Sometimes, destiny meets with fate to lead you to making the dumbest of choices. Jun almost has Ok, and then loses to him. Poong Yeon is still searching for his father, Hong Joo has finally found Yeon Hee and Yeon Hee and Jun meet five years later with him a wanted man and her a witch. Oh, and people are still literarily losing their hearts. Who said fairytales were pretty?
Top 10 Moments:
1. Heo Ok’s still stupid
After being known by fraudulent traders that he will cut them some slack as long as they make it worth his while, Ok gets approached by a trader who is illegally selling ginseng. Their meeting is witnessed by Soon Deuk, the girl who was at the betting hall when Jun tied up the gamblers for Ok to discover then. And to make it all the more worse, Ok doesn’t just allow the man to go scot-free, he also appends his fingerprint on the document that says just that. How can anyone be this stupid?
2. But he’s wising up
Of course the merchant that brought him the document to sign was hired by Jun. But just as the man was about to leave the city, as per Jun’s instruction, Ok shows up at his house. When Ok presses for the signed document, the merchant confesses that he doesn’t have it with him, but was instead hired to procure it. When Ok asks the man questions about his employer, the man replies that he doesn’t know, since the man went through hoops to keep his identity a secret. Except, Soon Deuk who tailed merchant, then Jun when he went to hide said document saw Jun’s face and shows up just in time to say so. Drats!
3. Yeon Hee has become even more powerful and Hong Joo’s really dying
Man Weol, a gisaeng whose face is scarred as a crush on Jun. Jun though sees her as a little sister and she’s always mocked by her other gisaeng for her scars. Determined to win his love, and believing that it’s because of her scars that Jun doesn’t love her back, she makes a wish at the 100 year tree, which is Yeon Hee’s source for earnest requests that can help her light her candles. Yeon Hee makes her an elixir that really did get rid of her scars. And thankfully, her earnestness was strong enough to light one of Yeon Hee’s candles at her mountain of candles. Lighting the candles however seems to be killing Hong Joo.
4. Poong Yeon visits the devil
After getting a secret message about where to find her, Poong Yeon heads out to go see Hong Joo who he asks whether or not she was there on the night the Taoist monks were killed and his father went missing. She straight up lies to his face that she wasn’t but claims she can find a way to lead him to his father if he allows her an audience with the king. Poong Yeon might have believed her first statement, but thankfully, he doesn’t believe the second and tells Hong Joo that her seeing the king is an impossibility. It’s a moment worth clapping for, except by actually visiting Hong Joo, just to hear her crap, he opens himself to the spell she places on him to make him find Yeon Hui.
5. Heo Ok’s still an ass
With Man Weol’s face now cured, she sends a letter to Jun inviting him to the mill where she intends to let her feelings known. But Ok confiscates the mail instead, even though he promised the messenger Man Weol sent that Jun would get it.
6. Soon Deuk leads Ok to the document… or not
The minute they get to the site, Ok immediately knows that it’s Jun who has confirmed his suspicions by burying the document beside his mother’s grave. The words give Soon Deuk pause although it doesn’t stop her from bringing out the box so she can get paid. Except, when the box is opened, the documents aren’t there. Jun has thankfully moved them.
7. Heo Ok’s arrested
Upon discovering that the box is empty, Ok turns to snap at Soon Deuk at the exact same time Jun shows up with the police officers who he’s handed over the document to and who now arrest Ok for accepting bribes.
8. Man Weol dies
Thinking that Jun got her message and is waiting for her at their agreed meeting point, Man Weol arrives at the mill to wait for him. She had no idea that Ok had confiscated the message before it could get to Jun and so instead of Jun, she’s met by the masked warrior who rips out her heart. Her death causes the candle her earnestness lit to go off. Which would explain why Yeon Hee hasn’t been able to keep a candle lit for a while. Hong Joo is using black magic to find those she’s helping and killing them to prolong her own lifespan.
9.Ok’s released and Jun’s accused of being the red gentleman’s robe
After begging his mother to help save him, Ok is released from prison and Jun is instead charged with giving false accusation and pretending to be a noble. To make it all worse, Ok, using the letter to Jun from Man Weol, which he had confiscated, points out Jun as being the last person to have seen her alive and therefore, her killer and the red gentleman’s robe.
10. Yeon Hee saves Jun
Upon hearing Ok’s words, Jun, well aware of the fact that should they get a hold of him, he would be automatically sentenced to death escapes. Unfortunately, he doesn’t escape the notice of Poong Yeon who chases after him to bring him in. Poong Yeon however falls ill mid chase, thanks to the reactivation of the curse and Jun distracted, runs into a tree and tumbles off a cliff, only to be stopped in mid air by Yeon Hee. Meanwhile, the crown prince’s spirit which Hong Joo has in a jar, alerts her to his sister having made her appearance
Character I wanted to Bitch slap:
Girl, if you don’t know the past history of these two boys, what the hell do you think you’re doing, poking your nose into matters that don’t concern you.
Headache inducing moment:
Because Yeon Hee, even after the number of deaths that occurred and the pain everyone, herself inclusive, suffered from crossing a boundary once, hasn’t learnt her lesson that boundaries with talisman should remain uncrossed for a reason. Next episode, shall be bloody.
This episode’s a classic bloody mary. It’s bloody, it’s intriguing, it goes down in a smooth glide and kicks you in the teeth, just the way you like it. An hour of utter and complete perfection.
