People are always more than they seem, if you just take your time to look beneath the surface. We learn more about Choong Nam, Young Won and even Wan herself. Hee Ja and Jung Ah breathe a sigh of relief, an old love is here to shake things up and Yeon Ha’s history with Wan is a tearjerker.
Top 10 Moments:
1. Hee Ja and Jung Ah didn’t kill anybody
Hee Ja and Jung Ah head to the police station to turn themselves in, but thankfully were exonerated due to a security camera that captured the scene of the accident. Turns out it was another car that hit the old man who was on the news for having been hit by a car in a hit and run accident. What Hee Ja and Jung Ah had hit, was an old deer.
2. Choong Nam is practically raising her extended family
From the sister-in-law in the north with the living expenses, to the older sister who wants knee replacement surgery, to the nephews she’s putting through school, Choong Nam is spending all her money taking care of her relatives. Factor in the junk she bought as paintings and potteries from the artists she likes to hang around with; artists who drink heavily and leave her with the exorbitant bill to pay, and it’s no wonder that her two employees grumble on her behalf about where all her money is going to and how she’s sold all her buildings save for her cafe to take care of everybody but herself.
3. Seok Gyun is still employed and obsessed with Hee Ja’s sex life
Turns out the apartment security didn’t fire him. Instead, they fired the guard who had warned him to be careful because the women had plans to fire the older guards first. Of course Seok Gyun peppers the conversation with his obsession with whether or not Hee Ja and Sung Jae had sex whilst they were dating. And he doesn’t forget to rub it in that he’s not taking Jung Ah on that trip.
4. Hee Ja lets the truth out
Turns out she’s known who Sung Jae was all along. She was just acting that way because Sung Jae was dead to her, ever since he didn’t keep his promise to see her before her family moved. But it turned out that Sung Jae had wanted to keep his promise, except his mother had had a stroke so he’d sent Jung Cheol who instead hit on her and ended up marrying her.
5. Young Won is dying
Turns out the reason she’s been seeing Nan Hee’s late husband’s mistress is because she’s been ill. Initially she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, then breast cancer, then ovarian cancer and now, it’s truly the end for her.
6. Choong Nam has a crush on Sung Jae
From going with him to shop for the items they needed to make lunch for Sung Jae’s guests, to the butterflies she felt on their car ride, to the way she kept attending to him at lunch and the happy smile she gave after he sent a text saying they should see each other soon, Choong Nam is definitely falling in love, and all her friends, from Young Won, to Nan Hee, to Jung Ah and even Hee Ja can see it too.
7. Jung Cheol cheated on Hee Ja
Turns out that the reason why Jung Cheol was in the closet when he was discovered dead was because he had cheated on Hee Ja and asked her to lock him in the closet for penance for what he’d done. Unfortunately, sleeping in the airless space had suffocated him. The answer is reason enough for Gi Ja who had been going around accusing Hee Ja of causing her husband’s death to start cursing cheating men.
8. Nan Hee and Young Won make up
After hearing Young Won’s reason for contacting Sook Hee and feeling terrible that she reacted by telling Young Won there and then that her illness was a punishment for her dating a married man, Nan Hee admits to herself that the reason she’s so angry is because Young Won went through her pain alone. And so, she extends an olive branch at Sung Jae’s lunch invite and Young Won gratefully accepts.
9. Yeon Ha’s accident
After dating Wan for years without wanting to get married, Yeon Ha decides that he wants to propose and hurries Wan along to meet him at a fabled cathedral that guarantees that lovers who got engaged there would stay together forever. He was rushing to go meet her when he steps into the road without looking and gets run over by a truck right before the very eyes of a devastated Wan.
10. Dong Jin kisses Wan
After Yeon Ha’s call, Wan distraught, calls Dong Jin and when seeing even him brings back all her memories of her time with Yeon Ha, she begs him to help her forget. Dong Jin takes her face in his hands and kisses her; an act that Choong Nam and Young Won see.
Character I wanted to bitch slap:
Knowing how much Seok Gyun is stringing Jung Ah along, I really wanted to slap him. The woman’s working her fingers to the bone and all he’s doing is being miserly, rude and insulting. Jung Ah deserves so much better.
Headache inducing moment:
Because something told me from Wan’s expression as she saw the road in Yeon Ha’s video message that this was where everything went wrong. I held my breath praying and hoping that it wouldn’t happen even though I knew that yes, this was the moment just before impact, before both their lives were shattered and things stopped being the same. Damn, even typing this hurt.
This episode’s a glass of red wine. Classy, relaxing, satisfying and matured, thanks to the amazing performances by each and every actor, from the sweet, to the sourpuss to the tart. It’s enriched by it all.
