hahaha) and keep eating so many bowls of ramyun that Kyle starts to barf. Geu Rin and Seok Ho cheer them up and when the man who’s preparing the noodles is rude to Geu Rin, Seok Ho puts the man in his place in one breath and calls Geu Rin pretty in another. Whilst at the CF, Seok Ho meets with the production director who invites Ddanddara to sing on a new show she’s creating, that would have bands singing old songs and giving it a new twist.
9. We learn of Sung Hyun’s past
After hearing an on air personality mention on radio that she likes old songs, citing a favored song by Choi Joon Ha (the name CEO Byun dropped as the person KTOP gave Sung Hyun’s song and song credits to), CEO Byun flashes back to the past when he first met Sung Hyun, through Seok Ho. CEO Byun’s thrilled to get Sung Hyun to drop his shy persona but seemed shocked when he realizes that Sung Hyun walks with a limp. His less than thrilled expression is not noticed by Seok Ho though, who meets CEO Byun to ask if he’d shown Sung Hyun’s music sheet to Joon Suk. CEO Byun confirms that he has and that Joon Suk was so impressed that he wants to see even more of Sung Hyun’s music so as to create an album. CEO Byun does mention that he didn’t let Joon Suk know ahead of time about Sung Hyun’s handicap because he didn’t want CEO Byun biased before hearing Sung Hyun’s voice. Seok Ho is okay with it as he thinks CEO Byun made the right call. Joon Suk however is not so thrilled when he learns that the musician whose work he loves had polio as a child and so walks with a limp. He does take Seok Ho’s words for it though that they might be able to get the audience to sympathize with Sung Hyun and has CEO Byun record a couple of songs. CEO Byun heads into the recording studio with Sung Hyun and is blown away by his voice and his music (and quite frankly, so am I. His voice… the song… everything is amazing!). Joon Suk is also impressed, till a rival agency’s president buys the rights of the song from him for a hefty sum. When Sung Hyun refuses the injustice of it all, Joon Suk calls him handicapped, not stupid (what the? Oh no you didn’t!) and that he should open his eyes. He won’t be accepted by the masses because of his handicap. Plus, no one would believe that the song was even his anyway. The words are so hurtful that Sung Hyun picks up his guitar case and heads to the bridge. He drops his case, looks at a picture of his family, one last time, and then leaps overboard to his death.
10. Ha Nuel would be singing his brother’s song
The production director pushes forward the album in which the song she wants Ddanddara to sing is in and sure enough, it’s the song stolen from Sung Hyun by Joon Suk. Seok Ho who was in Moscow when everything went down has no idea that it’s the song written and stolen from his best friend and is instead delighted that such a song, perfect for Ha Nuel, would be sung by him. This is going to end in tragedy, especially when Seok Ho realizes the parallelism between Sung Hyun (whose song was stolen by Joon Suk and given to Choi Joon Ha, thus causing Sung Hyun to commit suicide) and the songwriter whose song Seok Ho stole and handed over to Jinu, which had the man commit suicide.
Character I wanted to bitch slap:
Because that’s the most hurtful, hateful thing he could have said. I don’t care if he said the words and wished he could take them back almost immediately. He hurt Sung Hyun! Nobody has the right to hurt Sung Hyun. I hope he loses everything and ends up rotting in jail. Asshole!
Headache inducing moment:
The moment I saw him stop by the bridge and take out his wallet to look at the picture of his family, I knew. Heavens how I knew and how I screamed that he should not do what I was sure he was about to do. He didn’t listen though and how much that hurt. Damn!
This episode’s a glass of black cherry wine. It’s sweet and delicate and fragrant with all the victories our good guys experienced and the forgiveness Ha Nuel is so willing to give. But the death of Sung Hyun and the events leading to that leave a bitter aftertaste that we have to deal with for the next couple of episodes. Gosh, that scene was sad :(.
